Blind Items Revealed #1

March 1, 2019

Yesterday afternoon, this CEO announced changes which would result in thousands of workers losing their jobs.  At the time, the CEO was not at his company's offices.  He was at his mansion a few hundred miles away.  He wouldn't even tell the press how many workers were being affected.  The guy just doesn't care about people.

  1. It's like the Carvana setup. Closing Tesla dealerships isn't totally crazy given all the shady laws that prevent car companies from operating their own direct dealerships. Right now in the U.S. you can't get any kind of new car without going through some sleazy local dealership. I wonder about test drives though.

  3. This sounds more like you being bitter than Musk being "uncaring".

  7. The changes primarily effect store employees. I don’t think the retail employees spread across the globe actually care exactly where Musk took a media call discussing store closures. It’s not like the CEO can personally go from store to store and break the news in person, and announcing layoffs in one department (sales) to another (manufacturing) first would be rather odd.

  8. Elon is in a VERY fucked financial position, likely of his own creation.

I'm sure he does not WANT to cut people's jobs but frankly at this point I doubt he has a choice.

Does nobody else see this as a sad business result/decision that could not be avoided due to prior mismanagement? Am I the only one with perspective?

  9. I don't agree with Enty & Mr Hedge's reasons for shorting Tesla, however, the abrupt departures of C-suite level executives after 2-3 months is giant red flag. People at that level do not leave until after 1 year because that's how long it takes to vest options and grants. If it's a amicable departure, they usually have a "consulting" deal with the company so they can continue to vest options. I noticed there was no consulting deal in place when the GC & CAO resigned.

Also, I think they should keep some showrooms because I never wanted to buy a Tesla until I saw the Model S up close. I didn't buy one, but I've heard this from several current owners as well.

  11. The only automobile company in North America that has more orders than vehicles it can ship and people think Tesla should wave the white flag. Meanwhile all the others are shutting down their sedan lines because they can't sell. And Musk is the auto exec that should be judged harshly?
Great analysis folks, "I don't think I've ever seen such a mixture of reason and bullshit" -Salem
