This violent, drug addicted, permanent A list musician from a permanent A list group which is defunct is back in the studio. He says the only reason he is recording again is to hook up with other women while his significant other is not around.
Tommy Lee is in the studio with Nikki Sixx. Some people thought it meant Motley Crue is back together. But it may have something to do with the soundtrack for The Dirt. Vince Neil and Mick Mars don't seem to be involved. Mick Mars was supposed to do a record with John Corabi. So far nothing has materialized.
Tommy Lee's been having a twitter battle with his son Brandon over things Tommy said about Pamela Anderson, who is Brandon's mother. Brandon claims years of abuse against her.
i'm puzzled as to why people think Motley Crue aren't permanent A list? Is it because you don't like them? Like them or not they were huge and became an infamous party band. They say no one parties harder than Motley Crue. Their reputation alone is enough to make them A list. Slash and Duff said that partying with Motley Crue was like looking into the abyss.
Motley Crue is a well known band with many well known songs and recognizable members. You don't forget any of the guys in Motley Crue. They're still well known when many of their contemporaries faded into deep obscurity decades ago. They just happened to have enough luck and the right look and sound to push past the growing masses of similar bands. And they sound distinctive. You don't lose a Motley Crue song in a pile of 80s rock. You can pick it out right away.
I think that when it comes to lettered listing things can vary from person to person though. You could bring up an A list athlete and I likely wouldn't know who they are because I don't care about sports. Bring up an A list reality star and I can't tell you about anything other than the Kartrahians and various Duggars unless we're going way back to MTV's first steps into reality TV.
I think name recognition alone can bump you up a bit and has a lot to do with this. You can be the most talented musician or actor there is. But if you aren't anywhere near a big name yet you might as well be D list.
Just pondering - in this week we've all been out for Louis CK's blood because he performed a standup set and the masses think he hasn't paid enough consequences and stayed away. For the wanking in front of women and some icky phone calls.
Tommy Lee AND Nikki Sixx have an absolutely fucking horrific history of violence and emotional/verbal abuse against a series of women. Not to mention TL giving hepatitis to Pamela Anderson (some say deliberately).
Violence and abuse aren't some cute, quirky part of "rock and roll, man."
Why is there nary a peep about MC making more music? I don't really have an opinion on what should happen to either Louis CK or MC but it's interesting to observe our often arbitrary and inconsistent collective outrage.
It's not inconsistent because "collective" is only a fantasy in your mind. There's not a peep about Tommy Lee because the news about his recording hasn't hit Gran's FB page yet. And no, "we" have not all been out for Louis CK -- maybe you and some other freaks on twitter, but not me or we. If you get your assumptions in check you won't be so puzzled.
Think I'm a little too old to appreciate the genre 'Heavy Metal'. In the 80's I was raising kids. Early 70's Led Zeppelin - I mean listen to the musicians, some of it breaks my heart.
@Erin I'm in no way going to defend Tommy Lee or any other member of Motley Crue, but it is alleged that Pammy lied about the hep C altogether.
And because you apparently need to hear it, every single member of MC is a gross pig. So is Louis C.K., for that matter. But I personally appreciate the talents of both, and I will continue to enjoy the entertainment they offer. I just wouldn't be dumb enough to ever be alone in a room with any of them.
Mötley Crüe were in their heyday just as I was getting my career started on the fringes of the music business, and I can assure you they were most definitely A+ at their peak in the late 80s/early 90s.
"Girls Girls Girls," "Dr. Feelgood," "Don't Go Away Mad," a bunch of others, they were all huge hair band hard rock hits, heard them all the time. The band had a sort of cartoonish danger to them, full of sex and drugs and rock'n'roll that still seemed slightly more fun than dangerous, and they really played up the sexual prowess and endowment of the band's members (so to speak).
I'd be borderline about whether Mötley Crüe is permanent A List as a band, however. Tommy Lee became permanent A List because of the Pam Anderson sex tape, not the band itself.
Tommy Lee
ReplyDeleteJustin Timberlake, but I doubt he's recording sonce he just released his album that flopped.
ReplyDeleteLee and Sixx are recording right now.
ReplyDeleteJustin timberlake isnt any of these things lol
ReplyDeleteAgree with Tricia but it.pains me to think MC and Tommie Lee are perm A list. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteThe Stones were in talks about doing another album. Maybe Keith Richards.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I wonder if it's anyone still a bit tasty. I could tame that bad boy [pats hair]

I didn't think we were disputing it, merely mourning the zeitgeist that allows it.
Delete(I can't name a single MC song)
Keith Richards isn't exactly violent. He nearly got killed by a tree once.
ReplyDeleteThey were just getting revenge for all the trees that he snorted, smoked and shot.
DeleteFake blind, as we all know EVERYONE in hollyweird is gay, so unless its a female star not gonna believe it!

I love the way you can be a perm a list rock band without having a single hit song in the UK.
ReplyDeleteTommy Lee I would say. T-Bone and Sixx are in the studio. Sixx is clean, I think, but Lee..no way in hell he is.
ReplyDeleteLindsay Buckingham?
