ReplyDeleteAccording to Blind Gossip, Meghan was making money off the deal. She might have bought an $800 piece with her own money but then got paid something like $50,000 (just a random number) to promise to wear it and be photographed. And that's a big no-no with the Royal Family. A newspaper or magazine can report what a member of the Royal Family is wearing but not the manufacturer/designer/creator. The Royal Warrant exists for that. And Meghan can't be profiting from things if she sticks it in her own bank account. (Prince Charles' Duchy of Cornwall turns a profit, but it's public knowledge how the Duchy is run and where the money goes.)

ReplyDeleteLiz is trolling Meg at the moment, anyway. Last night at a reception Liz wore the rarely-seen Vladimir tiara with all its emeralds. That’s the tiara Meg wanted so badly for her wedding but was told “no.”
Liz even wore it with a white dress.

HOWEVER - it occurred to me the publicity could be from Jennifer Meyer herself - to broadcast all this, for her own publicity.
ReplyDeleteBuckingham Palace would never release this story. It's possible the story released by MM was also as a favor to Meyer for coverage - hard to know.
This blind is wrong. I agree with Nutty. Buckingham Palace shut down Jennifer Meyer's photos and merching agreement with MM. MM is working it currently cutting deals with as many people as she can while she's still attached to the BRF. TP posted that Markle was denied entry into Canada within the last week. So I'm expecting the shit show to get really interesting over the next few months. First up? Is Markle allowed back into England after the holidays are over?

@Tricia13 I've worked in the jewellery biz for years, and neither Me&Ro, nor Jennifer Meyer started that trend. As a matter of fact, Jennifer's designs were almost dated when they came out. The company I worked for was no trend setter, and we had already been selling those designs for over a year.

ReplyDeleteThe reason most of us assumed (besides the BRF issuing the request) is that she failed to pay her taxes when she worked on Suits. MM has a history of failing to pay her taxes. She fought the US IRS and lost over back taxes.

ReplyDeleteAccording to the Blind Gossip site, to get around the palace protocol of not accepting gifts, Meghan and Jennifer had a side deal for Meghan to pay for the jewelry up front, and then be quietly compensated for wearing the pieces. Jennifer capitalized on the arrangement by using Meghan's pictures, but it was noticed and shut down by the royal family. Meghan can’t admit she had a side deal, so she had to let the family take legal action against Jennifer. Jennifer can't say anything or it would make both her and Meghan look bad. So they both had to comply and be quiet. According to BG, Meghan will definitely find a way to make it up to Jennifer.

The ‘Mummy’ necklace, the turquoise ‘bar’ earrings. I didn’t bother to look thru the whole Etsy site but those two items are definitely listed (and obviously for a much lower price than Jennifer’s line.) So she they had a side deal AND Meghan knocked off her line?

The site is Meghan’s Mirror which lists & links to everything that Meghan wears. There’s also a knockoff line of jewelry, including her ‘wedding tiara’ and her ‘aquamarine ring as worn by Diana’ that are linked to the site and sold through Etsy. This is just one of MM’s many side gigs.

Here's the link to the entire line of merchandise on Etsy. Note it includes MM's name. Meghan's receiving a cut of the sales or she would have aggressively gone after this Etsy seller like she did those Ebay sellers.
I did a bit of Google Search sleuthing, and determined there are several Meghan's Mirror sites, all of which sell pieces that are described as "inspired" by articles that Meghan has worn, but nowhere did I find an indication that Meghan herself is in any way associated with them.
