DeleteHer emotional template is based on abuse as a child. She can't engage emotionally unless she's being abused because that's how she developed. That's why perfectly good women who hang around with abusive assholes happen. It's the devil they know. Daddy is to blame. Mother probably has the same problem. Can't get damp unless terrified. So she marries an asshat who then abuses the daughter. That's how asshat engages emotionally. He learned from his abusive father. This goes all the way back to that caveman with the club dragging the cavewoman by the hair.

ReplyDeleteI had a interesting insight that may be relevant here - context - i grew up in a extremely abusive environment, I was forced to raise myself and my siblings when we werent trying to anticipate the next danger.
A little while ago i was in a training course and we were covering the psychological elements of human behaviour. My trainer was saying that people seem to get into the "fight and flight" mode when their usual "relaxed" state was threatened. However with me, my "normal" state is the chaos and danger in my environment that i was used to my "fight and flight" mechanisms get triggered when things are calm. So in my adult life i subconciously sought bad relationships, or toxic situations as that is what i was used to as a child.

ReplyDeleteOT, did anyone read the interview with Anjelica Huston? It sounded like she basically admitted being taken advantage of by people in her dad's circle when she was very young and basically saying that's how life is and that it's nothing to get upset over. I think it's so horrifically tragic that there are women who normalize that sort of thing.

ReplyDeleteLiterally, a lifetime. A friend of mine knocked out her teeth. It was in Kindergarten but still interesting that men getting physical with her has even happened at such a young age..regardless if it was an accident.
