Blind Item #8 - Reader Blind

Yet another upcoming biography of this deceased permanent A+ musician has a chapter on the musician’s attempts to help this other older musician.

The older musician is/was a pioneer and innovator who had numerous hits a number of decades ago.  His musical influence can’t be stated emphatically enough.  The deceased musician is one of those whose style was influenced by him.   However, in the decades that followed, the older musician disappeared from view leaving behind erratic behavior and missed concert dates.  An unshakable drug habit was commonly given as the reason for this.

The deceased musician did everything for the older musician from getting him a recording contract with an advance to writing a song(s) for him to record to paying for attorneys who were fighting to get the older musician royalties he was owed to bringing him to live at his famous estate. He also many times tried to get him into rehab. However, the older musician always ended up running off and resuming his old ways at one point even living in a vehicle.

It is ironic that this older musician is still alive while the deceased A+ musician is not.

  4. If Prince had a "famous estate" we would all know the name of it, IE 'Graceland' or 'Neverland'

  7. George Clinton is still alive.

The two dead A+s that helped Sly were Prince and Rick James. But Rick James did not have a famous estate that I know of. And Prince has worked with Larry Graham forever, and Graham was the original bassist for the Family Stone.

  8. The Sly and the Family Stone medley in "Woodstock" is one of the two high points of the film. If you've never seen the segment, watch it--you won't be sorry

  9. Damn, so true, E.

The stuff they recorded in the late 60s/early 70s was revolutionary. "Stand" and "There's A Riot Going On" are two of the greatest albums ever recorded.

Anyone else remember the stories of Sly dating Doris Day?

  10. Yeah we rocked out to Sly in the theatre where we saw Woodstock. That segment made them huge stars, much bigger than they were before the movie came out. Alvin Lee and Joe Cocker too.

  11. 'Paisley park' IS a famous estate, this is Prince and Sly. Larry Graham who invented the 'slap bass' sound (think Sienfeld incidental music) was a regular player with Prince.

  16. George Clinton screwed over everyone around him especially Bernie Worrell, musician extraordinaire.

  17. David Bowie helped a number of musicians in ways similar to this, so until I saw "famous estate" I thought this could be him.

  18. David Bowie and Iggy Pop?

  19. If only Prince could have done this much for himself. The irony is especially due to Prince having a serious drug habit that killed him, when people denied he ever used drugs.

  23. @s.s.

You must be really young. Prince's estate was named Paisley Park. Prince was much older than me but even I know the name of the estate.

  24. @Guesser - Rumor has it Prince was HIV positive. Rumor has it Natalie Cole was as well. I think her brother died of HIV/AIDS.

I suspect a lot of celebrities are.

A while back, the National Enquirer ran a story claiming Freddie Mercury gave Carrie Fisher HIV/AIDS.

    1. @T.W. - pretty sure that Enty has posted blinds here in the past insinuating that Britney is potentially HlVplus also. I wouldn't be surprised if it is discovered that HlV is more prevalent within the entertainment industry than it is among people of differing professions, and I would hypothesize as such due primarily to the easy proximity of the Hollywood set to hard drugs (and a documented pattern of increased chances for drug dependency), and the increased likelihood of their engagement in irresponsible sexual proclivities as a result of said ease of access to hard drugs.

    2. The week before Prince died, numerous blinds about HIV A++ musician stopping his meds because his religion advised him too because he was god like. And some insinuations that Minnesota did not list it on death certificate.

  25. Prince and Sly he was living in a Winnebago or a van as I recall

  26. Hi, SD Auntie,
I’m not doubting your thought process, but wondering how his religion would accept the meds in the first place? Unless they didn’t know? Anyway, I so miss him, as well as the other greats. I was in a Sephora today, and Bowie was playing and it just ripped my heart apart. I’ll comment more about him and Iman in another blind.

  30. "A while back, the National Enquirer ran a story claiming Freddie Mercury gave Carrie Fisher HIV/AIDS."

That excerpt came from a book by Darwin Porter, who writes absolute bullshit fantasy novels about celebrities and calls them "biographies." Darwin Porter = Jackie Collins without the real world connections.

    Sly and prince .

  32. It is Prince and George Clinton. He even paid George's tax bill.
It is has been said many times that Prince was taking those meds due to illness that is being witheld. I cannot understand how anyone can think he worked that long and put out more music then anyone and was abusing drugs his whole life. Maybe the whole story will come out one day.
