Blind Item #12

There is a buzz that if this late night show doesn't get their ratings up, that this season could be its last. After so many years, I thought it would be ratings proof, but apparently not. Last season hit some all time series lows and the unthinkable is starting to become thinkable.

    2. Sorry Tricia *takes mic* imma let you finish...but I have to say the reason SNL is not doing well is because every episode after Lin Manuel Miranda has been very honest. They pick on both sides and I do believe they resented people like alec Baldwin coming on who took away from their screen time. If theyre not doing well it's because they are not fully going along with the agenda. Maybe its Lorne? Or The black cast members who genuinely (watch the Chappelle SNL)seem to get the hypocrisy of the dems? I really dont know... but I encourage everyone to enjoy this show again. It really is not bent too left..i mean we have to be able to make fun of dems and Republicans right? The impersonations of the Trump brothers is freakin hilarious! Ok. As you were.Thank you. See ya on Twitter gurl!

  7. I'd say Daily Show but original content isn't Comedy Central's strong point, not sure what they'd replace it with.

SNL sucks, proven once again by their premiere where they completely wasted the very funny Woody Harrelson. They really should have given most of the cast the night off and let him do his own show. Still, NYC worships that show like it's funny and it can't cost that much to run, no big name regulars anymore.

  8. SNL is so super woke...they sucked all the fun right out of comedy.

Political humor is actually fine sometimes...if they do both sides but when they hammer one side over and over and over with stuff that just isn't funny...

  13. Technically SNL was cancelled once in the 80's for a few weeks. But Eddie Murphy agreed to come back another season saving the show. Hence how pissed he was at David Spade calling him a "falling star" on Hollywood Minute sketch. Ironic that Eddie will do a show this season, the ratings will be huge i'm sure.

Nothing is bullet proof. As long as Lorne is around he will do what he has to keep the show going. It's his legacy.

  14. SNL has been a caricature for years. They no longer create.

    ReplyDelete
  15. To add, Enty has been saying for at least 3 years now Pete Davidson was going to be fired from SNL. Yet Lorne keeps bringing him back. So I am not to worried about SNL being canceled anytime soon.

  18. SNL - I could handle it if the show just missed the mark on their jokes, unfortunately, I think their jokes are the least of their worries. Like others are saying, stop the political sh!t unless you're going to hammer it from both sides. I don't like watching a show that's been a staple in my house since I was a kid to get someone's political view shoved down my throat while they fail miserably at making me laugh. Try harder on the laughs and give up on the politics already. UGHHHH!!!! What a waste. The news skit used to at least drum up some funny stuff but it's all politics, too. I don't even care what side of the political fence yer on - this is supposed to be a funny skit comedy show, not a political talk show with crap humor - that's what Bill Mahers is for, LOL!! On the other hand, I can't imagine trying to please this country as lop-sided and offended as it has become, writing vanilla jokes that won't offend anyone must be so much fun. bleecchhhh

This is not Saturday Night Live. While I don't like the show, SNL ratings are solid. It is down a bit as all TV shows are while the transition to online happens. I think this is The Tonight Show. Tonight's ratings are not good. Early September had The Tonight Show ratings at a nine month high, and that was only a .56 rating, 2 million viewers. That is not enough viewers to generate the revenue needed to pay to produce the show and provide a decent profit to NBC.

    ReplyDelete

    1. My first thought was also the Tonight Show. For that to go off the air would be much bigger than if SNL did. And I don’t think the ratings are there either.

  32. The would not canceled The Tonight Show. The would just replace Jimmy Fallon NOT cancel the Tonight Show.

And Fallon even beat Stephen Colbert last week in demos aka the ket to staying on the air.

“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” topped the late-night ratings for the last week of the 2018-19 TV season.

The NBC series stayed on top of the ratings despite taking a hit week-to-week, falling from its previous 0.35 to a 0.32 average rating in the adults 18-49 demo. CBS’ “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” came second in the demo and similarly slipped from a 0.31 to a 0.30, while ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” (0.29) dropped down two-hundredths of a point.

    This is SNL.5 years low.

SNL has not been fun even before the Trump hate. I never thought Kristen Wig and that group was even funny. I would say the last funny cast was Will Ferrell and that group including Jimmy Fallon/ Tina Fey and etc even though they are nothing like the 80/90s SNL. Man I love Norm MacDonald and still watching his clips on YouTube and they held up so well.

But, yes. Go WOKE. GO BROKE is right.

All late night shows are down from 5 years ago. Man I miss Leno. He was averaging what 6 million at the end of his run? None of the late night shows can reach 4 million anymore.

  34. Leno's last night (not average) on Feb. 4, 2014.

UPDATE, 11:46AM: Jay Leno’s last Tonight Show has outdone the host’s first departure in 2009 to hit its highest viewership numbers since 1998. Last night’s farewell was seen by 14.637 million viewers, numbers not seen since the 14.962 million that watched when Jerry Seinfeld showed up as a guest on May 14, 1998 when his hit primetime show ended. With a 3.8 rating among adults 18-49, last night’s Tonight hit its best demo result since the 4.4 of January 22, 2010 when Conan O’Brien ended his brief stint fronting the late night show. Leno drew over 11.9 million viewers when he first signed off Tonight on May 29, 2009.

  38. Yes. I saw the skit actually online. Problem is.... the majority of people once they no longer feel welcome...they leave and never look back with good reason. SNL deserves it shits ratings even outside the political bashing because 95% of the skits are not funny mainly because of how PC comedy in general has become. They cancel COMEDIANS for doing their job and poking fun of things other people are not allowed to.

Also...the cold opening was about Trump....so anyone sick of politics and right of far left probably turned the channel even if they were excited to see Woody.

  39. I'm guessing there's a bunch of Trumpsters on here that don't like the way their idiot president (lower case 'p' for this guy) is being shown. A few months ago I did a very basic crunch of the numbers and I was surprised by something. The daily soap operas (4 of them) pull in about the same viewership as all of the late night talk shows combined (a dozen or so). Why are the talk shows considered prizes to the networks but the soaps are not? I wonder how they stack up against day time game shows? Probably about the same.
It's time for a new venue for late night. One or two talk shows is plenty. I don't understand why a network doesn't run more risque shows during that time or even uncensored versions of their own shows. Also made for tv movies with interesting subjects not done in prime time.

Not that y’all are worried about being seen as hypocrites (you simply don’t care and the media certainly won’t hold you to account), but it’s really making people go from mild dislike and annoyance to outright hatred and fury.

  46. Independents are not even tuning in to see SNL and late night. It is anyone right of FAR LEFT.

I have plenty of friends/ people I can talk and hang out with/ co-workers and we disagree on a variety on different things. The difference is one does not have to be on the right (even independents are such of the political bs) to see how there is malice and contempt for those who dare to be right of far left by these late night talk hosts and comedians. It is their hatred we cannot tolerate not their differing of opinions.

There are plenty of actors/ actresses I still watch who I know I disagree with on so many different things. But, they are smart and aren't going on different talks shows/ late night shows spewing their contempt of all the people that they disagree with like DeNiro/ Baldwin/ etc. There is a difference and people recognize the hate when they see it so they tune out.

The truth is in the numbers. Also, movie attendance is at a 20 year low and the only ones making money are the sequels.

But, what is the point of arguing with a brick wall. The left failure to see and understand it only benefits independents/ conservatives.

  48. God you right wing snowflakes are such tiresome hypocrites. Your beloved president bullies people all the time! Calling any criticism of him "treason"! Aren't you the ones who were just pointing out SIX MONTHS AGO that if Trump colluded with Russia it can't be "treason" because in order for something nto be treason we had to be at war with them?!

Anyway, even if this is supposed to be SNL, it's not true, because their ratings are higher than most prime time shows. "The Tonight Show" would seem to fit most of the qualifications, but I don't think it's that bad off (unless the expenses are too high). Conan or Daily Show might also work.

Oh, and for the game show versus soap opera comparison: the production costs of soap operas are higher than talk shows. And the revenue is lower because the demographics are less desirable. So even if the numbers are the same they don't make as much money.

  53. To all the left-leaners on here accusing ALL SNL critics of being "obvious, diehard Trump fans" who are "unable to take a joke", I have two words to disprove your asinine assumptions. Hint: these two words comprise the title of one singular television show that has lasted for DECADES providing ample proof that equal opportunity comedy is the recipe for success and longevity. This is a show proven to be equally enjoyed by people of differing political, economic, and social persuasions. This is a show where NO TOPIC is EVER off limits where humor and satire is concerned. "Woke Culture" is nothing but a punchline. Repugs and Demon-rats are equally maligned and humiliated. Figure it out yet? Need another hint?? Do the terms 'Giant Douche' or 'Turd Sandwich' mean anything to you!?!? Oh hell, I'll just spill it. The answer is South Park.

Americans are smarter than these network execs and political theatre thespians give them credit for, and we can see right through performative pandering and censorship efforts. All I can say is THANK HEAVENS for shows like South Park and comedians like Dave Chappelle who refuse to play that game. Woke is broke, and woke is DESTROYING comedy!

Lemme tell ya a little secret.... Performative, "woke" comedy is about as funny as the mess left in your underpants on day #2 of your menses - when your super-plus tampon fails (and you've sadly forgotten to utilize a maxi kotex as a flood insurance).

It is insane. Why are those shows are classics? Because they poke fun- good heartedly- at the world including all nationalities/ religions/ ethnicities / hetero/ homosexuality (NOT there is anything wrong with that! LOL) and everyone took it as a joke.

Social media has ruined comedy and the executives are fucking idiots because they keep caving to the Twitter mobs.

Chapelle is awesome but received 35% positive reviews on latest special by critics but a 99% audience score! Larry David is a fucking genius but liberal as hell but his humor is pretty all inclusive. His last season of Curb which is like my favorite show was based on a Fatwa LOL

Again, the truth is the numbers and sorry liberals, you guys are not winning at the moment. Have your shows. Who cares!

And, who is whining? Pointing out facts is not whining. LOL have your late night talk shows and SNL. I'll stick to things actually funny.

  59. SNL is lame. It's actually been lame from the very beginning, with the occasional flash of brilliance that turns some cast member into the next big thing, just because there has been a great sketch that towers over the ocean of mediocrity and hack jokes.

That said, the show wouldn't get cancelled. This is a franchise that's simply too valuable for NBC and Lorne Michaels. Just count the number of successful sitcoms created by a former staff writer or starring a former cast member. There's been a lot of them. If the ratings for SNL are low, they'll do as they've done many times, they announce a complete overhaul of the show, they change the cast, and it always bounces back from the dead.

So, it makes zero sense for the network to cancel SNL.
However, it makes TOTAL sense for a "gossip blog" that actually caters to the taste of the Trump voters to mention that SNL may be cancelled soon, given the numerous complaints by Trump over the content of the show. It could mean one less dangerous opponent to the regime (just kidding...). It's a shame he never watched a superior and much edgier satire, like The President Show on Comedy Central, and complained about it on Twitter, because they could have used the publicity.

Also, they wouldn't cancel The Daily Show now. An election year is coming, and that's when they get their highest ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  60. @Katy, I watched the whole episode, found the debate amusing at times, like when they could lean on Larry David and Maya Rudolph. But the kid gloves were on. Except for Biden it was friendly hahas all around. What was Warren's thing, that she was boring? Oh harsh finger snap. Larry David made you want to vote for Bernie. They used Maya Rudolph to make Kamala Harris a cool aunt. Biden got some sh!t for being daffy, but he's the far left's least favorite despite his popularity.

That reminds me, whichever party you vote for next election, you're going to be voting for a geriatric white person, way to go diversity.

But, those who have a sense of humor...which I do think Trump does....can sense the difference between hate and network propaganda and making fun of someone in good faith....."good faith" is the standard. A standard that zero late night hosts/ MSM interviewers/ SNL have anymore.

People can recognize a joke between actual distain and a joke. STOP demeaning people intelligence... FAR LEFT! AKA the now Democratic Party.....

The same as most people can tell the difference between actual Christians and the Westboro Baptist Church extremists. Muslims and bombers. One gets media screen time and one does not. Can you guess WHY ?

Craig Ferguson was always the sexiest interviewer...but,was replaced by Fatso James Corden.....ugh. PC culture.

ANd, I am under 30...damn it you people hahah!

And lol you’re a baby omg glad to see that not all young people are libtards. I’ll say that I’ve laughed at everyone except Kimmel. He’s just sleazy in a bad way, he sets off my creep radar big time 🤷🏼‍♀️

  75. First of all, comedy has always included political satire. But now it is just mean spirited, and worse, not funny. A lot of the best humor of the past could not be done now,for fear someone, anyone would be offended. You are no longer judged by now you lived your life or your talent, but what you tweeted that someone took the wrong way. Politically Correct comedy = not funny especially with satire. There are no more "watercooler" debates about SNL,or someone's monologue. Because now people only want to hear someone agree with themselves. And I think this is the Tonight show, but Enty wants us to think SNL.

  77. If the Chicoms launched an EMP attack on NA and we never had another broadcast of TV ever again nothing of value would have been lost. In fact it might account for a dramatic improvement of manners as people would no longer be able to watch the impudent methodical rudeness of so many Los Angeles cocaine addicts as their paradigm for normal behavior in society.

  84. SNL - excruciatingly boring piece of crap that sealed their own fate when they buried themselves in unrelenting politically correct bulshittery. Once is funny .. twice is bearable, but it's not entertainment. It's not even imaginative any more.

  85. @Sd Auntie...thanks...agreeing half the time make us human..and not warped by saying that those who disagree are evil.

I truly wish the wish the best for all us :

So: Even ENTY loves Brti Brit/ as did one of my first CDS:

My loneliness is killing me (and I)
I must confess I still believe (still believe)
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
    Give me a sign
Hit me, baby, one more time

  86. \\ I did stand up and I am inspired to do it again. i live near a major city with great open mic nights and have scoped it out already. Totally cool. Al Capone was a regular there, they say. Last time I did an open mic I said HEY my name is ... and I am not a lesbian or a jew. I got a huge laugh because everyone else before me was either or or both. That's where you get a rush. You push it and the discomfort manifests in people laughing. It's been studied. It's science. It represents a CHANGE in your mind. You KNOW it's true and it hurts in a way.

ANYWAY it's SO FUNNY to me that people who hate DJT talk about think about and post about him all the time. I guess they don't know shit about being where their attention is, so to speak. There is no such thing as negative publicity. As long as they are saying your name, you are winning. I have all these idiot friends on FB that post constantly about what "he" is doing, saying. I don't post about politics but if I did the last person I would talk about is HRC because she literally makes me want to wretch when I see her. Sorry I brought it up. Hope she goes away, quietly and soon.

    SNL is on life support.

They started acting like the official arbiter of everything that officially matters during the first Obama term. Fuck ‘em. That’s not comedy.

I'm not going to lie, I've enjoyed his acting in many things, but yes, you are exactly right!! Double standards for sure.

  94. Saturday Night Live. It has ceased being funny, and has become a Hate Trump show. Ho hum.....if I wanted to watch everybody hating on Trump, I would just watch the nightly Propaganda news.

  95. look the reaction of everyone on here just shows theres no place for the show in our culture anymore..the left became unbearable first which is why i left it and now everyone else is just pissed off and uptight too because of the left ruining it for everyone else... now we are all playing by the same fucked up stupid rules and the left hates it but you allowed this to start and now we all pay the price.should have listened when us classical libs said it would backfire and be too much.. but no

  96. One last thought. I used to look forward to and loved the correspondence dinner. Thouhht is was hilarious and loved everyone poke some fun at themselves and each other. The one with the “comedienne” was the final straw. It was not funny. Just mean. I cringed for Sarah Huckabee Sanders having to sit there with a smile pasted on her face because she believe it or not is a classy person. That was it for me. I dont watch ANY late night talk shows, no SNL, and notiing with DeNiro. These used to be a staple in my home. Like I said before, I dont mind some good hearted fun poking people. It has turned totally mean and condescending and lecturing and people trying to convince me they were smarted than me. Plenty of fun can be poked all ways. Without being mean. Chapelle is a genius. Bring back the funny and maybe I will come back. Maybe not. There’s too much to fill my life without the meanness.

    ReplyDelete
  97. PS This also goes for awards shows. I tune in to be entertained, not lectured to. Bring back the days when we had no idea who our favorite celebrities liked or leaned politically.

  98. Just heard ratings on SNL are the lowest in 5 years. It does not surprise me- they are so vicious towards Trump and it is not funny. They did a piece about the Democratic candidates and it was hilarious. When they gently mock and the writing is good it is SNL at its best. The Trump hate is bringing them down. Trump is hilarious as it is- have you ever seen it when he gives one of his speeches with the patter and jokes? The SNL announcer does a fantastic Trump impression but they never use that guy- just angry Alex. They are digging their own grave. They are also so full of themselves- if it is SNL.

  99. Aww, Republicans are so thin skinned. The president is most ripe for parody, that's why he gets made fun of the most. If he weren't a dumpster fire, they'd find a different target.

Go back and watch the skits where Phil Hartman brilliantly mocked President Clinton, jogging to McDonald's and eating stealing people's food. They also had skits with Lewinski & Linda Tripp and had Hartman as Clinton declare "I am bulletproof" after that scandal failed to take him down.

    ReplyDelete
  100. @nonya I watched all those. Not thin skinned. I just think it has gotten all one sided and just mean, not funny. I don’t mind poking fun at Trump and company but there is PLENTY on the other side to satirize. Doesn’t have to be mean. Funny is funny.

  103. Remember when Colbert was hilarious on The Daily Show? He satirized Republicans but he was funny. Then they just got ugly. Can't stand Colbert now. Nor John Stewart. Sad because I used to really love Jon before his mouth foaming and hypertensive episodes.
