Remember that old SNL skit featuring Alec Baldwin as a Scout Master on camping trips who was a child molester. Well, sometimes truth and fiction intersect. I'm assuming it is fiction that Alec is a child molester. If you know otherwise, let me know. The thing is, this situation is a little different than what you might be expecting. This actress was A list at her peak. Mostly television. She was on a hit network show. She doesn't have any children, but has been known in the past to borrow a niece or nephew and make it seem like their own. Anyway, our actress isn't working, and has instead decided to volunteer for some organizations that deal with troubled youth or youth that have single parents and their kids attend after school programs. There have been rumblings from several of these organizations that our actress is arranging things so she ends up spending one on one time with young female teens or tweens. She mentors them and gives them rides to and from school or the aftercare programs and has been sexually molesting them in the process. No one wants to say anything because she donates a lot of money and she i well known and don't want bad publicity about their organization. The thing is though, the number of teens/tweens molested is approaching a half dozen. Something needs to be done. At least confront her.
i mean wouldnt there be more press for this organization if they speak up and say something. its not "bad press" if theyre calling her out?

ReplyDeleteGeez, I would think these organizations have all sorts of protocols to follow, and the volunteer had all sorts of hoops to jump through (thankfully kids aren't quite as easy access as they used to be). Anyone scared and embarrassed about confronting the celeb, needs to think how terrified and traumatized the victims are every time they see her. You might lose the celeb's money, but you're going to lose your organization altogether and perhaps your own freedom, if law decides your inaction was complicity.

ReplyDeleteJ-- I agree that some organizations struggle to get volunteers. However, most after school programs, most programs with any sort of connection to schools or government funding (even most Sunday School teachers) or anything dealing with access to children, the volunteers are required to watch safety and training videos, sign paperwork and I think most are fingerprinted. Part of all of that for the volunteers and leaders of the organization is that they're supposed to report any signs of neglect/abuse (usually in reference to home, but most definitely from own employee!). The people overlooking this are doing a disservice on so many levels. Someone from the organization needs to at least call in anonymous tip, let it be investigated.

Enty is a lawyer and he does not know that these are criminal allegations of child sexual abuse. At the very least, Child Protective Services has to be called because these organizations are mandated by law to report suspected child abuse. In some jurisdictions, across the country, CPS and the police will work in tandem on sexual abuse cases.

DeleteMost organizations have rules, and protocols for underage children being alone with adults. It does happen, though. Witnessed the art teacher having 5th grade girls alone in his classroom. Reported him immediately to several powers that be. This organization in the blind must be a church group, or something similar that is a private group.
