ReplyDeleteI always wonder if there's a way to measure similarity of two songs, and maybe some kind of test that gives you an estimate of the probability of such a similarity happening by chance? I mean, is there some kind of 'plagiarism detecting software' for music?
ReplyDeleteDecades and decades songs have been ripped off from other artistes, sometimes words mostly the music and rhythm. Nothing new. Samples get used in raps, gotta ask permission first but there they are all the time. You don't ask your ass gets sued.
ReplyDeleteThe computer programs to test for plagiarism are still far behind the humans hired by music production houses to listen for plagiarism. It won't be long, but talented people (with perfect pitch and instantaneous musical recall) are still used for now.
ReplyDeleteIts been standard in rap and hip hop for decades.. but its not stealing, its just sampling ..right? happens in alot in all forms of music,just not in the sheer volume that rap has lifted.
