Once again the Academy decided to pretend the three named ingenue didn't exist in favor of the artist who was more willing to go along with the narrative the record industry wanted. What that artist doesn't know is that she is going to be one and done much like the foreign born one named singer that came before her that everyone thought was the second coming at the time a few years ago.

Can someone explain to me what I'm not hearing and why she won? Her music is awful and her voice is practically non-existent, in my humble opinion.

@Swishy, She's different from most singers, there are few alternatives, so she's a Pepper. Most of the time you want cola, but sometimes you get a little burnt on everything being the same, so you turn to Dr Pepper.

Lana Del Rey has been around for a while now. Not sure how she could be considered an ingenue.
Agree Eilish who's hot at the moment with a good popular album. Lorde who's 2nd effort sucked and has since disappeared. Ariana was the popular choice but Scooter couldn't/didn't want to fix it.Lana is the hipster critics choice who got snubbed again.

ReplyDeleteAriana Grande - she snubbed the Grammy's last year because they wouldn't let her control what songs she sung so the Grammy's snubbed her this year. Billie Eilish or however you say her name...in my opinion has no talent at all and is too young to figure out the name of the game yet so she goes along with anything/everything.

ReplyDeleteLana’s album was another Lana album. Billie is a breath of fresh (as the kids say) who isn’t selling her body or fucking fat men to get ahead. Granted, Billie needs her brother for her beats and needs to put out something new ASAP to keep her audience entertained, but I think she’s a great artist.

I don't understand why lorde's fans love so much Melodrama, it's an awful album. Billie is just the new hot thing.. ReplyDeleteNone of you must have a 15 year old in the house? I do. She's been following Billie since had a dozen fans on YouTube. I didn't get it at first but then I took her to a BE concert. I'm a huge music lover and within 2 minutes of the kid being on stage I totally got it. Music hit me differently in person than when I heard it come from her room. Stadium filled with teenage girls immediately jumping up and down in rhythm, tears falling during the sad songs to someone that is their age, relates to the how overwhelming difficult the world is for them right now, isn't flashing her body over talent, wrote her own lyrics and music w/her brother. I watched the whole show and for a 17 yr old just out of the gate it was great. The song she sang at the Grammy's is the highlight of her show. Her and her brother playing guitar on a bed like they did when they wrote it...and it floats up high over the audience - all the kids lit up their phones like stars. It was honest and not manufactured. I'd take that show over an Arianna any day.

She's really connected with tweens, teens and older people, and has been doing so for years. Everywhere audiences are begging for something different, new people and things they can relate to, throw their money at, but their pleas fall on deaf ears. The sausage factory only makes the same prepackaged fare for all.

ReplyDeleteI love Billies music. Granted her brother writes it and is super talented. My daughters (18 and 23) love her music. If you listen to the words, it truly hits deeper thoughts than getting a manicure because your boyfriend doesn’t like you (no offense to Lizzo, I actually love her music too). The music video for I had a dream made me cry. I also, as a teacher, love that she doesn’t slut herself out. She purposefully wears baggie clothes so people don’t comment on her body, if that makes a couple kids out there not decide anorexia is for them, than it is worth it.

ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of Billie Eilish. She's an amazingly talented lyricist; it's hard to believe the songs on WWAFAWDWG were written when she was 14-15-16 years old. I don't want to say anything corny like, "she has an old soul", but she really is mature beyond her years and she's not too cool to freak out when meeting her own idols, Bieber et. al.
