Your Turn

The last Friday in March seems like a good time for you to plug what you would like to plug whether it is a band, a book, a garage sale, charity or a recipe. Have at it and make sure you provide links so everyone can see.

I just finished Don Winslow's book The Cartel. It is the last of a trilogy that offers a scathing account of America's drug war. Winslow gives us a history of our 50 year war on drugs and how American policies drive the war and lead to the deaths of 100,000s in Mexico and Central America. This trilogy is a work of fiction that is hard to put down but also gives us great insight into how the drug epidemic was started and why it continues today.

Please read it- and start with the first in the series- The Power of the Dog.

  6. Mexican Dynasties on Bravo. The funniest show I've seen on cable in years. That Adan "kid" who doesn't seem to know that he's a terrible singer, the brother and sister you'd swear are sleeping together if he wasn't gay, the washed-up soap star and his hag manager-wife - all hysterical.

  8. Hi all, I have an independent movie I made called "Kathryn Upside Down" its a fun comedy about a young girl who meets her biological father, a plumber, for the first time when a toilet overflows at an upscale garden party. My distributors are Random Media and the Orchard, I wrote, acted in, directed, and produced it. No, I didn't sleep with anyone for anything - lol. Limited marketing dollars here, but it's a great and fun film! I hope you all can check it out it's available on Amazon, YouTube Movies, iTunes, VUDU, FandangoNOW, Redbox on Demand, and Google Play (I think I covered all of them!) Thank you!

  17. Not plugging, but more of a plea...

    My plea to cigarette smokers:

Please, do not flick your cigarette butts out your window when driving and don't put them out in the sand at the beach and leave it there.

The butts take up to 10 years to decompose.

When you toss your cigarette onto the sidewalk -
When you put it out in the sand at the beach & leave it there -
When you flick it out of your car window while driving (not even looking to see if someone behind you is driving a convertible) -
-- you are being rude, ignorant and not environmentally safe.

tl;dr: Cigarette smokers: The earth is NOT your personal ashtray.

  36. This is a recipe I like to make:

    Spicy Thai Peanut Chicken

3-5 lbs. Chicken (whatever you cuts you choose)
1 cup Honey (I use local honey)
1 cup Lower Sodium Soy Sauce
1 cup Peanut Sauce (I have also used fresh ground peanut butter)
3 Limes (you will use the juice from these)
1/3 clove Garlic (I have a handheld garlic press that I use)
Fresh Grated Ginger (It probably comes out to a couple of teaspoons)
1½ tsp Cayenne (or to taste/preference)
1 tsp Salt (or to taste/preference)

    1. In a bowl (I use a larger Pyrex measuring container with a handle and spout for pouring), mix the honey, soy sauce, peanut sauce, juice from limes, garlic, ginger, cayenne and salt until mixed.
    2. Divide you chicken evenly into two Ziploc bags.
    3. Pour marinade evenly into two Ziploc bags with chicken.
    4. Seal bags and put in refrigerator for one hour while flipping over once after 30 minutes. (You can marinade them longer like overnight if you want.)
    5. Pour the contents of each bag into its own 9”x13” glass plan that has been lined with non-stick foil.
    6. Place the two glass pans in a preheated oven set at 350 degrees for 65 minutes.
    7. Take out of the oven and let cool on racks. You will dispose of the marinade.
    8. Enjoy!

Note: This is a very versatile recipe. I originally started with this recipe (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/122166/glazed-chicken-wings/) and just ran with it. I have done the recipe above with fresh mint added.

  38. Boycott liars, sex offenders, etc., and anyone who promotes them. I’ve never seen anything with Smollett, and now I never will, but I’ll also never see anything with Taraji in it as she keeps defending him. And if the rest of the Empire cast defends him, I’ll boycott them as well. Same with Singer, Malek, Spacey, Casey Affleck, the list goes on. Oprah, Gayle King, etc. People say that one person can’t make a difference, but if everybody did it, it would make a huge difference!

I have lost weight- I'm really toned and it is so easy. I can set it up or put it away in 2 minutes and it does a fantastic all over workout. I am now stronger so I'm going to do the Pilates workout (comes with) soon. If you want to buy one go to the website and a rep will chat with you and you can barter for the price you like. I got a fair price- 10 payments and no interest. I love that I can workout at home for under 30 min. You should see my biceps! #SummerBody

CBS did a 48 HRS about her death. My guess has always been young jilted lover who thought she was The One and found about the other men she was balling - I believe she was juggling five men at once. Maybe this has already been made into a blind?

  47. My plug is for a friend who took a few years off to work on his passion project. A comic book, it was released this month and is selling out across North America. It has been getting rave reviews from the Comic world, and I'd bet that it will be on the big screen someday. It's called Little Bird, by Image Comics. It kind of reminded me of the show The 100, if were directed by David Cronenberg. Thank you, I hope you enjoy it.

The paltry $15 that I paypal to them every week is enough for them to walk through the slums on a "bread run"... handing out bread with a dash of condensed milk on it to every kid that comes running up to them.

It's heartbreaking to witness yet so very important. Gaye and Roy from Australia who run it are true saints.

So, ya know. Look here and consider donating. https://thomas-house.org/

    1. ◻️ OKAY NO MORE BEING SHY, HERE GOES NOTHING:

      I wrote a 30,000-word novella, posted here: http://bit.ly/TheFifthWall

I gave Enty a cameo in it! (If you want to see the Enty part, you don’t have to read the whole damn thing: Just to Chapter 3 of “The Fifth Wall” and search for the keyword “bacon” and you’ll find it.) 🥓

It’s meant to be published as a bundle (one novella, one flash fic, one 9-chapter short story) in the style of “Franny & Zooey” (I even named one character Coutellglass).

One of the bonus stories (the B-sides) is a 999-word flash fiction entitled “The Vegan” which was inspired by a CDAN thread where some commenters here discussed food delivery services (this was back when I still gave Jussie Smollett the benefit of the doubt). So I’d like to thank the community here for inspiring me. 🖤

Also, thank you so much Enty for the plug thread (I’m not just promoting, I’m posting this here to claim the premise as mine as I’ve been screwed over by plagiarisers in the past and I’m taking this is a “witness measure”, if that makes sense). Time-stamped on the last Friday of March.

      Love and lots of bacon!

This house bill effectively limits low cost veterinarian care to only people enrolled in state or federal aid programs.
Those who aren't on any aid programs would not be able to take advantage of the low cost clinics that have been providing a low cost alternative for pet care.
Contact the committee members listed in the post and let them that this is a huge step backwards for animal care in texas.

  56. Glad you posted that, zerooptions. Slowly over the years, pet ownership has become very expensive. Adopting a cat from my local shelter cost me a few hundred dollars in fees/shots, etc, and every trip to the vet costs $100+ lately. No wonder the shelters are overflowing.

  58. @thorne You're not kidding. And if your pet has health issues, forget it. People - please consider getting pet health insurance, even if it feels like a reach. The initial cost of our traumatic event (see plug below) demonstrates why, but even a routine problem care visit can equal the cost of a year’s worth of health insurance.

    My plug:
Our papillon Piper was badly injured at the end of November, when he was attacked by our neighbor’s dog. He suffered a broken sternum, broken ribs and nerve damage. While it’s now some months later, our family is still grappling with the finances that resulted from the best – and only – choice available to us when he was hurt. To that end, I created a GoFundMe campaign for a portion of these expenses. We would not impose on anyone, but should you feel inclined, I invite you to read his story at Help for Piper
