Don't believe the hype. The late night talk show host with the love of drinking and women isn't losing his job. He is the favorite son of the boss.

Jimmy Fallon/Lorne Michaels
He is keeping his job because they don't want another Conan O'Brien type fiasco.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Conan? I always liked his show.
ReplyDeleteConan is still on TBS, isn't he?
ReplyDeleteLorne Michaels's transformation from freshfaced, young, liberal up and comer to the media Godfather he is today is, as Dr. Evil might say, "quite breathtaking, really."
ReplyDeleteBut why Fallon?
ReplyDelete@Ann ,he was fired from the Tonight Show and they had to pay off the huge contract. He seems safe at TBS. But he couldn't work on TV as a show host for a while because of the NBC contract.
ReplyDeleteFallon is pretty popular, and he is talented and likable, if screwed up. But yeah, it isn't like he is a box office cash cow. Maybe he just gets along really well with Lorne. Lorne also probably really. really likes that one of his own ended up sitting on the throne of NBC's legendary cornerstone talk show, so it's probably an ego thing too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Guesser.
ReplyDeleteLorne likes his lightweight losers who aren't going anywhere. (Fallon, Meyers, et. all)
ReplyDeleteMyers and Fallon are his two biggest successes off that show in the last 30 years, next to Tina Fey and maybe Will Ferrell.
ReplyDeleteBeg to differ Do Tell. I would think Chevy Chase, Julia Louis Dreyfuss and John Belushi would be the biggest successes from SNL. Also don't forget the hugely talented Gilda Radner. We lost her way too soon. We have no idea what Radner could have achieved if she had lived.
ReplyDeleteFrom > 30 years ago, Eddie Murphy is a bigger success than all of them. 35 years of consistently leading movie roles post SNL.
DeleteAlso, JLD is a Seinfeld success story. Her 3 years on SNL were forgettable, and didn't make her a household name - Seinfeld did.
Go back and read my post. I said in the last 30 years.
ReplyDeleteAnd Chevy is sort of washed up.
Chevy isn't washed up he's just not politically correct any more. Being PC counts for more than talent in Hollywood today. DM has an article today about how the Chinese will overtake Hollywood in movie production. I also apologize for not paying more attention to the time period you posted. SNL jumped the shark more than two decades ago.
ReplyDeleteChevy's movies, if he even makes any anymore, don't make money. His last big thing was Community. He really isn't "happening" anymore.
ReplyDeleteLorne didn't force him to screw Kathryn Bigelow or Jodi Foster or someone.
ReplyDeleteChevy Chase's success or lack thereof has less to do with his talent and effort and more to do with being a royal dick and pain in the ass to work with.
ReplyDeleteJLD's dad is a billionaire. He made her name you idiots. She got the job on SF because of her DAD
ReplyDeleteFlashy-- Are you saying Jimmy Fallon slept with Kathryn Bigelow and/or Jodi Foster? I missed that! I know about the drinking (the degloved finger still makes me woozy), and the supposed cheating, but Ive never caught the names.
ReplyDeleteLate night hosts are mostly there if you want to fall asleep early. Like hookers working the same corner every night, might be reliable but they're not fresh.
ReplyDeleteBrayson--LOL! That's quite the job description! ROTFL😂
ReplyDeleteA couple of weeks ago Fallon was ‘the closeted late night host....’. So confusing sometimes here.
ReplyDelete@Brayson87 is correct I used to fall asleep easily when I had TV in the bedroom. Watch the beginning to see who was on,try to stay up if something good was on. If not, slept easy. Now I can't sleep, lol.
ReplyDeleteI’ve never had a TV in my bedroom. Supposedly, it’s bad for your sex live.
