This deceased TV actress was in two different hit shows (the first one was a spin-off). After her death, her record for this particular service was released publicly and it showed she had been treated for this malady which resulted in a disciplinary action. However, what wasn’t discussed was how she contracted it. The truth is she was sexually assaulted many times by someone in an authority position while she was involved in this service. It is perhaps the reason she developed such a tough exterior and always denied that she had spent time in this service.

ReplyDeleteI like the Bea Arthur guess, but I’m holding out for @ladyskipper102’s....
ReplyDeleteGood girl
DeleteBea Arthur. Loved the death stare she gave Jeff Ross during the celebrity roast when he mentioned her when talking about Sandra Bernhard.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Bea Arthur. She contracted VD while in the Marines and was disciplined. Sad that it was as a result of repeated assaults. I know she left money in a trust to help homeless LGTB youths. I think?? the group home is even named after her.
ReplyDeleteBea.❤️ A Queen in heaven now .🥰
ReplyDelete😢
ReplyDeleteBea Arthur loved her comedy
ReplyDeleteDang, I loved her. You're right, Ann- she has a fund in her name for homeless LGBT youth of the Ali Forney Center.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand it was a very generous donation and that her BFF, Angela Landsbury helps out as well.
I would have love to have seen the face of the lady marine commanding officer that had to write ol bea up in the permanent file!
ReplyDeleteBea Arthur was in a few episodes of All in the Family as Edith's outspoken cousin. Maude was the spin off. Golden Girls-our 26 yo's favorite show- was the 2 hit show.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside, do y'all think All in the Family would fly today or would too many snowflakes melt?
Abby, it would have to be a more contemporary version of All in the family! Archie was such a racist, THAT wouldn't fly but I think it would be interesting to have the same dynamic with liberal kids/ conservative father or the opposite a la Family Ties. In this political climate, there are so many jokes on both sides. Both have behaved horribly.
ReplyDeleteWait, what? This is the very first I've heard of this. Bea should be proud of her service, and helping others as her legacy. Off to do more research.
ReplyDeleteSlim, we all knew that Archie was racist. He was always made to look like a fool though for his racism. That was the beauty of the show. Comedy was used to make people see that racism, sexism, homophobia iare wrong.

ReplyDeleteNational Enquirer or Star Magazine ran a story about her military service a loooong time ago. They even had her military pic.
ReplyDeleteI am a female vet. I thank God I was not sexually assaulted but I can tell you I am in the minority. Don't even get me started on the male rapes...
