    The protection only is in play during crimes during the marriage. If it was before she can be compelled to testify.

    @plot @timebob it all depends on the state statute since spousal immunity/privilege is not defined by the constitution...if it's a federal case it applies even if the crime occurred prior to the blessed nuptial bliss...in state cases it again...depends on state statute and may or may not apply if the crime was prior to the union
