Blind Item #7 - Reader Blind

This nostalgia themed musical group with a lot of members that still tours today became successful many decades ago after an appearance at this famous musical event.

Eventually they were given their own TV show.  However, the network replaced a number of the original members of the band with actors for the show. This did not go over well with the band’s management who demanded compensation. The network refused.  The band’s management had ties to to those who make offers that can’t be refused and they arranged a fatal accident for one of the lesser supporting actors on the show. After that, the network began paying what they asked.

  7. Bowzer (Jon Bauman), the greaser from Sha Na Na, was canvassing in a neighborhood near me for Hillary Clinton (I think) a few years ago. He was wearing a really bad suit, i kind of felt bad for him.

I just looked at his Wiki, he was trained at Julliard! And Sha Na Na was Sid Vicious's favorite TV show.

It's not the Cowsills. Nicest people you could ever meet, even tho their father was a total b*stard to them

  15. As a child, I lived in the same condo bldng in Cederhurst, NY as their best singer's sister. He was very nice to me. And my Poppa was a security guard on stage at Woodstock. My Hollywood stories are endless...;)

  18. @Momo- please answer a question for me about Barry Cowsill, with all respect given. He was my favorite Cowsill and it was so heartbreaking how his life went on a downward trend after his teenage years.

I saw the documentary "Family Band" and noticed that Barry never took off his hat and I heard that might be due to a terrible scar he was hiding on his forehead. Is that true, and if so, how did Barry get injured? Thank you if you can please answer that question.

  19. I think Sha Na Na started at Columbia University as a glee/doo-wop club. Somehow ended up at Woodstock.

One of their singers, Scott Powell, left the group and went back to medical school to become an orthopedic surgeon — and became team physician for the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team.

Another founding member, Robert Leonard, became a noted forensic linguist who has worked on a number of high-profile cases, including the JonBenet Ramsey murder.

  20. I too am a cowsills fan and would love to know more about Barry. I see those now adult kids as real warriors who somehow survived their father to varying degrees. there's a direct line from Bud to Barry's issues and also to Bill Cowsill's early demise. If you pay very close attention to the information in the family band movie, you learn a bit about Bud and his personal demons and realize that he simply turned around and took it out on his children. Those talented siblings had and have tremendous talent....what a gift....and Bud set about destroying it and himself.

  22. Sha Na Na was the band in Grease. Edd Byrnes, who played National Dance Off host Vince Fontaine, recently passed away.

  23. I feel bad for the actor who was killed. It wasn't his fault. Why didn't they threaten the assholes they had a problem with instead?

  24. No, the band in Grease was Flash Cadillac and the Continental Kids, a superior fifties theme band. Half the members died years ago. I knew them.

    This is Sha Na Na.

It’s definitely not the Cowsills, who are/were lovely people, and are insanely gifted.

  25. Flash Cadillac and the Continental Kids was American Graffiti, I believe.

Sha Na Na....three members released solo records. All sort of disco. Not bad. Not great. Breaking away from the brand, or trying to. f

  26. Yes, they were. They were also in Grease. And Apocalypse Now, I’m sure of this. I knew Sam McFadin (Flash).
