Today's Blind Items - At Length

It has always been pretty much a forgone conclusion that this at the time A- list singer had something to do with the death of her significant other. The significant other was definitely worth more dead than alive. Someone else also thought the death of the significant other would be convenient.

The significant other of course was an A list singer in an A list group. It is easy to pin the death on the A- list singer, but what about the mogul?  The catalog of the group has been making A LOT of money and the A list singer is even more famous now than when he was alive (in terms of legacy overall). There is a new buzz that perhaps the mogul and management decided to "suicide" him. After all, he was a well-known depressed junkie, the months before his death he was behaving erratically (escaping rehab, buying a shotgun and so on) and was just about to change the group's sound drastically (and there's no way for them to have known whether that would've taken a hit on the group's reputation or sales or not. The group was making a lot of money for the mogul and made a huge amount after the singer was dead with the first posthumous release. The private detective did prove multiple times that the facts around his death don't match up at all and that it would've been impossible for him to kill himself after the lethal dose of the heroin found in his system "he" did shoot up right before that gunshot.

They make it look like the A- list singer did it and she won't say anything because then she would die of an overdose. It almost feels now as if she is a pawn in the whole scenario.  After all, the constant redaction of the mythology of the dead A lister does nothing but bring more attention and speculation to his case, which makes people maintain interest in him and the band's catalog. His management and record label have always spun the narrative that suicide was inevitable. I've never heard anyone talk about this possibility and it's such a shame that the A- list singer gets all of the "credit" for his death. Don't get me wrong, the former A- lister is obviously a crazy narcissist, but there's no way for her to have conspired to kill him and hide it so perfectly, especially given the fact that she was also out of her mind on drugs at the time. She's just the easy scapegoat and no one even blinks an eye when it comes to the mogul and management.

    2. Please DO NOT feel sorry for that murderous, narcissist, psychopath known as Courtney Love. I interviewed Evan Dando when he opened for Hole. We were flabbergasted that she did nothing to hide the affair. Tongue down his throat, dressed him in her clothed-like Kurt. I've got the pics to prove it! Then she turned Evan out on drugs and his career went south. Months later Kurt's found dead. She allegedly hired a biker/punk musician hitman. Let's hope justice prevails one day.

  14. I have always thought this. Nirvana was almost certain to break up at this point. He was probably going to separate from Courtney, temporarily or permanently who knows. Geffen can be traced to a large body count of you look into it. I was wondering if Enty was going to have a Geffen blind,Bezos just bought his house for a record price. He's sold artwork at record prices. One of the yachts sold for more than it's worth. Money laundering for sure, but why was this never looked into? And Enty since the site began called Courtney a murderer. What did you do with the real Enty?

  15. Yeah generally people don't want to kill their golden goose. They usually drain them dry like the bloodsuckers they are.
It could be a huge mogul conspiracy, or more likely she just hired someone competent to do the job.

  16. Oh, no no no. Who's trying to float this new spin on the narrative?! Courtney testing the waters?

No remorse for Courtney. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that people above her were at least in on what went down. But she was more than a willing co-conspirator. Ask the people behind the scenes who saw how shit really was--people like her first spouse Falling James Moreland, or Kurt's high school friend (and musical idol) Buzz Osborne, or even Nirvana's Sonic Youth tour mate Kim Gordon. Courtney may not have pulled the trigger, but she was no sheep. She wanted power and fame and would climb over any body (ahem) to get it. No matter the price. Don't be fooled.

  25. What a bunch of crap...

You do know that David Geffen hasn't been in charge of Geffen Records for 25 years, don't you?

And between 1990 and 1995, he had already sold the label to MCA, and just had a contract to run the thing, without any longterm property over their releases. He had ZERO interest in boosting sales of a particular act in the coming decades.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Kurt complained about major label from minute he signed. Not a great fit, despite great success. He seemed a complex critter, with intelligence and an impishness to go along with the talent, depression and substance abuse. I'd like to think he'd have gotten things balanced out with more time. It's horrifying to think anyone has to live in fear of (or die by) circling vultures with dollar signs in their eyes. Whatever the truth is, I agree that it's not the official story. I hope we get the definitive truth.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hmmm, he said "fuck Nirvana" in that letter. I think that would have made Geffen's eyes pop out a little bit. I'm wondering if he blamed his bandmates for leaking the info about Courtney using while pregnant.

Now I'm curious as to which musical direction Kurt was going to go. Too bad we'll never know, however I do believe whether he was murdered or not, he probably would have gone down the road to suicide anyway.

    1. Courtney was the leak on Courtney using while pregnant. She ran her mouth about it during an interview with Lynn Hirschberg for Vanity Fair. It's why Kurt and Courtney went after Hirschberg so viscously-- hated her and blamed her for CPS getting involved with Frances. When it was Courtney's own dumb ass fault.

  29. ===As loose a cannon as Courtney is, however, I can't imagine her staying silent about this if she knew anything.

In addition to reasons above, I think the death of Kristen Pfaff was used to seal the deal. Love has exposure for being at the scene and Kurt's comment is immortalized re her jealousy.

It not only works as insurance policy she never balks, it sends a nice message about how utterly expendable she herself is.

If you dig very far into her background, you feel even more sorry for her but you understand far better why she is the way she is. (Her appearance in Montage of Heck made me want to retch ... the whole film put me in a rage leaving the Egyptian. )

Still, doesn't excuse her alacrity for living the life on a dead man's account when she's not stupid enough to but the suicide story either.

(Pretty much say the same thing about the grungeratti of Seattle. Once I saw the PJ doc at Cinerama and studied Cornell's face it seemed to me the death of Andrew was used to set the hook in those kids early on primarily by keeping him alive just long enough they all could be especially traumatized.)

The most interesting thing for me about Live was a series of tweets she made on the EVE of Newtown killings pointing to Ryan. They (and the site on which I'd saved them at the time) have long been destroyed.

Looks like she's certainly working the circuits where secrets of that nature would be bandied.

I am a big fan - but having been through bipolar drug addicted relationships...she was in just as bad of a shape as him. They were both strung out, mentally ill, drug addicts in a toxic relationship with a toxic lifestyle on overdrive.
You can't fairly blame her for "not helping" him. She couldn't help herself...and for every minute of bullshit she put him through - he put her through one as well. They were both horrible.

Personally - I don't think he killed himself - but she didn't do it either. Someone who wasn't fucking higher than high did it.

  46. Janis Joplin injected herself with a fatal dose of heroin. She then left her hotel room, walked to the front desk, asked the desk clerk for change, bought a pack of cigarettes, walked back to her room, collapsed on the floor and died. The idea that a person is instantly killed by an overdose is not true.

    ReplyDelete
  49. @Brayson87 they couldn't "drain him dry" because they didn't know whether they would've flopped due to the extreme sound change that Kurt wanted. Also, he was starting to perform poorly during plenty of concerts because his physical and mental health was at an all time low and his drug use did catch up to him. He even had to cancel one of his European tours because of him being "sick" but it was heroin withdrawal (even his manager Danny Goldberg mentioned this in his new book about Kurt). They knew that they couldn't count on him anymore and Nirvana was making as much money as Guns N' Roses at the time, so they couldn't risk it. The next best thing was killing him and creating this immortal legend slash cashcow and they obviously succeeded.

    ReplyDelete
  50. @Erin no one's saying that Courtney didn't play a part in it. She probably knew what was coming and/or acted like she didn't know because she knew it would've benefited her monetarily, assuming that she is indeed a psycho bitch that didn't care about Kurt. But she did not conspire to kill him, that's ridiculous. She was on heavy drugs at the time and a mess. Speaking of Buzz Osborne, he simply confirmed that Montage of Heck was "90% bullsh*t" and let me remind you that MoH was just another way to rehash the mythology of the nihilist, allegedly destined to kill himself tortured genius rockstar Kurt. He also said that Courtney was probably making stuff up and that "people want to believe Kurt was suicidal" but how is that really opposing the narrative suggested in here? If he was indeed killed - and he probably was, due to the inaccuracies surrounding his death scene and death overall that Tom Grant got into, Courtney will obviously maintain and confirm that faux "he was depressed and wanted to kill himself" narrative. At the end of the day, weren't you guys saying that she's a quote on quote sociopath? If so, she'll never want to risk her life, so she obviously will play dumb and refuse to speak up about it. That's probably also the reason why she's not suing Tom Grant and all the people that accuse her of being Kurt's murderer. She knows the higher ups benefit from that story and that if she tries to oppose it or shine light on the situation she'll "overdose" or "kill herself" too. Stop being biased and start using logic. Kim Gordon also simply stated multiple times that Courtney's a crazy mess and we all know it, so what? Follow the money.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I can't follow this ramble, Stan.

Courtney was no pawn. Tom Grant's work suggests she had at least some knowledge of what was going on, which legally would make her a co-conspirator. My use of the term remains accurate.

Buzz has had PLENTY to say about Kurt's death and about Courtney over the years--I'm not referring only to his comments about MOH.

      Delete
  51. @shakey he could've potentially killed himself or ODd later, but his death was NOT a suicide and we all know it. There are even more facts that don't add up if you closely look into his death certificate and the gunshot wound that's described there as opposed to the real gunshot wound that was found in his skull and Tom Grant hasn't even touched on this.

He said he wanted to go for a more R.E.M. sound in interviews and my bet is that he possibly was thinking about potentially releasing an acoustic album (see the MTV Unplugged album for reference). So basically wanted to get rid of the rough punk sound that made the Nirvana sound and grunge as a genre so iconic. I feel like they could've still succeeded and the Unplugged album's sales in 1994 (when it was released) prove this but the higher ups couldn't risk ruining their Number 1 cashcow /at the time/'s legacy.

    ReplyDelete
  52. @Buddytesla LOL... you realize that Janis was an active addict at the time and that her tolerance was really high, right? Kurt was also a heroin junkie but you're forgetting that the had escaped rehab a couple of days before he reportedly killed himself. He had gone through withdrawal already and hadn't been able to use for at least a couple of days/weeks. This means that even if he had been the person most addicted to heroin in the world, there's no way for him to not pass out/OD immediately after shooting up such a lethal dose at the time because his tolerance had to have gone drastically down after him being in rehab. That's the difference between his case and Janis'. I believe that it was even reported that it was THE FIRST TIME he had used heroin ever since he'd escaped rehab, so we know for sure that he didn't immediately start using by building up his dose (as well as his tolerance). Even if he had started building up his dose slowly /which doesn't seem to be the case/, it would've still been a lethal dose for him because technically speaking he did allegedly shoot up 3X the lethal dose for a non-drug addict (as in someone with low tolerance) and his tolerance at the time had severely gone down and his rehab stunt took place too close to his death /in terms of timeframe/. People should stop grasping at straws and start recognizing his death for what it is - a murder. And CL wasn't the one to orchestrate of it, regardless of how psychotic she is or might be.

    ReplyDelete
  53. @MeliticusBee i agree with you, i'm also bipolar and have gone through addiction. Anyone who's been in our shoes is able to recognize the BS around his death and the fake conspiracies as well. Evidence suggests that he was killed but it wasn't CL and i don't even like her at all. People seem to forget how disgusting and inhumane the music business is. He was an unfortunate cashcow and "they" have been successfully able to profit off of his death A LOT. We're talking about billions of $ in here.

    ReplyDelete
  54. @Angela since you know so well how involved Geffen was or wasn't with Nirvana, why don't you read Danny Goldberg's (Nirvana manager) new book about Kurt? He described on multiple occasions how Geffen himself PERSONALLY got involved with the band. Even once loaned them 2 MILLION $ out of his own pocket because they would've gotten 2mil. in advance thanks to a merchandise contract but D.G. didn't like the people running said merchandise company and really wanted Nirvana to compromise and choose another contract with another company (they would've still gotten around the same sum of money, but later and not in advance) so he gave them the money and when they made the amount of money months/ca. a year afterwards through the merchandise the money went to Geffen. That sounds like a very personal relationship to me. And have you not read Kurt's letters to Geffen? D.G. NEVER speaks casually like that to anyone but the people close around him and Kurt even dared to send him angry letters. And Geffen replied nicely, trying to call him down. Do you really think that Geffen wouldn't have got back at him/sabotaged his career after said scenario if he didn't have something else in mind A.K.A. milking Nirvana (and essentially, Kurt) as much as possible? At the end of the day they were and still are a huge moneymaker. D.G. has a reputation of literally KILLING people that dare to cross him and we've known that for decades now. Look at all of the blinds about his body count and alleged pedophilia that have nothing to do with Nirvana. Are you really going to put this past him? Come on now. And how do you know where the Nirvana money goes? Have you personally read the contract? What if the majority of the profits legally have to go to D.G., even if he had "stopped being the manager" of DGR? You're very naive. These people don't play with their money.

  60. @thecatwhisper

The Courtney Love narrative was something that was probably pushed originally by Himmmm, who would write, uncredited, a lot of the material in the early years.
Himmmm was a wannabe musician, and a fan of Nirvana and Chris Cornell (up to the point he would use photoshopped pictures of Cornell to make it look like they knew each other and had jammed together onstage).
Cobain dies? The widow has done it. Cornell dies? The widow has done it.

Notice a pattern? Himmmm was in full denial mode when one of his idols would commit suicide. He wouldn't think that depression could be a motive for someone to kill themselves. That was easier to him to put the blame on the shrew.
This was basically the way a young child handles sad news. And Himmmm was actually a guy suffering from depression, who ultimately killed himself.

Now, as Courtney Love hasn't been relevant to his target audience in ages, Enty repurposes Cobain's death as a new way to incriminate Geffen in something.

  62. I still believe it was COURTNEY who had Kurt murdered. She was whacked out on drugs, sure, but in her moments of clarity, she was/is highly intelligent and very capable of mastermining the murder of a man who had an extensive history of depression and suicidal ideation, as Kurt did. The word was that he was going to leave her for good, divorce her, and ditch the larger music industry to live quietly. He was going to retire from all the bullshit. But nobody ditches Courtney Love. If he left her she would have wound up broke so yes he was worth more dead than alive. It never made sense to me that he would kill himself with a long barrel shotgun while high as shit on heroin. Impossible. A handgun, maybe. Kurt Cobain was murdered and Courtney Love orchestrated it, and because of the lazy half ass starstruck investigation by the Seattle PD, she got away with it. Simple as that.
