This former A+ list mostly movie actor who is going through some rough patches the past few years attended an out of country bachelor party where none of the strippers or "entertainment" was anywhere near legal age here in the US.
Shane McGowan looked really cool until all of a sudden he just...didn't. And once he didn't the fall was fast, obvious and horrifying. Drugs chic is a precarious lifestyle position and the edge is precipitous.
God, I hate that fucking Christmas song. And the fucke Pogues in general.
And now this blind has remnided me that that goddamn awful song will soon be played over and over and fucking over again on the Christawful '5 song playlist'shityy local FM music station that the radio in work is tuned to by the morons I work with.
'Bag of chips' would be the best British description for those Halloween teeth. Fries just doesn't describe the matter accurately. Denmark is hellish expensive. Perhaps they chose schoolgirls for their reduced hourly rate [end sarcasm].
Kirsty was wonderful singer. Her version of the Ray Davies Kinks' song, "(Thank you for the) Days" is in my personal top ten. And in the list of one of the few cover versions to top the original. And the original was great too.
Her death (murder?) was also as sketchy as fuck and one of the reasons I've vowed never to visit Mexico....not that I will ever get the chance anyway.
Shane is a genius of a musician and a gentleman. But go ahead and make fun of his looks. Or even better, insinuate that he was in any way involved with young teenage strippers.
@Lonely Bastard - for me, it's Kirsty singing "Miss Otis Regrets" from Red, Hot and Blue, along with the brilliant "Walking Down Madison". And I love "In These Shoes".
Speaking of covers better than a very good original (hey Enty - great "Your Turn" for one day) - my vote goes to Alana Davis' "Thirty Two Flavors". I love Ani DeFranco's original, byt Alana's voice takes that song somewhere special.
The problem with junkie rock stars and actors is that they're supposed to die when they're young and beautiful. I'm sure that was McGowan and Depp's plan, but it didn't work out that way.
Depp was in Denmark for McGowan's wedding. It's not unheard of for grooms to party with strippers before their wedding. Just because Denmark's AOC is low doesn't mean the strippers were 15.
In the UK, the AOC is 16. I've been to a few parties where there were strippers and they were all in their twenties.
'When he answered the door to me after having missed his flight to the United States to open for Bob Dylan, and there was blood pouring out of his mouth because he had eaten a Beach Boys record, it looked as though it was the 100 tabs of acid that were the problem and not the gin and tonic.'
Depp?
ReplyDeleteAnd his friend Shane McGowan(The Powues) wedding?
DeleteAgree with Tricia. Depp was at Shane McGowan's wedding recently. So I guess underage Irish strippers?

DeleteIt was Denmark!
DeleteWow... would not have thought that
That's niche work there, Tricia. Catering to the wooden footwear fetish crowd.
ReplyDeleteHa I said Dutch clogs butvreakized that’s Holland... maybe Denmark has a version though?!
DeleteMany countries around Netherlands have clogs; Sweden Denmark Norway...
DeleteOmg that guy from the pogues looks like he legally died a few years back and is just an inhabitant of that body. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteDon't do *too many* drugs kids
They specialize in brooding strippers with mother issues.
ReplyDelete*Digs out vinyl copy of 'rum, sodomy and the lash'* god the Pogues were f***ing good.
ReplyDeleteThey were awesome.

ReplyDeleteShane hasn't looked good since the 90s.
ReplyDeleteBut "Fairytale Of New York" might be the greatest Christmas song since the Carpenter's "Merry Christmas, Darling".
Its nice he married her before he died because that day looks close.
ReplyDeleteGod, I hate that fucking Christmas song.

Christmas depression starts today.
Wow the age of consent in Denmark is 15, WTF?
ReplyDeleteIn Brazil is 14. Gross!

ReplyDeleteHey, but, at least there will be that Wings' song. You know the "Simply Drinking All of the Christmas Wine" one
ReplyDeleteyou'd think enty would give a clue or two about shane, if this is indeed about depp and shane
ReplyDeleteFun fact: bestiality was legal in Denmark til 2015.
ReplyDeleteShane McGowan aka 'piano teeth'

ReplyDeleteHe has summer teeth. Some are here, some are there. Or, in his case, some are rattling around in the bottom of a whiskey bottle.

DeleteThe world doesn't make sense when Kirsty MacColl is dead but Shane MacGowan is alive and kicking.
ReplyDeleteIf it's legal there, oh well. Not blindworthy.
ReplyDelete@Sara - Kirsty's death still gives me shivers. What a tragic way to pass.
ReplyDeleteapparently shane stopped depp in the middle of singing "rainy night in soho."

ReplyDeleteDon't worry CDAN, the proper authorities already know and might actually do something unlike the LAPD.
@Low Key I think it is legal in Sweden.
ReplyDeleteIn Brazil it is not 14. It is 18.

I suppose it's slightly better than going to Japan, where the age of consent is thirteen.
