Blind Item #3

What very exclusive private celebrity club has this clause in their contract?

In performing its obligations under the Contract, the Seller shall comply with all applicable anti-slavery and human trafficking laws, statutes, regulations and codes from time to time in force including but not limited to the Modern Slavery Act 2015. The Seller represents and warrants that at the date of the Contract neither the Seller nor any of its officers, employees or other persons associated with it: (i) has been convicted of any offence involving slavery and human trafficking; and (ii) to the best of its knowledge, has been or is the subject of any investigation, inquiry or enforcement proceedings by any governmental, administrative or regulatory body regarding any offence or alleged offence of or in connection with slavery and human trafficking. The Seller shall implement due diligence procedures for its subcontractors, and suppliers and other participants in its supply chains, to ensure that there is no slavery or human trafficking in its supply chains. Further, the Seller shall indemnify the Purchaser against any losses, liabilities, damages, costs (including but not limited to legal fees) and expenses incurred by, or awarded against, the Purchaser as a result of any breach of this clause 22.

  11. Burkle, Democrats, Clinton offering Lewinski a job with Revlon. Epstein and his sex slave island. Wouldn't be ironic if Little St. James island becomes a Soho house property. Then Harry and Megs could visit there legit, along with PA.

  14. No Soho. It's easy to get into. Just have enough money.

I am going with The Garrick.

It's much harder to get into and it's mostly actors and the arts who are members. I've been there and it's a whos who more than the Soho. Soho is very millenials first club type place.

It’s online at sohohouse. com website - look at the supplier terms- scroll down to item 22 and they have a clause about Anti-Slavery and Human trafficking

    1. And has a few locations all around. Last time I was at the Soho House is was mostly millenials trying to feel important. The exclusive clubs in the UK are the old ones that still have rules like no women in certain rooms or even in the club at all.

  16. Nice find, SwishyFishy (love your user name!)! It is 100% Soho House. Every single word matches.

  17. filmfanb - it's amazing to me that men-only clubs have existed for centuries w/out blowback and yet the moment Curves opens, men sue to join until the business folds.

Men sued to be in the women-only ROOM at a gym I belonged to. They then took over the machines, or would intimidate women into letting them on ones they were using. It's just a different vibe.

But seriously, why do men want to have it both ways all the time?

    1. I know it's very bizarre. I used to go to the club's all the time in London and maybe I am a younger generation but the idea of it being so restrictive woman members was beyond me. They were allowed as guests but not members.

There is one club I won't mention but it was incredibly gay. Very old world money , everyone had connections. I didn't become a member because I don't come from money and didn't fit in with the posh way of it. I just happened to be dating the right guy.

But it was bizarre that the men would come with their wives and they were not allowed into any rooms aside from the dinning room and the outer room. The men would pop into another room to talk about the boys they had etc...

Clubs in London are looking like they are attempting to be inclusive but really don't want them to be. They existed to get away from the wife so they could have affairs with men. Hence why so many have accommodation.

It's also why Soho and the Groucho are popular with younger people because they are more inclusive.

The old clubs are grand but the it's mostly middle aged men talking about politics and their younge gentlemen friends they "mentor"

  18. Ahh OK so it's about hiding affairs or living a double life. At least that makes some type of sense, even if it's of course, incredibly hypocritical and probably misogynistic on some level too.

I appreciate you took the time to write a very thoughtful reply, thank you.

  19. The poor wives... :/

Even if they knew, what were their other options, I wonder.

  20. I belong to a men only working man social club. Not exclusive but under UK law able to servecheal alcoho!l.
Basically a canteen with TVs for football and horse racing, snooker tables and a dart room, that serves drinks. Pretty basic, very cheap.

Hardly a gay resort as it clientele are almost all late middle aged men from housing estates and it's nickname locally is "The Departure Lounge" and the joke is that the most common phrase heard in it is "'Mon, cough up, a fiver for the widow."

I knew the policy when I joined and happily did so.

If they decided to let women in, I could not give a fuck, why not, but it's a private non profit club, so basically if you don't like the rules you can go fuck up a rope.

As awful as it may sound to today's panty wetting, always offended millennial, sometimes you just want to drink and swear at the TV without your significant other being around.

If anyplace wants to be women only?

Great, go ahead, I'll back it 100%, do whatever it is you want to do, tampon parties, cat collecting classes, flower arranging, bitching 101, I neither know nor give a fuck, fire away ladies.

Not everyone wants to be 'on' all the time. Not everyone actually gives a shiteing fuck what anyone else does, believe it or not.

  22. Vic I never said all men care or object if a woman wants a woman only club, gym, whatever.

It's the PITA ones who sue about it so they can go where they're not invited.

Like you said no one wants to be on all the time.

Whether the woman is down on her looks, or gets hit on too often or her own taste, or somewhere in between, it's nice to escape the male gaze once in a while.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I frankly don't care about men-only either, with these exceptions: if it's used for business meetings and women can't go in when they want; or there are no women-only clubs allowed at all, but men-only clubs are.

I think it's good if people can go to their separate corner once in a while so to speak.

The tizzy about posh men-only clubs/groups was largely because it was a way to keep women out of deals/perpetuate the glass ceiling.

Is the Grove still men-only btw?

Although I'm of the opinion if we all know about it, it's not that "secret" any more & somewhere else is.

  24. Sorry, Samantha, don't get me wrong, those noodle armed fuckwits who whinge against woman only clubs or places are beneath contempt, regardless of their motive.

Don't want to be part of that, then don't fucking join, but stop ruining it for everybody else. Fascists.

  30. This is meaningless. Every corporation has to put this in now. We are in Canada and had to put in a policy to satisfy the US automotive companies we do business with.

  31. This probably comes from a celebrity with a clothing line. They would wish to ensure that the foreign, generally third world, contractors that actually build the product aren't going to involve them in a public scandal.

  32. The Garrick is OLD SCHOOL like White's, i would not be surprised if it trafficked in small children.

  33. When the new duchess waxed lyrical about Soho House providing the venue for her early assignations with hubby, her hens' weekend and pre-wedding haven, I looked it up and read these clauses with interest. However there were other clauses that described the conditions surrounding selection of "the merchandise" according to the purchaser's stipulations, trialing of the "merchandise" and removal of the "merchandise" from the various sites for offsite trials, the number of times that it was allowed, the length of the trials etc. that I am no longer able to find online.
It made me suspect that the match was a commercial transaction to provide a mate and co-parent and nothing has changed my mind. Finding how very personally involved Soho House consultant Markus Anderson is with the duchess and that British Vogue editor Edward Enninful is a very close friend of his, only strengthens those thoughts.
