Your Turn

From a reader.

With sporting events being cancelled and postponed, what sports themed movie or tv show would you recommend to help fill the void?

  15. Ice Castles

Its this crazy 1970s movie about an olympic ice skater who goes blind but then learns how to skate while blind to try to make it back to the olympics while telling everyone her blindness is cured.

It's the silliest movie I have ever seen, and parodied in that Will Ferrell Blades of Glory movie which is also a good suggestion along with Talledega nights

  16. Something for Joey, the greatest sports movie ever made. TV movie, in fact. true story. check it out.

  17. The Blind Side; you may cry tho. Also Moneyball with Brad Pit. Eddie the Eagle..true story and played brilliantly by gorgeous Taron Egerton. Cheer is a netflix docu about the best cheer team in US..strangely addictive. Also Last Chance U ..another documentary series about college football. But 100% The Blind Side x

  19. Yep, 30 for 30 is a great documentary series on ESPN. Nothing wrong with watching re-runs of old game son the ESPN classic channel either. At least now is a good time to start binge watching a series or watch a dvd that's been sitting around awhile. I'm at the end of a book, but not sure if my library will stay open much longer. Now that my gym is closed i'm going to try and watch Breaking Bad or Mad Men that i've had sitting on my Netflix list for years!

  26. @MDS dude, just ignore the morons. in their world, Oswald was the lone gunman, Sirhan killed RFK despite firing more bullets than his gun held, a Mcvey killed women and children bc he became disillusioned with special forces etc, and two 100 ft skyscrapers disintegrated bc of 19 skinny ass towel heads with box cutters. I have family members who also take refuge in the words "conspiracy theory", just as the mind controllers intended when they intro'ed it into the lexicon. they will be convinced soon enough. God wins brother...

  31. The idea that Baseball season may be a LONG way off makes both myself and my husband very sad... so here's our lists:

    Truly fun baseball movies:
    Major League
    Bull Durham
Take me Out to the Ball Game
The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings

Those with a more serious tone:
    The Natural
    8 Men Out
    The Babe
    Cobb

Baseball films for those who feel they need a good cry:
    The Pride of the Yankees
    Field of Dreams
    A League of Their Own

    Little league movies:
    The Sandlot
The Bad News Bears (the original ones - including both "in Breaking Training" and "Goes to Japan")

    As for TV:

WATCH BROCKMIRE!!! The first 3 seasons are on Hulu and the last season starts THIS WEEK on IFC. It's hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  32. TV show:
Blue Mountain State, absolutely hilarious. People also seem to like the Varsity Blues tv show but I haven't had a chance to watch it.

    Movies:
Dodgeball, Caddyshack, Major League, Field of Dreams

But seriously if you're hankering for sports just play one of the dozens of sports video games. As many hours of sports action as you want.

  33. Folks who didn't believe the virus was a real threat were just getting bad information, they trusted the wrong sources. Happens to everyone at some point. Even the mainstream media was days if not weeks behind what was being reported online by foreign physicians and regular citizens with video.
At this point though, believe whatever you like, but follow the guidelines to avoid transmission.

  34. Gauloise--That film, is Ice Castles. I LOVED that film in the 80's 90's.

Definitel: Pride of the Yankees. Heaven can wait field of dreams..

  36. So this is all the big plan of God to get rid of only the evil liberals and pedoos??
I've got some bad news for you, my Christian brethren. This will kill the conservatives too. Don't confuse the rapture for coronarvirus.
Your savior trump will happily allow you to die if it means he lies to you in order for his numbers to stay up.

  40. Now that a couple of people have mentioned figure skating...I, Tonya was really great, and the 90s romcom The Cutting Edge with DB Sweeney and Moira Kelly was lighthearted fun.

Weepers that I'm still not sure I've recovered from-- Brian's Song and The Champ (Jon Voight/Ricky Schroeder)

  41. I think the studios see the writing on the wall & like Disney w/star wars & frozen 2 and today w/Universal’s move to release all their current theatrical releases on VoD for $19.99 which is basically the same cost of a movie ticket & small popcorn so I guess if that happens it will help.

  42. The Bad News Bears. The original. Also Semi-Tough and the Longest Yard (original, or course).

  43. The Boxer with Daniel Day-Lewis is excellent

  46. I never watched sports even before and personally I'm GLAD there's a break from it and I don't have my regular TV shows pre-empted because of that crap all the time or have it always hijacking the nightly news.

  47. Warrior. I hate sports films (even though I'm a sports fan) but you can't go wrong with Tom Hardy topless.
