Your Turn
With all of the picks made yesterday, some of my favorites didn't even make the list. Just Friends, Family Stone, Family Man, Four Christmases, Night Before and there was one vote for Fred Claus. I think you made great choices, I was just shocked no one picked any of these anywhere on their list.
These were the top 7 yesterday. I also added the original Christmas Carol because it got 11 votes and Muppets Christmas Carol got 5 votes which would put it with 16 votes. Today, we narrow it down to the top 6 from this list.

I don't like Vacation. I've never been able to get through A Christmas Story. I've never seen Home Alone.
Elf and Four Christmases almost made my list yesterday but I've only seen both of them once. But since Elf is here and I liked it well enough I will vote for it.
Love Actually isn't a movie. It's a torture.
I may be the only human left on Earth that has never seen A Christmas Story
ReplyDeleteOB, nope. I've seen bits and pieces but never the whole thing.
DeleteCan't believe no one said "Trading Places."
ReplyDeleteEddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd and Don Ameche! Trifecta of comedy.
That is our go-to Christmas holiday movie. Every time I watch it, I notice something new - it gets funnier each time.

OB, no, you're not. I never watched it either. Could never get through It's A Wonderful Life either. AT this point it's been parodied so many times and is so ingrained all over the place that I don't have the patience for it.
ReplyDeleteI missed this yesterday. Trading Places should definitely be top 3.
ReplyDeleteJust Friends is a horrible movie. I don't know how anyone likes it. Ryan Reynolds' character is the epitome of 'Nice Guy Syndrome' where he's actually a major asshole.
I know! He is horrible and I don’t like him as an actor. That’s why I would usually never admit it. I guess I just relate to the whole leaving home, moving to LA, coming home for the holidays and seeing the old flame. It is a highly problematic movie in many ways. I still have a sweet spot for it. Amy Smart and Anna Faris in that movie are basically the two sides of me. I know it’s terrible I just can’t help it.

I don't really think of movies like Love, Actually, Die Hard and Home Alone as "Christmas movies." Just because a movie takes place at Christmastime, to me doesn't make it a Christmas movie.
ReplyDeleteI was the one who voted for Fred Claus, mainly due to the last 10 minutes, which were surprisingly beautiful and made me cry.
But as far as best of all time, It's a Wonderful Life just cannot be topped.
Christmas Vacation and Elf

Elf is my favorite, but since we do Christmas Eve, my immediate little family has a tradition of going out to a Chinese restaurant on Christmas Day a la A Christmas Story
Top- Christmas vacation. Watch it several times each Xmas, never gets old. Second- it’s a wonderful life, which tanked in original box office as it wasn’t marketed as a Xmas movie and came out in the summer (I am sure that guy got fired). Love Jimmy Stewart. I love the Bishops Wife (black and white version) and White Christmas too.
ReplyDeleteNever watched a Christmas Story and have not want to do so.
You say the original version of A Christmas Carol- I am sure you are probably talking about the 1939 version, which is the best and. Wonderful classic (sorry Jim Carey). But that wasn’t the original. There was a 1910 Silent short film for Edison. Just want to give props to the silent era, the true artists.
I forgot about The Family Stone, totally engaging.
ReplyDeleteI'm still the only one who recommends Noel.
Watch it. It's heartfelt, excellent, excellent actors, and Robin Williams.
Didn't vote originally because really don't have a fave Christmas movie. A Christmas Story turned me on to Jean Shepard who wrote the book. Very witty.
ReplyDeleteOB, I haven't either!
ReplyDeleteMy picks are:
It's a Wonderful Life
Love Actually
A Christmas Carol

These lists put me in the mood for a Christmas movie so I watched White Christmas last night which I had previously never seen.
ReplyDeleteI have to say, next year this film will be in my top 7. I was in tears at the start, laughed through most of the middle and sobbing again for the ending.
Highly recommend.
