This one named singer has been trying for years to find a guy for herself. She always ends up second or third or fourth and then repeatedly cheated on. Now, she is with a woman who has also cheated on her.
@Boldblonde seems plausible as the interview also went into depth about the massive inequality facing women sex symbols who age and refuse to change into sedate little grannies.
I mean, if Cyndi Lauper can keep doing the pink haired punkish weirdo* thing into her 60s, it’s only fair Madonna keeps being Madonna.**
*Idolized Cyndi Lauper as a kid and never really stopped, admittedly. **Theres a long history of men appreciating courtesans who only get wiser and more skilled with age. And until pretty recently, Courtesans were the only non-titled female voices who had any impact on male thought and politics. Mad respect here for successful courtesans of history, TBH.
@Hanniam, Courtesans = upper class whores = yachters. History owes a great debt to yachters or Dubai Porta Potties as they are known today. Yeah I could see that, certainly explains a lot about the world today.
Courtesans and Yachters are different things. Courtesans are actually respected and their opinions matter. They are there, with the men, for years and years. Yachters are easily replaced.
@Brayson: The alleged yachters making their money degrading themselves for perverts are kinda in a different category of sex worker than courtesans. (Who are, of course, still around. Just a little less public in their professional capacity, perhaps.) Success as a courtesan requires a fair amount of social savvy and intelligence. Youth and a hot bod ain’t enough to cut it.
@Boldblonde & Hanniam, Oh thank goodness, I thought courtesans were whores that f*cked guys for money. I didn't realize they were only sharing their wisdom, insight and delightful conversation with discerning men. Wait, so are courtesans actually beards then?
@Brayson: don’t be deliberately obtuse. Might as well say every street corner bookie is a successful Wall Street trader or every McDonalds kitchen worker is a Michelin starred chef.
There’s nothing wrong with women who choose to sell a commodity that’s been in high demand since the beginning of sexual dimorphism. But there are different career paths within sex work and different levels of success.
And historically, the most sought after courtesans were actually valued even more for their insight and company than for sex. Might want to crack some books some time.
One of my fave (if not favorite) book to film is Les Liaisons dangereuses/Dangerous Liasions for that reason. Exquisite job of conveying the era and the dynamism of Courtesans in 18th century France, and how they were sought after for the repartee/wit as much as the xoxoxo. Glenn Close was never better.
@Hanniam, So you're saying courtesans were or weren't whores? Weren't they expected to sexually service men they were not attracted to? I mean you could chose to call a janitor a custodian instead, but they're still both cleaning up shit in the restroom. You may think I'm disrespecting courtesans, but actually I think you're disrespecting whores. Don't whores have conversations with johns? Don't some johns just only want to talk? And who are you to judge someone's level of success in the sex industry? Maybe some whores would prefer some hardcore sex to having to listen to a client prattle on or pretending that a nouveau riche client has good taste in wine or architecture. In a lot of ways, I kind of have more respect for the street hooker than the courtesan. They only sell out their bodies, not their minds too.
@Hanniam, Marilyn Monroe, really, that poor woman? Why because the Kennedy boys used and abused her? They say the only reason Bobby bothered to f*ck her was because John did.
Ah, @Brayson. Do you live on a farm? Because that’s a lot of straw in your replies.
I’m saying there’re a lot of shades of meaning that get left out when every sex worker of every specialty is referred to, along with unpaid women who merely dress sexy, really like sex, or even flirt outrageously, with the minimizing pejorative of “whore.”
Poor Marilyn really did get the short end of a lot of sticks. But that doesn’t mean she might not have also fit the profession. I don’t think the profession exists without at least some members hating the hell out of their work and/or being abused on the job.
Slut shaming, invented by women, is horrible. Calling someone who doesnt take cash for sex a "whore" is equivalent to stolen valor. The label literally needs to be earned.
@Hanniam, Are you insinuating that farmers don't understand whores? Many towns were built on the brothels that farmers and ranchers from the surrounding areas would visit. Not to mention that most of your illustrious courtesans would be expected to be accomplished horseback riders. I'm not sure what you have against farmers, but the ones I've known certainly don't match whatever stereotype you're carrying around. Whore is simple, a financial transaction or barter for sex. Whether they're manipulating upscale johns they've been receiving "gifts" from for years or bending over in an alley for strangers' pocket money, a whore is a whore. It's like arguing a screwdriver isn't a screwdriver. Does it turn screws? Yes? Then it is a screwdriver, regardless of whether it's also ratcheting or electric or whatever "shades of meaning" get left out. That is its purpose.
I tell ya, with all the loon #metoo shit where consent can be rescinded long after the ejaculate is in the sewer, transactional sex is the safest option for a guy. Better to get a misdemeanor for solicitation than a false rape claim ruin yer life.
'History owes a great debt to yachters or "Dubai Porta Potties" as they are known today.' This line may have sunk your ship Brayson, although I (virtually) love you.
Tricia-- yes! Dangerous Liaisons is an excellent, emotionally brutal, movie! Seriously, who DID win the Oscar that year?😕
Another excellent, not as well known movie about courtesans is called Dangerous Beauty. I believe it starred Catherine McCormack (sp?), And came out in early 90s. I haven't seen it in ages, but loved it.
Aren't true Geishas the Japanese equivalent of courtesans? Being a confidant and possessing many culturally valued skills in the Arts are aspects to the role that enhance their significance.
@brayson Women have been having sex for thousands of years with men they are not attracted to for economic viability. There is a wife right now having sex with the husband she is no longer attracted to because its less expensive than divorce. So the benchmark for whoredome is certainly not that transaction. Courtesans were economically viable single women with a voice in government and business who negotiated their own price. It was way better than being a wife. And you could only be single if your dad was rich enough and he let you. We are legal humans now so yachting and dubai portapotty is illegal human trafficking. That is the fundamental difference. @vita Yes! I've had the fortune to see an older geisha and her date at the restaurant I where i used to work. There conversations were always about navigating business relationships. The guy was awkward but well dressed. There was an inn attatched but they didnt stay. It was almost like a mentorship program
@McLurky, You're literally saying that whores are better than wives. And I think you're truly underestimating the influence of wives throughout history. They weren't the timid mice you were taught they were in Women's Studies. Why do I find myself always arguing with a woman that she shouldn't be a whore? You can be single without slinging crotch for cash.
And finally the definition of a whore is prostitute, google it, check a dictionary, etc. The definition of a prostitute in regards to sex work is:
1. a person, in particular a woman, who engages in sexual activity for payment.
Ashanti
ReplyDeleteAfter a certain number of cheaters you've got to think that the person just likes cheaters.
ReplyDeleteOr that they’re socially shy. Cheaters tend to be pretty bold in trying for what they want.
DeleteDo we know who the woman is?
ReplyDeleteNot sure of her name...but she’s been effed over by nelly years and James Harden more recently....
Delete@Tricia: the woman her bf* is cheating on her with? Ashanti can not catch a break, sounds like. Any deets on the woman she’s dating?
Delete*That was fun, autocorrect. Because of course when I type “bf” I really mean “brother” 😂
Salilieh Bey ? at LA Pride with her
Delete@Tricia: sounds very plausible. Thank you!
Delete👍
DeleteTo be different: Madonna just gave an interview about how lonely she got in Portugal trying to do the elite soccer Mom thing.
ReplyDeleteShania
ReplyDeleteI'm with the Madonna guess.

ReplyDelete@Brayson: no effin’ clue about Priyanka. But Marilyn Monroe appears to have fit somewhere on that billing.

Anyone who gets cheated on repeatedly must not pay attention to red flags. Or they’d rather be with a cheater than be alone.
