What did you tell your high school guidance counselor what you wanted as a career?

  6. Accountant- I had taken two years of “accounting” classes in high school and also excelled at maths. My dream was to work at one of the big firms. Counselor laughed and said I was “too social” to be an accountant. Jokes on her because I ended up marrying a partner at an accounting firm.

  10. I went to a "College Prep" that had no designated counselors. We were divided amongst faculty. I was never asked this question. My senior year was a not a high point for myself or the school.

Pre-med. When I got to college (as pre-med) I realized I wasn't dedicated enough to spend that much time in training. When I thought about being stuck in an office listening to sick people all day I freaked. I literally flipped a coin to decide between pharmacy and nursing. Nursing won the coin toss. Lucky for me as I found I loved nursing. Different faces every day, no two days were ever alike which worked for this Sagittarius who gets bored easily.

  14. I started out as a nursing major. At some point I realized that if I wasn't paying attention or if I made a mistake I could kill someone. I switched to business and ended up getting an MBA. Passed the CPA exam in 1988.

  17. No such thing as a high school counsellor at my alma mater. We had a lot of support at school, not just one discussion about our future careers. Although my future was pretty much mapped out at birth, CLC developed my aptitude in sciences and gave me the confidence to pursue that.

  18. Peace Corps. My guidance counselor was about as worthless as the one who was blasted by the valedictorian the other day.

  26. Sniper. Really. It got me an appointment with the school "counselor" and a call to my parents. Good times.

  27. There were thousands of students in my high school and there are only so many a guidance counselor can talk to... I was not one of them.
