Even though he didn't create or develop them, this A+ list mogul who everyone knows wants people to think he did create them, hence the name change. It is not about branding, but ego.
So the implication is he just developed this ego last week, after not having it all these prior years?
I think a far more likely reason for the change is a defensive mitigation against one of the serious government probes or complaints against the company. For example there is an FTC investigation now spinning up about whether the purchase of Insta and WhatsApp were truly about improving and integrating the overall corporate service or simply to buy competitors.
Zuckerberg is definitely a dick, but the blind is completely fake. They don't change apps name just to satisfy the ego of somebody. And Zuckerberg is well aware that the reputation of Facebook isn't that great. The real issue is money and messaging.
Facebook has for the moment three different messaging systems, with Messenger, WhatsApp and the chat system of Instagram. They want to unify the three of them, to allow, for instance, somebody on WhatsApp to get in touch with somebody on an Instagram account. It will also allow them to offer the same services, on all three apps, making it easier for them to make money.
The first step is to explain people that WhatsApp and Instagram are part of the same group as Facebook, which is the biggest brand out of the three, and in a second phase, they'll start to unify the experience and the underlying technology.
Formerly anonymous emails and discussion sites are demanding real life info or they shut the account down.
That OATH contract pops up when you log in. Ever read it? Seems to say you will allow anyone they choose to read and disseminate your private emails.
Facebook follows you around - even without logging into other sites, there's your facebook profile pic and name, in case you wish to comment. (Tracked you there.)
They're locking it all down and tying it all up. Scary stuff Queen Bee.
Mark Zuckerberg with Instagram and WhatsApp

He didn't create Facebook, either, he stole the idea from two students while he was in university.

Umm but we all know Facebook purchased them for billions. How is he going to suppress the press releases?

ReplyDeleteIsn't it all really just DARPA
ReplyDeleteWhat if people on Insta do not want their messages going to their fb page. What if they don't use their name or are avoiding stalkers. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteNo I don't mean me.
I agree @Samantha the 1st. I don't really want my social media all integrated.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Queen Bee! Me, either!
ReplyDeleteThat's the way it all seems to be going, though.
