Blind Items Revealed #5

The producers of this long running franchise don't care at all about the cloud swirling around the head of this foreign born former superhero. They want to cast him as their next replacement.

James Bond has ALWAYS been problematic. The books are both marvelous and terrible (Ian Fleming was a RAGING xenophobe and misogynist, among other things). The films are marvelous and terrible (formulaic, sexist, one dimensional)
ReplyDeleteNone of this will change, no matter what actor portrays Bond. Cavill is just another in a long line of possibilities.
My fave is problematic.
Can't they just end Bond it's such a outdated series. New ideas seem to be rare these days.
ReplyDeleteI knew it!
ReplyDeleteI'd like a less well-known 007, like the way Daniel Craig came to the roll. Pierce Brosnan was okay, but he'll always be Remington Steele to me and I mean no disrespect (Brosnan's best movie role is the one where he plays the bitter hitman with Greg Kinnear, but he was very good in "The Foreigner," too).
ReplyDeleteAs a lifelong Bond fan. I guess this choice would be a decent one given the other rumors I've heard. I really like Daniel Craig but always felt he was a bit too small for the role. I consider Sean Connery the only true Bond and all other were inferior until Craig came to play the role. Cavill fits the more physical look I associated with Bond. Lets see it.
ReplyDeleteChase- I'm with you. It's Connery, with Craig in distant 2nd, followed by Brosnan, Lazenby, and Dalton, then at the end- Moore.
ReplyDeleteThey keep recycling old James Bond films, why keep making them?
ReplyDeleteSir Roger Moore is gone, Sean Connery aint' gonna do it either.
Give this up.
For europeans? they are long awaited here. It is a classic. Like the queen or victorian style tea.
DeleteCavill has no charisma.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's why I don't find him attractive, Sara... there is definitely something about him any way.
DeleteYou need to watch Man From UNCLE. He oozes charisma in that film.
DeleteNah. I think he just looks like a typical pretty muscled boy. That's it. He was so wooden thar u might as well get a block of wood to stand in for him. It's cheaper.
DeleteCavill will look so dashing in those suits. Hope he is in tip top shape!
ReplyDeleteCavill is snoresome. I'd like Brit actor James Norton
ReplyDeleteHe read theology at Cambridge, looks boring, walks too slowly, and has zero sex appeal. Made for TV
DeleteI don't know, good casting decisions from these producers, seems doubtful. Pretty sure they'll want another blonde aryan for their Mission Impossible knock off movies.
ReplyDelete+1 Janet, I'd rather see more of those movies than Bonds.
ReplyDelete"Spy Who Loved Me" and "For Your Eyes Only" are pretty great movies. The rest of the Moore Bonds are hit'n'miss.
ReplyDeleteObviously Connery is the definitive 007, but Craig reinvented the role and is a solid #2.
After that it depends on your tastes. The first Dalton movie is pretty good, opening sequence especially, the second one not. Brosnan made one really good one ("Goldeneye"), one pretty good one (TND), one decent entry (DAD) and one of the worst (TWINE). Lazenby's one entry is a weird mix but the good stuff is great. Moore ran the gamut from a couple of the best to one of the worst ("View to a Kill").
If you were to rank them, I think you have to give legacy and length some value and emphasize the better films over the weaker ones.
1- Sean Connery
2- Daniel Craig
3- Roger Moore
4- Pierce Brosnan
5- Timothy Dalton
6- George Lazenby
7- David Niven
7a- Woody Allen
James bond cant be into high school seniors. Once this icky fact gets out he wont be hired
ReplyDeleteBlonde Bond, Brosnan, Angry Bond, Sleazy Bond, Aussie Bond, Classic Bond. Not really sure why Brosnan never got a nickname.
ReplyDeleteBen Barnes from The Punisher would be perfect.
ReplyDelete+1 DDonna... Yes, a lesser known Bond please! I enjoyed Daniel immensely as Bond.
ReplyDeleteAnd still waiting to see if Pedo Cavill is proven to be true. Hard to root for him these days knowing this might be a possibility. Ew.
Also... anyone else think Aaron Taylor-Johnson might be a good fit? By the time it gets done, he will be a little older. And GOTDAMN he is sexy!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes!! Aaron Taylor Johnson would be good !!!
DeleteOnly Idris Elba.
ReplyDeleteGod no... that weird cone head and pug eyes.
DeleteMatthew Goode is obviously perfect for Bond. Why isn’t anyone else even being discussed.
ReplyDelete@hortensia I will also accept Idris.
DeleteThere's no base for this blind.
ReplyDeleteHenry Cavill was actually vetoed out by Barbara Broccoli, while director Martin Campbell wanted to cast him as Bond in Casino Royale. Seriously. It's been documented for years.
Then, the franchise was until today in the middle of picking a replacement director for Danny Boyle and deciding when production would start. And there's still a ton of decisions to take for Bond 25. The name of the guy who would star in Bond 26 around 2023 or 2024 is the last thing they have in mind now.
He was vetoed because he was too young at the time. But that was over a decade ago.
DeleteAre you kidding? They remade Jumanji. They remade Rollerball. They remade pretty much every movie ever made at this point. Bond is hardly unique in that regard. And “Skyfall” was a fantastic movie, so they are capable of making great films.
ReplyDeleteThat should be a winner---he can't act to save his life, thankfully, that job doesn't particularly require it.
ReplyDeleteCavill is boring. I want someone more intriguing and charismatic. I like Tom Hiddleston for it.
ReplyDeletetoo femenine for that
DeleteJoel Kinnaman for next bond.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who puts craig over moore is utterly deluded. Moore has soo much charm, he made a ridiculous character, warm and lovable.
ReplyDeleteChase- I'm with you. It's Connery, with Craig in distant 2nd, followed by Brosnan, Lazenby, and Dalton, then at the end- Moore.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with this, except Craig is not so distant for me. I love him as Bond. he brings something to the part that excites me. I can't quite put my finger on what it is...sex appeal maybe. I really don't know this Cavill guy. If he is Bond, I'll give him a chance. I just hope they keep the gritty aspect to the character that has been there with Craig. Lazenby wasn't a great actor, but I love his film anyway. It's fun to watch until it makes me cry at the end.
Cavill is boring but Taylor Johnson would be a terrible Bond. He doesn't have the look nor the charisma. Hardy is the only one I would have seen successfully taking over but since he has those crap Venom movies to do and won't be doing Bond, I'm not interested in whoever else takes over the role.
ReplyDeleteLoved him in Man from Uncle so I think this would be a great choice.
