I was brainwashed as a teenager with N Sync lyrics. My sister LOVED Justin Timberlake and stayed up all night blasting their music all night with poor me in the room next door. I memorized everyone of their lyrics in my sleep :/
Neither, except one of the bstreet boys was two doors down from me in a building in Santa Monica in 2011-12. the one with the tall one with the mustache
Oh, I had a niece who LOVED the Backstreet Boys to DEATH. She hated Justin from Day 1 lol. I should ask her if she feels vindicated or not. I'll admit to having a soft spot for "I Want You Back" though!
But on 2000 Ky Derby Eve, I was working at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. I was working at the Top E Drag Racer. I was just minding my own business and at 6:30 suddenly 100s of teenage girls mob the racer. All screaming cause two of the backstreet boys were there. Riding the racer about 40 times, tons of false starts and blown engines. They leave at 8pm to go to a Derby Party.
About a hour later, these two teenagers come up to my ticket booth. One asks "Is Howie here?"
I replied "whose Howie?"
"He's a BACKSTREET BOY!"
"What's a 'backstreet boy'?"
She shot me a scowl and walked away. I felt good ruining her night.
Neither. It was all Britpop for me with Pulp. You have to admire a band whose frontman decides to impress a girl by doing a ridiculous stunt through an window and breaks a leg. Jarvis Cocker also jumped on stage in protest and mooned Michael Jackson at the Brits mid nineties. MJ was dressed as the messiah in front of images of starving children while others were kissing his feet etc which was rather weird and very disturbing.
Not going to front, lol, I liked both. N'Sync more.
Story: I thought I was smart to make a buck. I bought $1K worth of N'Sync tix. Great seats. Ended up selling them at cost (2) and the rest I ate. Ended up saying F it slo I saw them at SAC then San Jose, then flew to Vegas. Went with a friend and we had fun, but...don't talk to me about N'Sync again. :)
The Temptations. The Four Tops. Now THOSE were boy bands. Man Bands. They had sublime voices, moves, style and sex appeal. The latter day boy bands didn't/don't get by on much.
Kids, don't shit-talk about The Beatles. It makes you sound stupid.
Backstreet's back alright
ReplyDeleteThe Beatles. Tavistock was producing better bands back then.
