This deceased comedic actor was primarily famous for a comedy show that in its run introduced many great comedians and actors to the world. He is especially known for two characters he did on the show that both had cartoons versions later. He also appeared in movies and did a lot of voiceover work.
It doesn’t matter where this comic actor was during the holidays season. Around Christmas, he could be found dressed up as Santa or perhaps as an elf or in some other costume handing out presents at an orphanage or other home for unwanted children. He did this like clockwork until the last couple of years when he was too sick to do this any longer then he sometimes had family members go in his stead.

Red Skelton?
ReplyDeleteRed Skelton?
ReplyDeleteOh, Sandy, great minds think alike. I'd'a beat you if I didn't have to do a stupid Google verification!
ReplyDeleteYou don’t need to do that I’m not a robot thingy, just press publish your comment
ReplyDeleteTruly lovely!
ReplyDeleteWhat were the two characters that became cartoons?
I've heard this same story about Alan Hale from Gilligan's Island, handing out toys to poor kids dressed as The Skipper. Don't think this is the same guy.
ReplyDeleteGene Wilder
ReplyDeleteClem Kaddiddlehopper had the same voice as Bullwinkle the Moose but I’m not sure what the other character was. Foghorn Leghorn sticks in my mind but I’m not sure that’s based on any Skelton character.
ReplyDeleteSomeone from Laugh In? That artie johnson guy?
ReplyDeleteJim Backus?
ReplyDelete+10000 Mr Magoo and Mr Howell. Rebel without a cause!!
DeleteTim Conway? Carol Burnett show. Lots of movies, voice over (Sponge Bob, Scooby Doo, etc). Had well known characters. His son has a radio show and he does help kids during Christmas.
ReplyDeleteGod bless him, whoever it is.
ReplyDeleteI was one of those kids, when I was ages 4 thru 6. 50 yrs later, I still remember the event I was taken to, for kids who needed a gift. I remember sitting there, and Santa's helper calling my name, running up to get my little gift. You do not forget those moments. Ever.
Ohh Dear....thanks for sharing that!
DeleteIam glad you're better off but still haven't forgotten the past!
And yes Blessings to whoever this is !
Kindness is always king in the end. Wish todays stars could recognize that much sooner!
DeleteI’m going with Jim Backus . He seems like a gentleman and real stand up guy
ReplyDeleteJim Backus my first guess, too.
ReplyDelete@Sandy, no, not that kind of verification. I changed my Google password over the weekend and it was my first time signing on with this computer, so Google wanted me to verify my password.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Backus fits. He's primarily known for Gilligan's Island, which didn't introduce a lot of comedians or actors to the world.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, I don't have a better idea. :(
I met Red Skelton years ago when he was performing at a casino in Reno. He drew a clown for me. :)
ReplyDeleteHmm...Arte Johnson? Were his Laugh-In characters (the lecherous old man on the bench and the 'veddy, veddy interesting) made into cartoons?
ReplyDeleteArte Johnson
ReplyDeleteLaugh-In for the show
Cartoon characters based on the show - "Years after Laugh-In ended, the two characters (Tyrone and Gladys) were the subject of an animated Saturday-morning children's show, Baggy Pants and the Nitwits."
Voice-overs - Scooby Doo, The Smurfs, Animaniacs
Definitely him.
Loved Arte Johnson! My favorite was his character in Love at First Bite.
DeleteRenfield!
Tim Conway.

ReplyDeleteWhy is this a blind item?!
ReplyDeleteProbably more of a fun guessing game than a blind ;)
DeleteDaryl: Thanks for sharing such a sweet memory of Christmas. It's so nice to encounter a sweet comment occasionally! Some of you guys are brutal! LoL. Happy Holidays everyone. Cheers.
ReplyDelete+1 Red Velvet. This is Arte Johnson. Didnt know the park bench old lady and man were made into cartoons.
ReplyDeletePeter sellers? Pink Panther?
ReplyDeleteHey Daryl - very touching share. We all should each donate a gift to an organization in honor of Daryl - come on y'all - say yes!!! 💗😀
ReplyDeleteRobin Williams
ReplyDeleteJim Backus voiced Mr. Magoo, but not any other cartoon characters that I know of.
ReplyDeleteflip wilson
ReplyDeleteJack Benny
ReplyDeleteNone of the guesses fit so far. I'm stumped.
ReplyDeleteArtie Johnson had another cartoon, a shark that spoke like that german nazi character he did
