Blind Item #7

The recording industry is colluding to lower sales and the value of the estate of this permanent A+ list singer. They want to make things look as if there is very little value so they can convince the heirs to sell everything at a discount.

  1. @Tricia13,I think this is about the time Prince's estate needs to be settled, and his family has no clue how to handle his legacy. The Jackson and Elvis estates made more dead than alive. Plus the industry wants to put the final nail in the coffin,so to speak.

  4. Just for $hits and giggles, how about Aretha?

  5. Aretha, Michael, George or Prince
Their music will never die, generations will be listening to their music because it's timeless and good

  6. This is Aretha Franklin. Kids are at odds with each other, everyone wants a piece of the pie and will settle for pennies on the dollar.

  7. The Aretha guess is a good one,she owed income taxes and the interest is going to pile up. Easy to make people think the estate is worth less than it is.

  8. Oh I hope it's not Prince's estate. He worked so hard to be independent of Hollywood. Go watch "Seven," and listen to his interviews about the ways corporations try to separate artists from their legacy, their publishing, their just reward.

I have been wondering why there's been no new Prince material released out of the vault in a while.

Prince heirs, please, don't think short-term.

  9. ^ Independent of Hollywood and the recording industry. ^

  11. Unfortunately, this could be either Prince or Aretha. Gauloise stated it perfectly with the record industry battling with Prince in life, so it would make sense that they'd do whatever it took to get into vaults and rights and estate. Family has made a jumble of things.
Aretha may have had handwritten notes, but at least she had some form of will. Im hoping it was enough to settle most squabbles...yet, as Hope said, for each to get their share, it probably requires selling things, and greed can be hasty.

Depressing when the death of a vibrant soul is reduced to a bunch of vultures picking bones. Sigh.

  12. That Prince vault is priceless.

Someone needs to do an intervention if his siblings are even contemplating letting that go in any way, shape or form.

Instead, continue Prince's efforts to make Paisley Park its own entity. Help and lead other artists into the new milennium.

  13. There is another gossip site I look at sometimes and I think enty sources stuff from there, due to timing of blinds after posts on this other site

I just noticed yesterday there was a big post started that has almost 1,000 comments on Prince and why his sales are low and all the other artists like MJ, Bowie, Whitney are doing well on streaming and have big sales but not Prince, how he is being forgotten

  14. maybe James Brown. his eldest passed away and the others are fighting in court.

  15. There used to be a TV show called The Will or something like that.

Story after story of famous person dying intestate or with a very poorly thought-out will, or the adult kids contesting the widow/er and wanting it all. Or the widow/er contesting the kids' inheritance.

    Sad, sad stuff.

  16. gauloise - that's a pity and if it continues, will be a tragedy.

I have noticed for a while that the Prince estate is not promoting anything, not releasing anything...and he was the best of all.

Mayte did not get anything but a white elephant mansion and a pink car. She had to sell both. Oh and some clothes Prince left in the closet there. She now has MS. I wish someone would remember her if they are selling up.

  17. They've just released an album by Prince, Originals, featuring the unreleased versions of songs he gave away to other artists.

  18. Prince fought hard to keep his music off YouTube. Now it is all over that site. Why purchase music when you can legally make a copy for your own personal use if you get it from YouTube?

I did my senior thesis on accounting in the recording industry. Artists make the bulk of their money from tours. The company eats the cost for the first album, but after that the artist has to pay for everything out of pocket. TLC found out about this the hard way.

    1. Hi TW. Hope you are feeling better. You are so right and his estate filed a suit against tidal also. I personally think Prince deserves A++.

    2. If Prince is known as only a “singer” I’m truly sad. He’s always been a permanent A list musician /singer being that he plays 3 ..
That said-I think it’s Aretha sadly

    3. “MD”
Wild you are back after all the crazy ..:How was your “move”?

  19. Actually Tricia you are so right with the musician part. Listen to purple rain and that alone proves you right. But Aretha being just A+ is just not right also. Hope you are having a Fabulous weekend. It’s 100 where I am and I’m thinking I deserve to be in the Caribbean.❤️❤️😍😍😘😘always

  21. HOW could they prove to Prince's family his sales or down or they must sale? MJ is actually being boycotted actively by many esp after that recent documentary came out. I am sure they can 'argue' this to the Jacksons.

  22. kiki I read that sales of MJ stuff went up after Leaving Neverland. Who knows what's true though.

  23. I think this is Aretha.

My guess would be Prince, but as with so many of these blinds, it could be so many people. Aretha is a good guess too.

  25. What about Whitney Houston? She didnt write her songs though.

  26. tinydancer61 Prince made no will either.

I can only guess, but, I have noticed, a lot of people find it a jinx to even discuss a will, death, burial plots, anything to do with mortality. They are too fearful or superstitious, so they die leaving their survivors to hash it all out, causing family feuds, and additional stress to their bereaved loved ones.

Everyone should have a will, even if it is a hand written scrap of paper, but get it notarized if you can.

  27. Vextrove - Sinatra made a will and I recall it said that if anyone contested it, they would be cut out entirely. I love that clause. I think all wills should include it, especially wills for the famous and/or wealthy.

The most stable people can lose it or become greedy after a family death. Parents with loving children might be shocked the way they go at each other's throats over baubles.

  28. Sounds like Prince, MJ put his music in the hands of the best music biz lawyers in LA.

  29. I would consider Prince a musician and Aretha a singer. I vote for Aretha.
