Today's Blind Items - “Radio Wars” - an Intercerebellar blind item

This loud and controversial AM radio personality (#1) has taken a lot of external heat in recent years, but this pales in comparison to the scorched earth of ruined careers he has left in his wake.

If you associate with #1 in any of his businesses, you’d better toe his line for the rest of your natural life or he won’t just fire you, he’ll pull strings that make sure you never work in his section of the media again. He likes to act like it’s him versus the rest of the world, but he is extremely well connected behind the scenes, and has a lot of people doing him favors. Considering how much, and how often, his views and loyalties have changed over the years, this makes things rather difficult for those who enter his orbit.

Furthermore, if you accumulate enough of a following for you to be seen as competition, he will threaten you with the same ruination unless you get in line. Interesting how all those in #1’s sector of media, eventually begin to parrot his talking points. This is exactly what happened with another AM radio host (#2), easily recognized for his dulcet baritone voice, who seemed on the rise after taking over for this legendary late-night broadcaster (#3). A few years ago, he dared to call out #1 on his radio show.

The videos of #2’s broadcast were scrubbed completely from the Internet. Good luck finding them. #2’s career took a nose dive shortly thereafter, and he was never able to regain the presence he once had. He’s since been roped into making occasional appearances on #1’s show, and seems to have gotten much more in line.

  1. Hamptons Howie for #1

  2. the only legendary late night talk show host I know of was Art Bell from the show with all the psycho callers and UFO's and other stuff.

  3. I'll say Glenn Beck for #1

  4. I like Glenn Beck. One day he has TDS and the next day he doesn't.

  5. Glenn Beck #1
    George Noory #2
    Art Bell #3

  6. @Sandy and @Unknown have it. My mom and brother love Coast to Coast and the skeleton music (aka Inca Dance).

  7. @Alf#1 is not Howard he is on SiriusXM not AM. And he is transparent about the careers he went after to be #1 in radio.

#1 is most likely Rush Limbaugh.

  8. Could Enty mean "AM" as in "morning"? The only morning radio personality mentioned is Howard...

    ReplyDelete
  9. He means AM as in radio. #2 is also AM.

  12. #1 is definitely Glenn Beck. “Heat” and “scorched earth” are obvious references to Beck’s “Blaze” network, which employed many talk show hosts. (Rush works alone and certainly doesn’t have other hosts working for him.)

I don’t think #2 and #3 are George Noory and Art Bell. I’d look at hosts who are working for or used to work for Beck’s Blaze network.

  13. Rachel Maddow makes Glen Beck look sane and reasonable.

  14. Glenn Beck is way more than an AM radio personality though. I don't even know if he's carried on AM, or if it's all though his website.

  15. On second thought, #2 could certainly be Noory. The blind doesn’t say the host necessarily worked FOR Beck.

  16. #1-Sean Hannity
    #2- Glenn Beck
    #3 - Rush Limbaugh

  18. I don't know about Rush. Say what you want about him, but his views and loyalties have pretty much stayed the same since forever.

Also, while widely know, I don't think anybody (including his own fans) would consider Hannity "legendary".

I'd bet this is Howard related.

    1. Yes, he's never not been a conservative.

Beck is ex-Catholic turned Mormon, though. Perhaps that's the view switch referred to, not politics.

      Delete
  19. Also, Beck famously went from hating Trump to wearing a MAGA hat on his TV show.
    #1 is Beck.

  20. @Try/Yodster
This is not a Glenn vs Hannity thing.
Hannity may be well connected but any trouble Glenn has had - was his own doing, literal cheeto dust all over his face, bipolar meltdowns live on Fox News...
and he has recovered fairly well after nearly going bankrupt.
plus - he doesn't have a velvety voice...

  21. I think @unknown has it
    Glenn Beck #1
    George Noory #2
    Art Bell #3

    ReplyDelete
  22. Or....#1 is actually Alex Jones.

  23. Anybody else remember when Glenn Beck wasn't a wackadoo? About 20 years ago or so? He was actually very balanced politically, and his show was maybe 50% politics, 50% everything under the sun.

    1. @roque

I remember. There was a time when Glenn Beck was more tolerable than Sean Vanity, uh, I meant Hamburg.

    2. Glenn Beck went bonkers after 9-11. Before that he was tolerable.

  24. #1 is Howard Stern.

    Very, very vindictive.
You leave him, he buries you.

The only exception would be Artie Lane -- who has a host of other problems.
And, truly never a competitor to Howard.

    #2, #3 Don't know.

    1. Nobody would call Stern AM radio. Even before Sirius he was FM.

  25. I have a sneaky suspicion that these "talking points" have been parroted here many times. Isn't this where you AM radio smarties get the wholly original TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME 🙄

    ReplyDelete
  26. First guess is Stern. Not AM now, but he was at one time an AM King. He fits the description perfectly. Other guess would be Hannity, who seems like a total d.b. on his fox tv show.

reading is your friend. it said AM radio, it's not Howard.

  28. 1. Glenn Beck
    2. Ian Punnett (who also hosted Coast To Coast for years and would very likely have called out Glenn Beck)
    3. Art Bell

Only thing that doesn't add up is the "dulcet baritone voice." It's been years since I heard Punnett, but I don't remember his voice being all that "dulcet."

    1. @dabhidh

Ian Punnett’s voice does not sound like a soothing baritone to me but George Moody’s voice does.

  29. Howard only had a short run on AM radio with WNBC almost 40 years ago. Hint when a person writes books and openly talks about beating the competition. It's not a blind item.

  30. #1 Glenn beck
    #2 Jim Bohannon
    #3 Larry KIng

  31. #1 is obviously Alex Jones. Look at the title of the blind "Radio Wars" to reference "Info Wars". Also I would never characterize Glenn Beck as "loud" or even "controversial". Alex possesses both qualities 100%.

I have zero idea who 2 and 3 are though.

    ReplyDelete
  32. #1 Stern
#2 Stuttering John (John Melendez) "dulcet baritone voice" could be used sarcastically.
#3 Edd Hall (blind says "Late Night Broadcaster," not necessarily radio.

  33. #1 Alex Jones
#2 David Knight (has a great voice!)
    #3 Lionel?

  34. AM has to be morning. Does anyone listen to AM radio anymore unless for a sporting event? Stern is the only loud & controversial one I can think of.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. AM means “amplitude modulation.”

Talk and sports radio stations tend to be broadcast on the AM band. The majority of music stations are broadcast on the FM band.

The fact that so many fit tells a lot about quality of character in radio

It's not fucking Stern. This is Noory, there's only one legendary late night radio host, and that's Bell. This is iHeart radio/Premier Radio gossip. What show does Noory appear on? I got to stop listening to right wing radio when my mom died, I don't pay attention to these people. Hannity? Beck? Does Limbaugh do guests?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Or Larry King, he had a big early AM show before Coast to Coast really took off. His replacement was Jim Bohannan, who I know had little use for Limbaigh. Bohannan also had a deep baritone voice. But I would be surprised if he ever subbed for Limbaugh. Tough blind.

  37. 1. Alex Jones
    2. George Noory
    3. Art Bell

Noory has been on Alex's show a few times, most notably just after Art Bell died.

I'm not sure when Noory badmouthed Alex. But Art supposedly despised George.

    1. Alex Jones could not have affected Noorys career. Noory basically saved Jones' career in the early 2000s when he invited him on stage at a publicity event in Austin Texas.

  39. Boortz has always been libertarian, no view shift.

  40. 1: Alex Jones
    2: John B Wells
    3: Art Bell

John B Wells worked with Jones back in 2013, called him out on flip flopping on Sandy Hook after getting sued in 2015 and got fired from CtCAM. Now he does Alex Jones every so often, and has his own show again.

  43. George Noory is still helming C2C. He also has his own talk show on the Gaia Network. He took over long before Art died. Bell had another radio show that Dave Schrader took over ... he's still doing well.

As for the person who knocked Dr Rachel Maddow, she's a Rhodes Scholar. Beck is lunacy on parade.

  44. Another vote for
    1. Alex Jones (Infowars)
    2. John B. Wells
    3. Art Bell

Alex is well connected to the Mossad behind the scenes and changes his opinion on topics based on their current POV.

  45. Michael Savage might be one of these. I'm also betting Rush is involved.

Interesting thing about Rush Limbaugh. I worked as a Customer Service Manager years ago. A majority of the customer base were older men. I got a lot of interesting (meaning insane) emails and phone calls, but one day I got a letter linking me to a website dedicated to Rush Limbaugh. I thought it was bizarre at first. I grew up listening to Rush against my will. One of my parents really tried to program me to be a compliant conservative doll baby lol. That didn't stick. Anyway, after doing some digging, there were valid claims. Like Rush *allegedly* made repeated trips to the Dominican Republic in the mid 2000s, which is a known hub of child sex trafficking. I know this for certain, because someone extremely close to me worked in that region and saw a lot of horrific things there and in Haiti. On one of these trips, he was *allegedly* caught with a BUNCH of Viagra, way more than necessary. The thing is, he was going on this trip with all men to a country known for sex trafficking. Hmmmm. Makes you think. I've been patiently waiting for this to explode ever since.

This was 7 or 8 years ago. I don't know if the site still exists.

  46. Imma go with Phelps and unknown for the second...
    Alex Jones
John B. Wells (whose voice is quite distinctive"
    Art Bell
Which fits the crazy thing...that Alex Jones controls way more than most people think.

  47. Not Rush, he went for the Cigars.

  48. Loved listening to Art Bell back in the day. Wasn’t a fan of Noory. Then I learned what a POS Art Bell was:

  49. Stern hasnt had the relevance to impact competitors careers in many years. Closest to that in the last decade was when he had Opie banned from the halls as he arrived from work.

  50. Imus and his decades long issues with Hamptons Howie, the newly woke sell out.
