@Brayson I am exactly the same age as the friends crowd - and was a young adult at the exact same time...could not even watch the show because of the fantasy about how a bunch of no-real job genXers can live in a supercool building in NYC with no real financial trouble. Pissed me off so I didn't watch it until syndication.
The apartment was rent contrlled because it actually belonged to Phoebe's grandmother. They adressed this issue in like episode 1 or 2. I just came across the episode like last week while flipping through channels.
Joey for sure. Joey shares food: "...and now back to my bucket. I'm only eating the skin, so the chicken's up for grabs". OR when he comes upon Chandler and Rachel eating cheesecake off the floor... he pauses, looks, and pulls a fork out of his pocket to join in.
@Guesser, I see some sort of Requiem for a Dream style flashback where you realize they had horrific lives but they thought they lived in a happy sitcom because they were high all the time. Central Perk is probably where they picked up johns, just sitting around all day waiting for the next trick. ;)
Such a thought provoking question, may take me weeks to come up with an answer. But here's a question for you, why were half the posts removed from yesterdays "your turn"??
Love Janice. I actually thought she was really well suited for Chandler. Fun Bobby was great until he stopped drinking.
Also loved Ugly Naked guy, Mr Heckles, Hank Azaria as David the scientist guy, Jon Favreau as Pete the rich guy, Estelle and Frank Buffet junior's wife, the older teacher! Those were great characters.
And a special shout out to Jon Lovitz as the stoner restaurant owner who re-apeared years later after his restaurant had gone bust.
I absolutely hated Elle McPhearson, shit actress, pointless casting.
I never watched much, maybe Joey, he seemed the most endearing.
ReplyDeleteNone lol. Had to pick-Chandler.

ReplyDeleteChandler Bing! I love them all, but I loved his character the most.
ReplyDeleteNone
ReplyDeleteThe Apartment.
ReplyDeleteChandler at the time, cringe worthy now, humour changes over time I guess. I always hated Ross, so whiney.
ReplyDelete+1 SeijnSei, The myth of affordable housing for young people.

ReplyDeletemonica.
ReplyDelete@Melit, That's the truth, they all would have had to be escorts and rentboys to afford that sh!t 😅
ReplyDeleteHelena Handbasket
ReplyDeleteChandler and Phoebe
ReplyDeleteChandler, although I loved Ross as Strange Turtle Man 😉
ReplyDeleteApartment was rent-controlled & Monica’s grandmother used to live there. That’s how they could afford to live there. Rent was very inexpensive.
ReplyDeleteJoey for sure. Joey shares food: "...and now back to my bucket. I'm only eating the skin, so the chicken's up for grabs". OR when he comes upon Chandler and Rachel eating cheesecake off the floor... he pauses, looks, and pulls a fork out of his pocket to join in.
ReplyDeleteRoss's monkey. Only episode I saw had an adorable monkey
ReplyDeleteRachel for the hot, Chandler for the sarcasm.
ReplyDeletePuddy.
ReplyDeleteNone never watched
ReplyDeleteChandler and Janice
ReplyDelete@Brayson87,maybe they can do a reunion show that addresses the real way they earned a living. Have them do flashbacks that turn into the real story.
ReplyDeleteOh and Chandler for favorite.
ReplyDeleteThe sofa at the coffee shop.

ReplyDeleteAfter all, "rent controlled" is often a euphemism for banging the landlord.
ReplyDeleteNever watched it. Not one single episode.
ReplyDeleteBing-Bing-Bing!!
ReplyDeleteJ/K I never watched.
1st Chandler Bing
ReplyDelete2nd Monica Geller (I relate to her neuroticism)
I can’t believe nobody said Aniston’s nipples. Phoebe for me.
ReplyDeleteNone of them, it was an inane show.
ReplyDeleteGunther the coffee shop guy
ReplyDeleteNot a regular watcher but Phoebe, the only really interesting character amongst them, the rest were all very whiney.
ReplyDeleteI caught part of an episode and one of them had a GORGEOUS statue of a Greyhound (I think in a bedroom)?
ReplyDeleteI vote for that statue.
Pat the Dog! Which actually belongs to Jennifer Anniston!

ReplyDeleteAgree with someone above. Chandler and Phoebe.
ReplyDeleteRachel and Joey
ReplyDeleteThe one with all the sarcasm, Chanandler Bong.
ReplyDeletedefinitely Chandler
ReplyDeletePhoebe. Lisa Kudrow's scene with Courtney Cox over cookies was the best.
ReplyDelete(Paraphrasing)
Phoebe - The recipe came from my grandmother’s friend, Nesslay Toulooose.
Monica - Nestlé Toll House?!!
Phoebe - Oh you Americans, you always butcher the French language...
Chandler and Ross my faves, followed by Monica & Phoebe
ReplyDeleteJoey was too stupid for my taste, Rachel too annoying
Friends got bad when they tried to force Rachel and Joey together, urgh. As if Elle McPhearson wasn't bad enough already.
I do like Ross, and I'm aware that many don't. But he seemed like a great brother, friend, dad and husband and
ReplyDeleteP - I - V - O - T is legendary.
Haven't seen it in 20+ years but back in the day as a child my favourite was (obviously?) Chandler. I liked Phoebe as a child too.
ReplyDeleteAs I get older, when I chance upon clips on YouTube I find Ross increasingly hilarious.
Janice and fun bobby
ReplyDeleteLove Janice. I actually thought she was really well suited for Chandler. Fun Bobby was great until he stopped drinking.

1: Jennifer Aniston's nipples.
ReplyDelete2: Tie between Joey/Phoebe. Chandler and Ross the two worst examples of "men" on TV. Whiny bitches.
