This is the first time I can remember that this A+/A list mostly movie actor stunk up a movie this badly. Apparently his mind was elsewhere and it showed. Right now it is so bad, it might never see the light of day. Editors have been trying to salvage something usable from it for months.
Brad Pitt/Ad Astra

Isn't this the same website that said Gaga's performance in ASIB was such a disaster they were trying to fix it with reshoots and editing...then the movie becomes a hit and Gaga is nominated for an Oscar. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteRodemary that cooper Gaga version of ASIB was complete and total shit. One of the worst films I’ve ever sceen. It had a phenomenal press budget and therefor nominations and accolades. There were individual decent performances but the file from an editing perspective was disjointed, sloppy and nonsensical. And Gaga can not act to save her life. The only reason why it got as much attention as it did besides it’s press and distribution deal was that the song shallow and honestly aren’t we all over that by now. Let’s face it the movie was fucking awful.
DeleteScheduled to be released in September. Not a great month for movie releases but good enough to get it placed on on demand shortly after.
ReplyDeleteWorse than By The Sea? Anyone involved in that movie owes me two hours of my life back.
ReplyDeleteThis!
DeleteIf it's a project by James Grey, there's no way in hell that there are a lot of "editors" at work. Grey is an arthouse director, whose approach is very personal and distinctive.
ReplyDeletePitt works from time to time with this kind of directors, mostly to get something more interesting and challenging to play. He did The Assassination of Jesse James and Killing them Softly with Andre Dominik. Killing them Softly was a particularly dark movie where little ever happened, but Pitt wanted to be in it anyway. Similarly, the commercial potential for Ad Astra is quite low, but that's also why Pitt accepts doing stuff like Fury or Allied, so he can pay the bills.
TwoDots-- Good Golly, if you find out how to get that refund, please share the info! Oooph, was that slow and weak!
ReplyDeleteHe's been phoning it in for years, and he was never that good of an actor in the first place, so it really shows.
ReplyDeleteI've said it before--BP really is Chad from Burn After Reading. When I hear or see his name, that's what I imagine he is like IRL.

Lol! Semi-tempted to email to see what I get back 🤨
ReplyDeleteAnd vita, right?!! I don’t even think I made it to the end. It was so, so dreary and beyond pretentious, but for no reason)
CHARLTON HESTON: I don't know one actor worth his salt that didn't say at one time or another, "God, I stink!" Hell, I just did a scene out there, first take, I stunk the place up. But, the important thing you must remember, no matter how badly you think you might stink, you must never, ever bust into my dressing room and use my shower! Do you understand me?!
ReplyDeleteThis would be the words of wisdom I’d offer poor Brad if he asked me!
Yeah they'll probably sell it as some art house flick. It's not bad, it's artistic. ;)
ReplyDeleteGood authority tells me Pitt is a wake and bake stoner that keeps the excellence at bay so that he doesn't have to get better with each stink bomb he detonates. Many actors find a "voice" and stick with it because it sells. Raise the bar too high on a picture and the slobs will want that outlier performance assured when the next contract is offered. These dweebs just can't keep it up that long.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't say Streep. Her bag of tricks starved to death decades ago. The problem is we have no clue what a good performance is anymore given the stable of monosyllabic simians that crowd the stage thanks to juiced bloodlines.
I love anything Brad Pitt acts and produces. True visionary.
ReplyDeleteIs that divorce still going? I'd be stuck in "the sunken place" for a hot minute too after all that.
ReplyDelete@Rosemary yes can said her performance was a disaster and they were trying to fix it
