  6. I sadly let my last VCR go years ago, along with the last of the tube TVs. Just felt wrong getting rid of stuff that still worked but what can you do?

  7. Yes a few weeks ago.

I have lots of VHS tapes still. Looked into buying a new player and apparently they aren't made any longer... at least not mass-produced. Insanely expensive.

    1. You can get a Toshiba VCR/DVD vombo for $200 at Sears. Or go to Goodwill or Sears. People dump perfectly good electronics there all the time. Sometimes they ate broken though to be careful.

I had to buy a used casette tape player on Amazon after I dumped an old excellent one just so I could convert old mix and other tapes to digital using Audible. Such a shame.

  8. I still have a TV/VCR combo. Since it still works, why would I throw it out? I don't use it often, but sometimes if the internet crashes I can still watch some old tapes.

  9. I havent used them recently, but still have a couple dvd/vcr combo players and loads of vhs movies and vcr recordings I dont want to part with.

I hate only being able to record shows via the cable company device or watch things on demand.

  11. I actually bought a VCR on the last day they were manufactured. I still have it brand-new and unopened.

Our VCR (and DVD player) is about the only time the television gets turned on. (Minus the playing time with my Nintendo Switch games). We have a huge library of old VCR tapes. Add in the DVD library and most of what we would want to want to watch are on old media.

    1. @Kiki, I had the NIN Closure double-VHS tape set back in the day. Good times. Remember being intrigued at the footage of the Cielo Drive/Sharon Tate estate where the 'Gave Up' music video was filmed. Also remember being horrified at the 'Happiness in Slavery' video 🤢🤮 hahaha.

  17. I ripped all my VHS a number of years ago but retain a couple as well as a betamax if I have to rip any tapes in the future.

  18. Vintage porn on vcr is like listening to vinyl records.

  19. We got all our movies in DVD or Blue Ray format years ago, but there just might still be a VCR kicking around in the basement. (I too miss my '80s porn.) But no, we never use it. It's all DVDs and PVR (DVR to Americans) these days!

  20. I mean jeez, I also unloaded the DVD players, and even some of the blu-ray players are gathering dust. HD and streaming made a lot of stuff obsolete.

  21. Yes. I have tapes of some rare foreign films and also my old Pilates routines.

  22. Yes, I have so many VHS tapes that I don't have time to convert, and it's a lie that they fade.

  23. Yes, as a doorstop.

  24. Yes. All of the 'movies' of our kids growing up are on VHS, I keep one around so that we will be able to watch them (embarrass them!) if we so desire.
