This hospital in a very lower income area of this very large foreign city has received much needed equipment and supplies (including expensive machines) for the treatment of this disease. This came courtesy of the members of this band native to this city and beloved in their home country who also once had an event named after them. This band did also have at least one big hit in America but that was a number of decades ago. The band has broken up then gotten back together and are basically considered an institution in their home country. Two of the members had close family that had this disease and they have done many charity events over the years to help the fight against it.
Stereophonic/Wales?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Tomorrow the hit..
Such a fabulous album. I listened to it so much that I scratched the CD, and I think now it is hard to find, unless I am wrong.
DeleteDuran Duran Birmingham?
ReplyDeletewho knows
ReplyDeleteMaybe Midnight Oil/Australia. Whoever it is kudos.
ReplyDeleteThe guys in Stereophonics are super nice(especially Kelly ), but they were just criticized for doing a gig in Cardiff.
Or The Alarm? They're still going, singer had left at one point, and were supposed to do a charity event a few days ago.
ReplyDeleteAlarm
ReplyDeleteA great guess. (Great band) I think they had multiple hits in the 80s but are most definitely a a Welsh treasure. I feel it is Wales somehow. Hit really hard
Proclaimers/Scotland-In 500 miles? Too many possibilities
ReplyDeleteMidnight Oil
ReplyDeleteSimple Minds/Glasgow
ReplyDeleteA-Ha, Oslo.
ReplyDeleteFor "this disease" i don't think COVID-19 is meant. Note that they've done charity efforts "over the years" to combat it.
ReplyDeleteThis one is a little out little out of left field.. how about the Boomtown Rats? They have just got back together and released a new album.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I keep thinking of salford and Manchester scene
ReplyDeleteStone Roses?
ReplyDeleteSalford would be New Order. Dexy's Midnight Runners are Birmingham. The Proclaimers were twin brothers from Auchtermuchty. None really a very large city, and Auchtermuchty is just a wide spot in the road. The Cure is from outside London, so....maybe?
ReplyDeleteOr Ochyershuchty...as we know it.
DeleteSalford is Manchester and that is a a very large city.
Deletemanchester and salford are two separate cities in the county of greater manchester (kind of like how new york is a city in new york)
DeleteCan people stop saying midnight oil. Peter Garrett was previously elected into our federal government and was a total waste of skin.
ReplyDeleteCrowded House
ReplyDeleteGolden Earring/Netherlands
ReplyDeleteMadness (Our House) is a possibility. From Camden in north London. Madstock was an event that happened at least once. Can't find any information about diseases, family members dying or charity events however.
ReplyDeleteFound it. The sister of lead singer Suggs' wife died of Pancreatic cancer. I'm going with Madness.
ReplyDeleteSuggs is famous as a host right Neil? Saw them in the 80s and it was fun.
DeleteThe Beatles
ReplyDeleteLiverpool
Artificial legs
Woodworm

@neil Madness is a great guess. Huge in UK but really only the one hit in the USA
ReplyDeleteWow, great work everyone, CDAN at its best right there.
ReplyDeleteAuntie....I didn't know that.
ReplyDeletesounds like madness to me. One hit wonders I believe in the US but part of the furniture here in the UK.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the Madness guess.
