Blind Item #6
The A-/B+ list mostly movie actor can say what he wants, but he is revising history to say he didn't cost this back in the day A- list actress a role on a huge movie that people still love.

Garofalo was cool, but Helena Bonham Carter was the best Marla Singer possible.
ReplyDeleteCourtney Love would have been great in the role, and in fact wrote the best line in the movie. HBC is great in everything, so ... Janeane Garofolo is a legend in her own mind. She also walks down the street in NYC reading a book, so there's that. She would have been terrible in that part, because she's not pretty. Norton was being nice.
ReplyDeleteCourteney wouldn't even have to act to ace that part.
Delete@mck does the greatest line include the words "grade school"???
ReplyDeleteI doubt norton could influence the director that much, but if he did, it was a good call
ReplyDeleteGarofalo would have made a horrible Marla.
ReplyDeleteI dunno, this is tough choosing between an Oscar worthy actress like HBC or a comic that isn't funny like Garofalo.
ReplyDeleteSo Ed Norton is lower on the hierarchy than Janine (A-/B+ versus A-)? Hm.
ReplyDelete@LooLooEasy, Janine gets bonus points for her CDAN fan base.l
ReplyDeleteRight, it's not baldy's lack of talent cost her the role.
ReplyDeleteGarofalo is always the same character. So unless you wanted Marla to be changed into Garofalo, and not vice versa, she would have been a terrible choice.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about Shannen Doherty. She is so young and has seemingly been fighting cancer for a long time. I can't imagine her reality.
ReplyDeleteIsn't fight club too patriarchal for Garafolo?
ReplyDeleteonly if you don't understand it even a teeny tiny bit

the studio got day lewis diaz and dicaprio
@Brad, Those all actually make a lot of sense. I thought The Departed sucked, but it could have been great with Pacino, Pitt and Liotta.
ReplyDeleteBrayson, if you want to purge your memory of The Departed have you seen the Hong Kong film it was based on?
ReplyDeleteInfernal Affairs is one of the best films I have seen. The sequels weren't so good but the first was truly entertaining.
@Roger, No I haven't seen that, thanks for the recommendation. 👍
ReplyDeleteDefinitely looks interesting and the story fits Hong Kong a lot better.
@mck. How do you know that Janeane walk down the streets of NYC reading a book? ou know her.
ReplyDeleteThey're going to remake Internal Affairs. https://collider.com/internal-affairs-remake-paramount/
