Blind Items Revealed #25

They used to be a super close father/offspring duo. Not any longer. The actor, who is permanently A-/B+ list is someone all of you know. He has been in hit movies and hit television shows. He is an Emmy nominee/winner. His list of credits might be longer than just about anyone. Several years ago he cheated on his long time wife with someone much younger. That someone much younger got pregnant. The wife found out and filed for divorce. It crushed her. She died soon after and the sole offspring of the pair blames the actor/dad for the death.
Gary Cole

Gary Cole
This isn't the Diff'rent Strokes kid, is it?
ReplyDelete@Lucky: you’re thinking Gary Coleman. But I had to image* search Gary Cole, and immediately recognized him.
Delete*Always the most useful tab to have open while browsing CDAN.
No, he's the dad from the Brady Bunch movies from the 90's.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I only vaguely know of The Brady Bunch.
ReplyDeleteWhat an asshole. Wiki only lists the daughter as his children. Did the side piece abort?
ReplyDeleteGary Cole was in the Babylon 5 spinoff- "Crusade". That's probably his most memorable role for me.
ReplyDeleteGary Cole is also in Suits, so we can take this as another MM-adjacent reveal. I always have to look up the character actors.
ReplyDeleteThis is very sad. He doesn't seem like an asshole at all. People make mistakes. If his wife committed suicide, that is NOT his fault. The daughter needs to forgive. Get some family counseling and be good to each other. Family is more important than anything. I realize there are times when that is not possible, but IMO, this hardly qualifies as a reason to write off your father.
ReplyDeleteI can't find anything that says how she died. Where are you seeing "suicide"?
DeleteLucky, if you IMDB'd him (the second most useful tab to have open will on this site), you will definitely recognize him. He's been in just about everything. Most importantly, Office Space.
ReplyDeleteVeep, the Brady Bunch Movie, and awesome in Office Space. And has everyone forgot the underrated TV show, Midnight Caller?
ReplyDeleteI forgot about Midnight Caller. I loved that show! I wonder if it's on Netflix or Prime. Doubt it but off to check.
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough, he was in "F is For Family" on Netflix for a couple of seasons, as the head of an airline, and his main plot arc was based on him having a trophy wife younger than his daughter.
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree with Sunkist. If she was so crushed by his careless affair, he was probably aware of just how much cheating on her would hurt her. To still cheat is pretty heartless. That makes him responsible for *something*. Responsible for her suicide? No. But responsible for knowingly creating the circumstances that could lead to her suicide? I’d say so. But Maybe he isn’t an asshole. An affair is a pretty big “mistake” though. At least wrap it up. What exactly would a parent have to do to warrant estrangement? Kill someone? Well, um... If “Family is more important than anything,” he should’ve thought about that before doing what he did.
ReplyDeleteThe last few years he’s played Christine Baranski’s husband in The Good Wife & currently on The Good Fight.
ReplyDelete@ElCartero.
ReplyDeleteHe is Roger Dunbarton?! 😲
Ricky Bobby’s
ReplyDeleteDeadbeat Daddy
Oh wow I would NEVER have guessed him.
ReplyDeleteOne of those "he has been in everything" actors. Presently residing in the CDAN scumbag archives. Too bad.
ReplyDeleteI remember him most from portraying Dr Jeffrey McDonald in the miniseries "Fatal Vision". McDonald was imprisoned after his pregnant wife and 2 very young daughters were slaughtered in the house while he was on the couch. He claimed some hippies broke in and knocked him out and killed his family. Horrific story.
ReplyDeleteWhile we may all know his face, we do not all know him name.
ReplyDeleteSaw him in a small stage production of American Buffalo, years ago, he was really very engaging, on stage. It was a treat, as I had bought the tickets before realising he was the lead in Midnight Caller, a show I’d been a fan of. Mum and I really enjoyed it, and I’ve always felt very fond of him since then. Love seeing him pop up in various things, including Veep, which last season I binged recently. He’s a very gifted and versatile journeyman actor. It’s unfortunate if this is real/true. I’m going to stay a fan, for now, though. I mean, as far as we know, he hasn’t locked any teenagers in closets and peed on them, right?
ReplyDeleteWhat did his wife die of? RIP
ReplyDeleteSo what you’re saying is, Lumburgh fucked her?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't make sense. Cole's only child is an autistic daughter, Mary. No son.
ReplyDeleteThe daughter is an actress. I found this comment "The duo welcomed their daughter, Mary Cole in 1993. After two years, she was diagnosed with autism. As of now, she is pursuing her career in acting." So it appears that Cole's only child blames him for the death of her mother.
ReplyDeleteLet me remind you that both depression and stress kill. We are quick to assume the wife died of suicide because a cause of death wasn't published. Yet it could easily have been something like a heart attack. This couple was in the middle of the divorce process when she died so it could easily have been a physical illness that killed her. Daughter could blame Dad because Mom was so upset/stressed at the time.
ReplyDeleteI think this should be filed under 'no one's effing business' really
ReplyDeleteHe was amazing in "American Gothic" in the 90's (I think), a series created by Sam Raimi & Shawn Cassidy. Too bad it was cancelled. Also great as Christine Baranski love interest in The Good Wife. Wasn't he on Veep as well?
ReplyDeleteHe also played Jeffrey MacDonald, who killed his wife, their unborn baby and two little daughters in a very good tv movie.
ReplyDeleteI wish they still made good tv movies.
Sunkist, cheating on his wife and getting another woman pregnant was a mistake? Turning left when you should've gone straight is a mistake. Giving someone back too much change is a mistake. Having on going sex with someone other than your spouse knowing full well what the consequences/ramifications will or could be isn't a mistake. It's a conscious choice made by a selfish asshole only thinking of himself. He wasn't oblivious to the outcome (not blaming him for the death). Karma usually doesn't have it's hand out for payback over giving someone too much change or a wrong turn.
