The driver arrived at the Sherman Oaks hills estate to pick up the beloved Los Angeles news anchor (now deceased) who was a local favorite for decades. He and his family were traveling to Hawaii. The newsman answered the door, reeking of alcohol.
The newsman’s wife, decades younger, and his preteen daughter were busy getting ready. The newsman asked the driver to help him find their cat in the backyard, explaining that coyotes were stalking the area. The newsman, his young daughter and the driver searched for the cat, and the daughter finally caught it. The newsman declared that the cat needed punishment, and ceremoniously swatted it with a rolled up newspaper. The cat leaped from the daughter’s arms and it took them several minutes to catch the feline again.
Once on the 405, the newsman remembered he had left a coupon behind that would save them $50 on something and ordered the driver to turn the car around. A fight between the newsman and his wife ensued and the wife prevailed. They continued on to LAX.
