Today's Blind Items - Pretty Baby

This director is A list. He has always pushed the edge when it comes to his films. Many of his films star this A list mostly movie actor. The director had an idea for a remake of Pretty Baby but in a more industrial setting. He wanted to talk to this foreign born A-/B+ list mostly television actress about the role. She is very underage but is totally on board with it and has no problems with the nude scenes or being partially nude in others. At the meeting she asked the director if he wanted to see her naked right then. He said no. She said she didn't mind and it wouldn't be the first time. She also told him she had been with other directors. Not actual intercourse but she knew how to make men happy. The director was disturbed to say the least. Enough so that he no longer is thinking about doing any kind of remake/reboot of it.

  6. Paul D Anderson/ DDL

    Bravo to the director!!

  7. Anyway it sounds like the director is OK...

  8. I believe both Scorsese and DiCaprio would be referred to as A+ or permanent A list. And I doubt that Scorsese is one of the 'good guys', isn't he pretty chummy with de Niro?

    Burton is a good guess.

    ReplyDelete
  9. What is a more industrial setting? Who makes films with unusual settings?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Wouldn't Millie have been listed as "almost television"?

    ReplyDelete
  11. jfc thank god he declined. but the other pricks 😡

  12. Scorsese has a teenage daughter, so he would make sense. I'm glad there are some people in Hollywood with morals!

    ReplyDelete
  13. David Lynch for the director? Could "actor" refer to a female? Laura Dern?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Normalized pedophilia culture, welcome to Hollywood.

  15. I'm going Fassy for the actor and Steve McQueen for the director, even though they aren't listed as foreign-born.

  16. I like the Fincher/Pitt guess. Millie Bobby Brown for the actress.

  18. Paul Schrader strikes me as the kind of director that would fit this story.

    ReplyDelete
  19. On second thought I don't see Fincher making this kind of pervy bullsh!t movie.

  20. Somebody has morals in Hollyweird, well that's a first..
    Good for them

    ReplyDelete
  21. All right, the director could be anybody. And we can't toss up MBB as the default for every blind.
Aside from MBB, who else fits the "very underage" "foreign born A-/B+ list mostly television actress" description?

at least theres a good guy out there.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Lynch and Kyle McLachlan? Would not be surprised that DL is one of the good guys. Kyle too.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Why would anyone but a perv want to remake Pretty Baby?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Honestly, I think it's supposed to be MBB. It's always the same people who have blinds written about them. I feel like Lindsay Lohan pops up here every single fucking day.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Can anyone find anything on a effort to remake Pretty Baby?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Who thinks a Pretty Baby remake makes good business sense these days?
Yeah let’s blame change of mind on the actress.
    It’s a BAD idea

    ReplyDelete
  28. Kevin Smith/Ben Affleck/MBB

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ima go with David Lynch / Kyle McLaughlin and MBB
I don't see anyone else who would have been far enough "out there" to think they could do Pretty Baby today.

Whoever it is - kudos to them for turning underage skeev down.

    ReplyDelete
  30. You know anything that could disturb David Lynch would be especially cringeworthy.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Lars von Trier / works a lot with Stellan Skarsgård

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lars von Trier is a good guess, although he's such a pig he probably would have couched the actress right there, maybe that was his limit.

    ReplyDelete
  33. He probably thought it was a set up.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I still think Fincher/Pitt. I know he was searching for a new film since WWZ was delayed due to the Manson biopic. Fincher to me has always made edgy movies but he never struck me as a perv. My only other option would be McQueen and Fassbender but I am not sure if McQueen has hit the A list title yet. Again, makes very edgy movies.

Knowing this and do nothing about it? I think this is edgy and a (little?) over the top. Also you act like there aren't more underage actresses out there. I could name some, but I barely remember names.

    ReplyDelete
  37. That's got to be unnerving, casting for a movie about an underage whore and having an actual one come on to him. Must have felt like the devil reaching out to him. "And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you."

    ReplyDelete
  38. MOST of Hollywood are good people. The pervs seem to be many because they are in power - the pervs all keep each other in positions of influence for obvious reasons.

  39. Ron Howard and Tom Hanks or Michael Keaton.

  42. Agree with all who think a Pretty Baby remake is a spectacularly awful idea in this social climate.

    @Brayson

Lynch is a surprisingly straight arrow guy, IRL. Happy childhood, no major bumps in the road and he is a total professional. He has spoken, rarely, about where his film universe comes from and it seems to stem from the fears of losing the well ordered universe to incomprehensible malevolent powers.

Now Cronenberg, that one strikes me as being a freak in public and private.

  43. I’m going with PTA. He seems like a good egg.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Industrial setting? I wonder what steel mill they will be filming in?

    ReplyDelete
  45. @Plot, Lynch seems like a nice guy, but he definitely notices the darkness in everyday little things and big things too. I'm just saying if you see David Lynch running down the street, screaming, you'd better start running too because there's probably some Lovecraftian horror coming from that direction. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  46. @Brayson, its actually the people who write romantic novels who are most likely to be dangerous, whereas writers who deal in horrors or thrillers will be better in real life!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Geez, can you imagine what life is like for a young girl who’s so used to being abused, she goes ahead & tries to initiate? It is heartbreaking. I’m glad it freaked out the director, because it should’ve, but come on, a remake of Pretty Baby?!?! Gross.

    ReplyDelete
  48. If the intent is to redo Pretty Baby complete with an underage actress and nudity, than a why the praise? Because he refused a sex act from the actress? He still wants to put it out there. I don't think current law would allow it,it would be done with an older actress.

    ReplyDelete
  49. As much as I would love for this to be Lynch, motherfucker signed that letter to free Polanski back in the day along with every great director over the fast fifty years. I remember the rumor that Harvey pressured them all, but that's still no excuse.

Burton wouldn't have the balls to do this project, so I say PTA, great guy and the best in his field. Even though I still feel iffy that Weinstein produced The Master.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Also Lynch right now is making a movie about Robert Johnson

    ReplyDelete
  51. Doubt it's Lynch for the blind, he's just fun to discuss. It's tough to say who would have the bad judgment to try to remake that Pretty Baby movie.

    ReplyDelete
  52. @Kelli
Why is everyone supposing that child actors and actresses having it bad? Also why everyone believes a blind instantly like that? Reading this made me uncomfortable and unsettling, but I highly doubt this happened like it's written.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yeah, first thought was that if this director isn’t a pedo then why was he considering a remake of Pretty Baby? It panders to the pedo market and continues the disturbing, insidious attempt by Hollywood to normalise pedophilia. He may not be a pedophile himself, but he was still considering catering to them. Also, why are we congratulating and praising this guy for not raping a child? That’s how it should be! It’s sad that we’ve become so used to hearing about child abuse in the entertainment industry that we think someone is a good guy just for turning down sexual advances from an exploited child.

    ReplyDelete
  54. @Sal
What director and see my comment above.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Scorsese, Ron Howard, aren't described as doing things on the edge. David Lynch or Tim Burton are edgier and do odd outside the bounds fare. And Burton works with Depp. I don't see this being a mainstream director as it would be the kiss of death for a mainstream career but could work for someone known to delve in his storytelling.

    ReplyDelete
  56. The Pretty Baby ripoff called Paradise starring Phoebe Cates and Wiilie Aames was bad too because it's very possible she was under aged when it was made, but not when it was released --1982. Brooke was about 12 when Pretty Baby was done, but with full approval from mama Shields.

    ReplyDelete
  57. MBB clearly needs to change the company she keeps. Going into over 21 bars with so called adults should be a red flag for everyone concerned. Also she apparently finds the lead character in Netflix stalker drama "You" to be extremely romantic!

    ReplyDelete
  58. This is kind of a kindness blind for the director, thank God there’s still some good ones left

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think Lars von Trier is the best guess so far. It seems like a project that is in part intended as an effort to shock, and it's hard to imagine most any other director not suffering career-damaging scorn for this idea.

Like, I can imagine Lars thinking it amusing, or not caring (in a self-destructive sense), that people would be openly asking if he's a pedo for pursuing such a project. And then the young actress hits on him and the distressing reality of it hits.

    ReplyDelete
  60. This may not be PC, but I don't care. Millie is not pretty enough for this part.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Woody Allen for Director?

    ReplyDelete
  62. For some reason, I'm getting an Adrian Lyne vibe from this project. He has other past work about sexual taboos (9 1/2 Weeks, Fatal Attraction, Unfaithful...) He may explore these themes, but haven't heard any bad rumors regarding any impropriety. I think he may actually be one of the few good guys in the industry.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I call bullshit.
Noone in their right mind would remake this in todays snowflake culture.

    ReplyDelete
  64. That girl needs a good dose of self respect.
    Dont cheapen yourself so much.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I hope it's BS. So sad

    ReplyDelete
  66. I believe pedos should be either castrated or put down. I also believe that the entertainment industry has issues in this regard, although this phenomenon is widespread and extends to many 'cultures' and even entire religions.

Having said that, there is undoubtedly such a thing as a 'Little Lolita'. And I'm not talking about girls who have had hard lives, had been abused and conditioned to behave a certain way. I am talking about the girl I went to school with, who had a standard upbringing in a safe environment, and chose a 30-year old man to be her boyfriend, when she was 15. And not only did she brag about him to the entire school, she loved every second of the attention it was giving her, despite us other kids shaking our heads in disgust and her poor mother (who worked in the school's administration) coming to school in the morning with red eyes.

It's like the Sophia Ritchie stories: she's getting pimped out by Scott Disick. But is he putting a gun to her head? Is he forcing her? Could she walk away while telling him to fuck off?

At a certain point we have to acknowledge the fact that teenagers do know the difference between right and wrong, it's just that some choose wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Could it be Mel Gibson and the actor he always uses is himself?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Maybe not a scene for scene remake, but a reimagining where she kicks ass. We can but hope.

    ReplyDelete
  69. @The John

You make some very good points.
If the actress is about 12, like Shields was during production of Pretty Baby, it makes it totally impossible for a director to talk with the actress at this point. Nude scenes for a minor have to be approved by the parents or legal guardians first. Remember the stuff about Thora Birch on the set of American Beauty. The parents have to be involved at every step of the process. That's the law. And Enty is supposed to be a fucking entertainment lawyer...

Then, there's no way a famous director would be able to direct such a project. In 1978, it was already very controversial. Today, it would get an even bigger backlash, and no major production company would handle this or the next projects by the same director. And Pretty Baby was actually no masterpiece to begin with.

Finally, Millie Bobby Brown? Offering to go to second or third base with other directors? Please...
Brown is already a big name due to Stranger Things and she doesn't need that to get cast in other TV shows or films. Then, she hasn't even made her film debut, as Godzilla: King of Monsters will only be released this summer. So, apart from Stranger Things and another TV show named Intruders, she has barely any other credit on IMDb, and none of them are for projects where she was cast by a director (she minor supporting parts). The idea of Millie Bobby Brown, who now has two careers with Stranger Things and the Godzilla franchise willing to be the first famous underage actress in 15 years to shoot a nude scene for an arthouse project is so stupid that it's no surprise it works like gangbusters here...

  70. @Angela
Absolutely nice comment, I applaude you and the Father in Heaven shall bless you. This community seems to be fixed on her for some reason. You made such valid points even I hadn't in my mind. And she's really not a big name, barely people know her or Stranger Things, or at least care about this series.
I think some blinds are just want to clickbait and intentionally controverse.

    ReplyDelete
  71. If the blind is real, the girl has to be some wannabe big time actress from Disney/Nickelodeon, which is a gigantic casting couch disguised as a studio.

    ReplyDelete
  72. @The John

I had indeed forgotten the most weird thing in this blind item.

The director in this story would be incredibly naive. He wants to remake a film that got a HUGE backlash in 1978, as it handled graphically child prostitution. He doesn't actually consider that it would receive even more of a backlash today.
He directly discusses nude and sex scenes with a child actress that must be 12 or 14 at most, apparently at their first meeting.
At this point, the child actress candidly mentions that she's ready to disrobe in front of him and that she's already given other directors some hand jobs or similar stuff.
And it's only then that the director has an epiphany and finds out that the industry is rotten, up to the point he gives up on his passion project, that was about how damaging child prostitution is in our society.

How much of an idiot does somebody need to be to wait until this point to realize that? You're so much comfortable with the issue that you can graphically discuss the nude scenes you have in mind with a tween girl you have just met, but you're confused and disgusted when the girl explains that other directors have already seen her in the nude and that she knows how to make them happy.

That's what implausible in this blind. The edgy A list director who wants to make a film about the corruption of innocence but gets disturbed when he finds out that a very underage girl is already corrupted...

    ReplyDelete
  73. I don't understand why MBB is so damn eager to please EVERYONE and to make sure a spectacle of herself. She is incredibly popular right now. She has the fame she needs if she wants to make herself a long-lasting, profitable career. Beyond her naive age, I don't see why she has to try SO HARD. Her parents are obviously awful. But its sad to see her destroy her life. She's Lohan Part 2

    ReplyDelete
  74. I think this blind is fake.

    ReplyDelete
  75. @Angela
Now where you say it. Even the good ones, with less to no power, like Gibson and Wood now about the rotten core of Hell-Yid-Wood.
    >given other directors some hand jobs or similar stuff
    >when the girl explains that other directors have already seen her in the nude and that she knows how to make them happy
Okay, holy moly, I didn't knew that was implied. And this rather sounds now even edgier too me than before.
    @Angela@TellMeLies
TML got some points, although I don't actually she think she acts like you mentioned, because you said
    >She is incredibly popular right now
    >She has the fame she needs if she wants to make herself a long-lasting, profitable career
    @Angela@TellMeLies@Oscar
Unbelievable. We were all having a good time and then this guy had to come along and tell us the truth and how things actually are.

  76. If somebody is in a position of power in the industry, like Millie Bobby Brown definitely is, as the lead in a franchise movie and its sequel (Godzilla vs. Kong is already in production, even if Godzilla: King of Monsters is yet to be released) plus the star of the most popular show Netflix has ever had, she's definitely surrounded by agents, managers and publicists, outside of her family (which are apparently terrible people) before someone can talk to her about any new project.
And it would make no sense for her entourage to let her damage her image and brand by doing some nudity in a creepy arthouse film at around 14 or 15. Or for her to let any director see her in the nude when she doesn't need that to get offers for major projects.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think it`s Paul Thoman Anderson and the actor is John C Riley? Or Phoenix? Hoffman RIP? - My bet is on John C Riley. He`s A list in my book any way.

But why would you want to even deal with such young actresses? I don`t blame him (Big fan of all his work BTW) or anything, he did nothing wrong, sounds like a straight up guy,but why no take a realy young-looking 18 year old?
This goes to all the directors BTW. Stop casting these ultra young girls to all these sexual roles!

    ReplyDelete
  78. @Angela
You're right. She's kinda popular and made a pile of money to make her family happy and stable. She's not desperate for anything. The guesses here are terrible and like it's already been said, it's fake.
I just wonder what Enty thought about writing that in the first place or what his little birds told him from their eavedroppings.

"if you see David Lynch running down the street, screaming, you'd better start running too because there's probably some Lovecraftian horror coming from that direction. ;)"

  80. This sounds like PTA, who is an incredible director with a boatload of kids with Maya Rudolph. I can't see him being dumb enough to do redo Pretty Baby. He was about eight with that movie first came out, but he is a fan of 70s movies. Remember Jody Foster and Taxi Driver? Pretty Baby was not as good, but there were movies with underage prostitution. By the way, Pretty Baby is based on a true story.

Problem I have with MBB is she's so popular right now she can walk into any role that fits her age range. This idea she'd need to impress directors just doesn't fit.
