Four For Friday - Bad Band Behavior

Beginning Monday will be Reader Photos time. Each weekday I will post your photo in Random Photos leading up to Reveal Day on January 1st. If you want your photo posted here, then email it to entlawyer90210@yahoo.com

So, every so often I like to do a Bad Band Behavior post and as usual, these are ones I have personally witnessed.

#1 - This foreign born one named singer who should have stayed with that band we all love and hate him for leaving as well as for many other things once got angry at a venue manager and urinated all over his dressing room. It was an astonishing amount of urine and he got it everywhere. There is nothing that could probably have been saved furniture wise.

#2 - This brotherly duo who are still celebrities but, unlike two other groups that burst on the scene at the same time are not making music people want to listen to, used to have a game they played on tour. Breast Bingo. They had faceless pictures of all kinds of breasts on these poster sized bingo cards. They then would get fans to flash or let the band/crew members take photos. Whoever got matching breasts would then make a mark. The vote to allow the match had to be a majority. Sometimes the games would last one night and sometimes they would take a week.

#3 - The lead singer of this ska group which should have been two words even though they made it one and was the inspiration for probably the most famous ska band of all time which all of you know, used to carry a huge, thick, heavy wood walking stick/cane thing. One time a fan got up on stage and he took that walking stick/cane thing and jut started wailing on the guy for no reason. Just beating the crap out of him. I think people were so in shock that it took a good 30 seconds of blows before someone jumped in and stopped him.

#4 - This one named former A list heavy metal band who had their prime in the 90's were an actual metal band. Nothing that said hair metal. They were closer to death metal. Long before NXIVM did the branding thing, these guys were doing it. If they had sex with a groupie they would always want to brand her so other bands would know she had already been with someone from this band. They had a fairly successful rate. About half of the women said yes.

      Loved them

    3. Definitely sublime. RIP Bradley

    4. +1. My hubby said he was one of the nicest guys(used to hang out with them when they were just jamming at small places in Longbeach(I think), CA

    5. I was never into ska but loved him and still heartbroken over his death. I hope his son is doing well.

    6. Same. They really were special. Great sound.

  4. For #4, geez, weren't they all one named at that time?

  5. 3-UB40? All one word..

  6. 4-Slayer or Megadeth.

  7. Morrissey is hate inducing so I agree with it’s him.

  8. What, everyone hates Morrissey? I think i have entered a parallel universe.

    1. He's big in Mexico. No kidding. Still has plenty of fans while the rest of the band members are nowhere to be seen. I liked the guitar player. Killer riffs.

  9. I hope #4 isnt Pantera, I liked Dimebag Darrell (rip)

  10. I loved the Smiths back in the 80s, but here in America very few people had ever heard of them. I saw them in small venues. I do like Morrissey for that guess.

Fishbone for ska group influencing No Doubt (sigh).

    1. I think you're right on the fishbone guess... You can clearly see the walking stick being whirled around as he sings... With all the energy and strobe lighting happening, I can totally see how no one would know what was going on for half a minute.

  12. How about The Pietasters for the ska band.

    ReplyDelete
  13. +1 Tricia for Fishbone

  14. No one loved Morrissey more than me back when but I'd punch him in the face now.

  15. It pains me to no end that No Doubt is considered a ska band. One, they simply aren't. And two, they took one of the greatest songs of all time ("It's My Life"), and destroyed it in their cover version.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I love "It's My Life" when it was done by Talk Talk. But I do think No Doubt is the most famous "ska" band of all time. I put "ska" because the Selecter would kick No Doubt's ass.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Same for Talk Talk and the original.
I have a visceral (not pleasant) reaction to the other and can’t listen

  17. 2) The Gallagher Bros?

    ReplyDelete
  18. @ Krab - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE The Selecter. "Celebrate The Bullet".

I'm a huge Specials fan as well. I loved that whole Two-Tone era. I still have a well worn out English Beat T-shirt that I refuse to throw away.

  19. Hands up anyone who would be shocked that a Slipknot groupie would say yes to being branded.

  20. 2. Drew & Nick Lachey, 98 Degrees

Two similar groups that are still popular being Backstreet Boys & N'Sync.

    1. I dunno? Think Sara maybe got it with the Lacheys...
Or if GC maybe it’s Fall Down Boy

      Delete
    2. Still think it’s GC. Drew pings my gaydar

      Delete
    3. @MD, Even if Drew is gay, this is about the whole group. The brothers are a hint to figuring the group.
Anyway, he still could have been involved, especially if closeted.

Mainly, I just noticed Enty's use of "group" that made me think of them over an actual "band". Of course, it could be totally arbitrary.

      Delete
  24. Bite your tongue MD! lol, they were big way before Good Charlotte

    ReplyDelete
  25. I don't think 4 is Pantera.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sorry Brayson It was high school for me. It’s all a blur lol.

  27. Could the brother band be Nelson? They now perform as a Ricky Nelson tribute band.

    1. @Don, thank you! I remember that walking stick now that I see it.

But my question is, who was beating who? Angelo beat the fan? Or the fan snatched the stick and beat him? Damn Enty grammar.

  29. I'd argue Slipknot were not big in the 90's.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Maybe the Kemp Bros of Spandau Ballet, they are both successful actors now, and "duo" as in are twins.

Duran Duran came at the same time and are still making music,

    ReplyDelete
  31. #3 Mighty Mighty Bosstones?

After 12 hours of deep meditation, Sting finally became one with the Universal Fountain of Eternal P*ss, becoming its holy channel to man on earth. Then he just flopped it out and let rip. Those who witnessed it say their lives were henceforth showered with golden blessings.

I don't know if it is actually Sting, but I'd like to believe it happened like this.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Kiss thought I read that decades ago..

    ReplyDelete
  34. Surely Madness is the biggest Ska band?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Slayer branding the lightning bolt makes the most sense.

None of the other metal bands named would have a distinctive enough mark to leave that other bands would know.

It's not like they were branding the full band name on them

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Slipknot and Queensryche have distinct logos.

      Delete
  36. @MD, haha high school is a blur for many.

    ReplyDelete
  37. @defending champ maybe the M in metallica they are such shill band so I can see it being them

    ReplyDelete
  38. #4 has to be Slayer. They were thrash but a huge influence on the emergence of death metal. Plus, their fans are the only ones crazy enough to allow themselves to be branded.

Fishbone is probably #3. I seem to recall that Angelo Moore would have a cane sometimes

    ReplyDelete
  39. n1 is STING .... We all THE POLICE fans hated the fact that he left the band and some still hate him ..

n2.Sounds like SPANDAU BALLET ... the Kemp brothers, they dont make music people really listen to nowadays and bands from same time DURAN DURAN - STILL on tour and making albums- A-HA ALSO making albums and in tours ...

3.Old ska group is MADNESS ... the one with the angry leader no idea

    4. if it s megadeth it would be interesting considering the blind where it said Dave Mustaine s daughter got abused on tour so her dad got revenge by beating the shit of the guy

    ReplyDelete
  40. I heard that Slayer even branded Helen Mirren

    ReplyDelete
  41. I didn't think the Police broke up because Sting wanted to leave, but rather that he and couldn't stand working together anymore. And what else would we hate Sting for?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I hate Sting just for being Sting, but most don't. Also his solo work blows.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Like many have said before, I could see Morrissey for #1. Pretty strict diet, I could see him being supremely hydrated. They probably could have salvaged more from that room, given he was probably just passing water.

    ReplyDelete
  44. @Lurky, from what I've heard, EVERYONE has branded Helen Mirren.

I think it's the Good Charlotte annoyances for 2 and Slayer for 4.

    ReplyDelete
  45. 1. Is totally Morrissey. He gets mad and cancels shows for random BS excuses (hence the universal hate). I bet after he pissed on the furniture, he walked.

I still love his music though.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anonymous1:11 PM

The pisser could be Sting. Maybe with all the Yoga training he can control his piss that well...comes in handy at his age...since he was 10 years too old to be a "punk".

    ReplyDelete
  47. #4 Man of War. They are a true medal band. While other bands play, Man of war kills.

    ReplyDelete
  48. 1. I'll go along with Sting
    2. ?
    3. Even though Ent doesn't say foreign-born, I'll go with The English Beat which then dropped the English, and I'll say Ranking Roger. I *think* he used to have a stick with him on stage early on, but I could be misremembering. (Might not be a real word but for now it is.)

    4. Metallica

    ReplyDelete
  49. I had a giggle out of this. I especially like boob bingo. Too fun.

    ReplyDelete
  50. 3. Specials? On their album covers, they don't say The Specials. It's just Specials.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Metallica wasn't death metal like in the 90s. Remember Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters. Megadeth and slayer were more successful in the 80s.this sounds like Pantera, Anselmo yelled most of the time. Slipknot first album was 1999.
3 is Fishbone, Angelo Moore had the cane and a hat he wore. Ps they are awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  52. @joshg g

To me, Slayer hit their prime in the early 90's. Seasons in the Abyss was released in 1990 and Decade of Aggression was 1991.

    ReplyDelete
  53. 4 sounds really familiar. Like something I may have heard on Metal Sludge a long time ago. I just can't place it.

I doubt it is Metallica. Aren't they permanent A or A+? They aren't former anything. Don't they still sell out venues? And they aren't really close to death metal.Do people literally think bands like Poison and Slaughter when they think Metal?

Megadeth was big in the 90s when they got a lot of mainstream attention for Countdown to Extinction. That would also be the only period where they had a stable lineup. Otherwise it's MegaDave and people MegaDave deems worthy to play with him for five minutes.

Is that was the "death metal" thing is supposed to mean? Megadeth?

I dunno. I find that guess to be kind of off but I don't know why. I may be wrong. Wish I could remember what I had heard.

It's not going to be revealed as something that isn't really metal like Marilyn Manson is it?

But I don't think it's Pantera. He pissed off Vinnie with his groupie stuff. You'd think Rex would have mentioned branding if it happened. Weren't they better known for playing too many pranks on bands they toured with? Isn't that what happened during the tour with White Zombie?

Some people mentioned Slipknot. I can't remember when they were big because I never liked them.

But I know I have heard about this before somewhere. The origin of the story and who it was just escapes me.

    1. @Adrastia maybe you read on "Donna's Ho-Bag" on metal sludge? Some old posts from the noughties are still archived there... I tried to find something about branding on RockGroupie voy forum as well but no such luck either.

  54. That shit band Blackwater is my guess.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I absolutely can no longer stomach ska. I liked Specials and English Beat in the 80s but not too much, never bought their albums but wouldn't FF if they were on a mixtape. I am very snobbish about music. No Sublime, not ever. They might've been nice boys but just NO.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Lurky has been dead to me for many years defiling Queen Helen Mirren in such disrespectful ways. I still like Low Key but shes pushing it. Now you too orangesoda? 😥

    ReplyDelete
  57. I can;t imagine Terry Hall flipping out and beating someone with a cane .

It sounds Fishbone, influencing No Doubt, both so cal bands. "No Doubt would help kickstart a ska revival that owed just as much to Fishbone as it did the Specials and Madness."

    ReplyDelete
  58. #2 the Scottish twins the Proclaimers, no one likes their music anymore cause they are now a christian music act. :p

    ReplyDelete
  59. CRADLE OF FILTH .... I can definetely see Dani Filth branding his groupies

    ReplyDelete
  60. @Gauloise.

I didn't like them because the supported Hibs.

    ReplyDelete
  61. +1 Tricia and I was thinking they influenced the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

    ReplyDelete
  62. 1 - Sting or Morrissey.
2 - Gallagher's or maybe Kings of Leon.
    3 - Fishbone.

  63. Please never, ever, ever say anything negative about Pantera, Enty.
    Loves. Of. My. Life.
    Dime Bag Dave; poor soul.

  64. #4 All of the Death Metal bands. Groupies are trash.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Who the f*** are these American non-entities? Ska bands = madness, the specials, the beat, the selector, bad manners etc...UB40 were a reggae band. I do like fishbone though they were more than just ska.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Morrissey was an asshole even back in the 80's it's just that people used to make excuses for him. Recently he just flat out came out as a racist douche and lost plenty of former defenders. Thank god i always preferred the Cure and Depeche Mode. Wasn't the lead singer of Pantera phil gay? dimebag was known as a sweetheart, possibly rex or vinnie?

    ReplyDelete
  67. The blind item says it's close to death metal so it's obviously a Thrash Metal band. Probably one of the Big Four of thrash (anthrax, metallica, megadeth, slayer). I listen mainly to traditional death and doom metal since the 90s, never heard of this branding rumour.
Also if it's Slayer that's fucked up, it sort of goes against this article about fan tattoos, maybe with groupies is different?

I said Madness as the inspiration for the other band!!

Ans Morisey is a hypocrite cause the bachteria that made him cancell his tour when he was in southamerica IS ONLY IN MEAT ...

    ReplyDelete
  69. I know a punk band called Germs used to brand their fans with cigarretes mark that represented their circle logo. never heard of any metl band doing that

    ReplyDelete
  70. A list heavy metal band closer to death metal than hair metal who had their prime in the 90's.

Sounds like Slayer. I don't think Metallica or Megadeth is anywhere close to death metal.
