Unless they are just doing amazing, this money laundering streaming service is going to get rid of every property they can from a certain company.
Netflix/Marvel
why would they?
ReplyDeleteBecause Marvel/Disney are starting their own streaming service which will feature mega budget superhero stuff that the Netflix shows with their ultra low plodding storylines and low budgets just can’t compete with. Plus there’s the dirty tricks Marvel get up to to throw a wrench in the works of anyone who has Marvel IP’s. Marvel completely cancelled Fantastic Four as a comic so’s not to lend support to the Fox movies. X-Men (film rights owned by Fox) were pushed aside for a while in the comics in favor of Inhumans. I mean, I get it, why support your competition?
DeleteI’ll bet the viewing numbers for the most recent Netflix superhero shows (Daredevil S3/Jessica Jones S2/Luke Cage S2/Iron Fist S2/Defenders) were garbage. Netflix are making the right choice in getting out of the superhero game before what they have had no worth.
Isnt it logical, though? Disney will start their own streaming service next year so it makes sense for them to have all its shows on its own streaming service!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a logical business move by Disney.
ReplyDeleteI think the point Enty is making is that Netflix has been throwing cash at losers for years, but the Marvel properties are just sort of doing *OK*--so why is Netflix not showing the same patience with Marvel properties ?
ReplyDeleteBecause Disney probably won't be cutting them a deal because they need their own paying customers when their service starts and the Marvel stuff will bring them in.
ReplyDeleteAnyone see the new Netflix series to be produced by the Obamas? It's based on Michael Lewis' book The Fifth Risk, about problems within the first months of the Trump administration.
ReplyDeleteNot sure that's going to be all that interesting by the time the series is ready for streaming - 18 months from now? - but whatever.
Anyway, so much for the Obamas' stated purpose with Netflix: "Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix — we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”
I thought that meant "Hamilton"-like programming. Oh well.
@Nutty
ReplyDeleteSo was the fault with the Obamas or with your assumptions?
Well, I suppose I shouldn't have trusted their optimistic original statement. But I trusted Barack twice and was disappointed. I guess I got one more for the road.
ReplyDeleteNope, only Trump hit pieces.
ReplyDeleteI think the implication here is that Netflix can't hide much in Marvel cash flows (Disney probably keeps tight control), so unless they're profitable in real life it's not worth it to them.
ReplyDeleteNot my personal belief, just what I think Enty is getting at.
Did you expect Obama to be a king and change everything? He tried valiantly to make this country a better place. Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan were having none of it.
ReplyDeleteMake no mistake, I'm no fan of what Obama did to whistle blowers, surveillance of citizens, and his timidity in dealing with Congress or international bullies or, fucking hell, Big Banking. I still think he aimed for what was best for the country but the only things he could gain bipartisan support for were really horrible.
Lol... Obama never "lead" the country... He just showed up when and where he was told, and flapped his lips and batted his eyes. The sheeple did the rest!!
DeleteHe "tried valiently"?
ReplyDeleteHe talked pretty and looked good, which took a lot of people like me for suckers.
But he never twisted arms in Congress - he was too good for that - and didn't build up his party at the state or local level.
Too busy Slow Jammin' the news.
I don't think history will be kind to him.
I voted for Obama twice but now realize he was a total and complete fraud.
ReplyDelete@Plot, whats your beef with big banks? I love them, since I work in one. They pay well, have very nice facilities and really smart people from all over the world! The work is challenging although sometimes it gets monotonous, and its a merit based workplace, although some ass kissing never hurt anyone!
ReplyDeleteWhere did Hitler get the money to do what he did? He went to the bank. Who funds both sides of every war and conflict in the world and turns a profit on the deaths of millions? The bank. If you think banks and the banking industry isn’t harmful to us and our world, you a truly naive.
DeleteHa... yepthatsme. Don't get confused though. I worked in mid/upper mgmt @ the big banks for a couple years (5, 10, 15, 20, 35? ... It's hard to count). Take their money, refuse their dogma, and bail b4 you become numb to their complicity in their destruction of the fabric of an honest society
DeleteObama was elected 10 years ago today
ReplyDelete@Jamie, please share the substitute for banking and financial industry with the rest of us too! I am a bit partial coz i did my MBA by education loan which was from a big bank also i draw my salary from one! Would you rather go back to the days of the money lenders?
ReplyDeleteIt's called... Restraint, control of obsessions and use CASH.
DeleteI know it's a foreign concept for most... But try it you may like it. It's very refreshing!!
@yep
ReplyDeleteYou aren't the only one around here who has worked for banks. Just saying. Nor are you the only valid opinion on banks and their practices.
At another place, at another time, we can discuss the way banks participate in the decline of the middle class while making the enormous loans they've given out to the wealthy and corporations magically evaporate (while making you and I, and our taxes, pay for their losses and their stupidity.)
If Obama had prosecuted ONE banker, or ONE investment house, that would have done a lot to restore our faith in the system. As it is - how can anyone wonder that we citizens feel like no one can be trusted?
@Jamie
The current capitalism of the banking industry is also destroying the environment and leveraging our health, our very lives, for the continuous quarterly profits of shareholders (and mostly the big shareholders.)
Obama is no saint but he sure is a hell of a lot better that what we have now.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteI'm not a Trump fanactic. However, he seems to be be a "doer" and not a "talker"... Which is something VERY new to American Politics. I say, let him shake some things up and then we can all grade him after his term is finished.
DeleteBe open minded... He's an asshat for sure, but he loves America and is SO egotistical that his positive legacy is what consumes his every thought.
Prediction: Trump will be here for two terms AND Ivanka will be the 1st Female American President.
LOVE how all the people claiming to have voted and supported Obama here ignore the actions of Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell that account for the majority of the problems during the Obama presidency.
ReplyDeleteYeah, sure, you guys sure voted for Obama.
Keep touting that. You're still liars proven by your unwillingness to EVER criticize a Reicher pol. Seig!
@Plot and @Jamie, well by that logic yours are also not the only relevant opinions on banking and capitalism! Btw, i have benefited from both and as they given me enough resources and opportunities to fulfill my dreams and enjoy my life! So yeah, i am kind of biased! You have your opinions and I have mine, but i agree with you on the topic that the regulatory authorities completely failed to do the job and there are thirty people in the financial industry too, just like everywhere else! But the reality is the banking and financial services industries are not going anywhere!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure q lot of drug dealers say exactly the same.
DeleteThe whole bailouts of banks was a massive fraud perpetrated against the population of many different countries.
Who gained from all this?
Certainly not the poor...again.
@yep
ReplyDeleteSo you think we want to destroy banking? Why? Who suggested that?
Yes, capitalism is destroying the planet, no matter how much you personally benefit. If your personal condition is all you judge systems by, then any would have done for you, as long as you feel good under that system. People have succeeded and happily attained their dreams under dictatorships, too. That has no bearing on the benefits, corruptions or detriments of dictatorships - that some are satisfied.
I was asking for alternatives to banking, since you guys seem pretty sure that its evil, but as expected a lot of rhetoric and very little to the point discussion! Banking employs millions of people globally, pays billions in taxes and funds a lot of infrastructure projects! How would you replace that system! Brazilian people just elected a far right leader to run their country, so by your definition democracy is also destroying the planet, coz it delivered a person with whom you dont agree to the highest office of his country!
ReplyDelete@Unknown, about the drug dealer comment, actually there is a very simple solution, if people stop taking illegal drugs, drug dealers will be destroyed! You think thats possible? And if the banks were not bailed out then currency would become devalued, the country would have gone into recession and then who do you think would have borne the maximum brunt?
ReplyDeleteSpoiler alert.... Their was a pretty decent sized recession recently caused by banking excess. If you are in Brazil with a steady paycheck from a financial institution, then maybe you have been insulated.
DeleteBut, don't think you work for a charity or community service organization... Big banks are a sponge and will continually take more than they ever give to society.
Take their salary, refuse their bullshit.... And fuck them before you leave.
Anyways, its Monday morning here, so got to go to work now, in one of the big banks! You guys have a nice day!
ReplyDeleteNo matter who we vote for- politicians only care about themselves and their agenda. Normal folk can rot in hell.
ReplyDeleteAnyone went to watch the nutcracker? Is it any good?
@yep
ReplyDelete" Brazilian people just elected a far right leader to run their country, so by your definition democracy is also destroying the planet, coz it delivered a person with whom you dont agree to the highest office of his country! "
What? This doesn't make much sense.
", if people stop taking illegal drugs, drug dealers will be destroyed!"
That would be Big Pharma, then. The majority of addicts are taking completely legal, Big Pharma manufactured, drugs. They may not be attaining their drugs legally but Big Pharma is producing them.
So, that being the case, you are FOR destroying a whole industry that employs hundreds of thousands of people, right?
OH!!! And the illegal drug trade employs tens of thousands of people, as well, who used that money to support their families and build their own kind of infrastructure. So, like Big Banks, you support them based on your requirements, correct?

ReplyDeleteIs Netflix even still relevant? I cut my cord to cable a good while ago... I did Netflix for a minute but honestly they have a pretty crappy selection of content. I cancelled them last year and most ppl I speak to know have/are doing the same. Outside of some decent documentaries, they mostly just have the Nicholas Cage collection of 250 unwatchable movies... Worthless!!!
ReplyDeleteBoo-good idea for cdan politics 'coz I'd avoid it like the plague.
ReplyDelete@Boo
ReplyDeleteThe website will be launched after they arrest Don Henley and the politicians who were accomplices in the murder of a minor. You know, the other girl who was there will talk about it just before the primaries. We just don't what electoral year it will be.
Or when Christopher Nolan releases his secret classy porn movie.
Whatever comes first.
Eisenhower Marvel. Disney is starting their own streaming service. No big deal.
ReplyDeleteWhat the blind means is that the Marvel shows are flunking in ratings/views.
ReplyDeleteWord is that the shows produced for the Disney streaming service will be actually part of the MCU, with higher production values and some of the cast (Tom Hiddleston or Elizabeth Olsen), as they will be handled by Marvel Studios.
ReplyDeleteCurrent Netflix shows are produced by Marvel Television, which is controlled by Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter, while Kevin Feige, who's in charge of Marvel Studios, reports directly to Disney. That's why the current shows aren't allowed to even namedrop Iron Man or Captain America. Marvel Television gets access to the second tier of characters, while Feige has control of the bigger assets and doesn't want to share them.
There were many reports about it long before October 20...
Also, there has been an extensive report in the Wall Street Journal that explains that Netflix is basically cancelling a lot of stuff that they license from studios so they can focus on original programming where they own all the rights. It just results in better financial terms from them, while they needed the help of the studios to develop their first shows.

Once again, not a secret at all, and the Marvel announcements are just part of a bigger strategy that may or may not work.
There's always DC and Dark Horse to fall back on.
ReplyDeleteAll I want is for Netflix to get more classic films and start being a bit easier to navigate on PC. My desktop doesn't have a touch screen and it's hard to scroll through all the choices because they aren't listed in a format that's desktop friendly. Stop making me scroll horizontally through everything. Just bring up the vertical categories right away. There's no customization options at all. I can't even build my own profile with quick access to my favorite genres and movies. It's so annoying for like... It's $11 something now right? Getting a little too expensive for my budget.
ReplyDeleteYou've hit the nail on the head there, Adrastia. The Netflix interface SUCKS! Why do I have to scroll through animation and family friendly, neither of which I'm interested in at all? Why is my previously viewed so hard to find because Netflix must show me all it's original programming first and always (with clips playing during everything I scroll through, ugh.) What happened to the viewer reviews, which I trust more than Netflix's super duper algorithms. Why do the recommendations seem to push the inferior portions of their catalogue?
ReplyDeleteAnd the biggest issue is exactly as you stated - the scrolling is now incredibly difficult, because (my husband tells me) Netflix wants us all to participate in verbal commands to Alexa or Siri and no longer browse anything. Alternatively, Netflix is committed to touch screens and easing people away from keyboards and remotes.
I'm feeling a wee bit manipulated by Netflix into buying products I sure as shit do not want.
Your idea of vertical categories makes a lot of sense. Making them smaller, too, would be nice. Oh that customizing the interface is such a dream! Let me see what I WANT to see, not what Netflix seeks to foist on me.
For those that want options and a decent interface there is an alternative. However, it requires streaming over the internet and NOT cable.... It's called Showbox!!!
ReplyDeleteIs it 100% legal?.... IDK
However, I do know that the actors, directors, producers, studios, corporations, AND politicians in your market are NOT.... so why should you feel any guilt to be moderately entertained in your own home?
@J F
ReplyDeleteOooh, I'm going to look into this Showbox thing.
I feel no guilt whatsoever exploring my choices when Big Corps are trying to fuck me.
Big Banks and other financial institutions are trying to eliminate cash altogether. The anonymity of cash is a plague to them. We should all be using cash more often.
Can anybody tell me if it would be wise to buy or buy-then-sell Disney and/or Netflix shares/stocks in light of this information??
ReplyDeleteStock market is not based on fundimental ideology (at least currently)... It is a place to park money for those that have to based upon their stated business plan. They buy and sell at the whim of a trader or board of directors.
DeletePlay with the insiders with your own cash if you wish to gamble.
Donny loves no one but himself. Maybe he would sort-of, kind-of, maybe LIKE America if it was only filled with white people of sterling white descent. But our multicultural country with it's vast array of interests and legacies - no Trump has no love for that America and that is what we are.
ReplyDeleteYes, there are Nazis in the White House. Go talk to Stephen Miller who composes Donny's dogma, or Bannon who wrote the ideology or Sanders who thinks this is a Xtian only country. Gott mit Uns!
Trump is definitely a self-absorbed narcissistic asshat!!
ReplyDeleteBut, he is a "meglomaniac" hell bent on being written into history as the greatest thing since toilet paper.
He may end up being iconic.... Or he may just end up being remembered as a self enriching despot... Time will tell.
In the meantime, those like Maxine Waters who have already proved their worthlessness, need to get THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY!!
Not to mention... Donny is definitely not racist when it comes to those he sleeps with. Sure, he has a type (Eastern European blondes.... NOT American by any means) but I guarantee you he wouldn't kick Sofia Vergara (Columbian) outta bed
Delete"He may end up being iconic.... Or he may just end up being remembered as a self enriching despot... Time will tell"
ReplyDeleteTime has already told. Donny has violated the emollients clause the case against him is moving forward in the courts. His children have leveraged their White House positions to have their huge personal debts paid off by Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Russia.
"Donny is definitely not racist when it comes to those he sleeps with."
Southern slave owners weren't racist by sleeping with their slaves then, I guess.
Bullshit. It doesn't matter who Donny has sex with, his policies, his dogma, his call to the faithful is all as racist as anything any Fascist ever said.
Lol... Call me when he's behind bars!
DeleteOnly way Donny is being locked up is if he is Hillary's cellmate
@plot
ReplyDeleteOur nation's leader doesn't necessarily need to set the tone for our culture (that is up to the public at large). They need to "Lead" and negotiate on a world level to give a level playing field.
Trump is NOT the ultimate solution, but maybe he was what was needed to wake up the complacent sheeple
"Our nation's leader doesn't necessarily need to set the tone for our culture"
ReplyDeleteThis one proves to me that we live in a very racist and unaccepting country. That's how it goes when you elect racists for president. I urge others, when I'm out of the country, to deal with the USA as a racist and fascist nation. There is not other interpretation of Trump being president, sorry, but you can't wiggle out of that.
"Call me when he's behind bars! "
Violations of the emollients clause doesn't lead to prison time. You should know this. But no, can't give up Hillary. My my, so tired, so boring, so stupid.
If you believe that the personal thoughts of the President of your country defines YOU???? Then I'm not sure that anything is going to matter to you other than your own personal internal dialogue.
ReplyDeleteThere is a very real and serious movement in our society currently... 1/2 is standing firm in the corruption of the past and the other 1/2 is looking forward ANYTHING that will move us forward to a better place...
Take your Clinton/Bush two decades of corruption/fraud and stick it up your nasty cunt. If you're out of the country?... Awesome, seal the borders cause you don't deserve to have a voice
"If you believe that the personal thoughts of the President of your country defines YOU"
ReplyDeleteThey don't define me, but they do define our nation. That's the way it is. If you don't like it, don't vote for a racist.
"There is a very real and serious movement in our society currently"
Yep, and one very real ambition of the GOP was thwarted tonight, absolutely annihilated. They are now further away from being able to call a Constitutional Convention. Know what that is? I didn't until 6 years ago. If 3/4 of the governors are of one party (it might be 2/3, I forget) then those governors can called a convention to CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION. Now, guess which party has had this as a goal since the 90s. Come on, you know which one and you know what they want to do with it. All the leading GOP think tanks in DC made it a priority in their party recommendations.
Guess what the GOP lost tonight?
A VERY VERY serious moment, yes sir.
And now a Democratic House will save Medicare, Obamacare, Social Security AND they will have the power to independently investigate and subpoena, AND they have the power to protect the Mueller investigation.
"your nasty cun"
oh my. Getting a little worked up, I see. Hard night for a Reicher.
"If you're out of the country"
Not right now, but often I am.
