Blind Item #6

Since this film is historical in nature, the producers have decided to pull the release date in hopes that their A list star can get his act together, get sober and actually do press for the movie. Apparently he has little actual recollection of shooting the movie because he was so out of it during filming.

  1. He should have been fired and replaced during filming if he was that incapacitated. And now he should be uninsurable.

  2. Should have been uninsurable years ago. How does he keep skating by?

  3. What does it being historical in nature have to do with him being able to do press?

    1. My guess would be to drum up interest and raise awareness of the story. Nothing works better than the main star pounding the junkets telling you why you should give a shit about their movie. Depp would be a disaster if they sent him out front and center at the moment. He’s trashed and surly 24/7

  4. Probably needs to get the facts straight about the plot.

  5. @Sara that's a good question. I'd also like to know why people keep rushing to his defense given all these stories that keep coming out. None of us know him or anyone he's been involved with.

  6. I figured the fact that it's historical, rather than contemporary, means they can afford to wait, because it's not going to be less topical some months from now. Or they could use that as an excuse, like, "We decided to wait and release it on a particular date because that's the anniversary of such-and-such event in the movie."

  7. So how do you get the script and acting right if you cant even remember what you are doing? just wondering...

  8. Yeah, didn't they just shelve Depp's latest movie? Not to be released or postponed indefinitely.

  9. @Thonker Depp has been using an earpiece to feed him lines for a while now.

  10. THonker, Depp just interprets roles now, he doesn't act out the script. That is for the little people, no a genius like him.

Sometimes it works like in POTC, but more often than not now it doesn't work and his movies are only somewhat lucrative because of his name and the fan base that comes along with it, even that is fading/waning.

Even in POTC Disney execs wanted to fire him when they watched the dailys coming in. They had no idea WTF he was doing, because he certainly wasn't acting anything like the pirate in the script... but they didn't fire him and it worked.

City of Lies has been delayed

Ah, he does look jacked in every pic. But he could have also been wasted off his ass in every POTC movie as well and we'd never know, but we do.

  12. All these studios know big things are about to drop, they're just not sure who is going to get hit in the crossfire. Many films just may end up getting buried.

Depp knows he's got as many skeletons as anybody, maybe more. That's why he's killing himself slowly.

  13. I really wish WB recast him in Fantastic Beasts. What a disaster.

  14. It's all over the news and the timing is terrible because the release date is/was Biggie's birthday.

  15. DDonna - I think you are right. Something more serious that him being drunk is swirling around him. All these stories of him being angry and violent, when just a couple of years ago A listers, and the usual cast of enablers were shrugging off his ex wife's claims of physical abuse because "Mr Depp didn't have a violent bone in his body."

  16. He should be cast in a remake of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"

    He wouldn't need a script

  18. In fact how does Depp pass any movie insurance medical? Now they may take the risk but at a substantially higher premium, after all how did Philip Seymour Hoffman pass for Hunger Games - yeah they had a minder for him but the minder was not with him when he ODed on a break home in NYC and he was fresh out of rehab before the movie started filming.

And this is not cheap insurance to begin with.

Or someone has to agree to be personally liable for all the costs if the movie is delayed in any way and have the financial means to back it up.

This is what Mel Gibson did for RDJ for Air America - he guaranteed the full financial liability if RDJ screwed up. And that ended up well for Mel.

  19. Depp was very candid about how abusive his mother could be, so I am betting that many of his demons stem from that.

  20. He was involved with the disappearance and death (no body found as of yet) of his viper room co-worker. It's eating away at him. It's called karma. He was greedy and he knows it.

  21. Considering Johnny Depp is an Executive Producer on City of Lies, this doesn't make sense. Production images from the streets of LA at the time showed him alert and in working mode. The character he played was an alcoholic. Depp himself has lost a lot of weight and cut way back on bad habits over the last several months. They'll probably release it after Fantastic Beasts when things calm down and they have more time to market it.

  22. I love watching pretentious movie stars crash and burn.

  23. Jen Ty, at least RDJ had the integrity (and class) to not let the one person down who gave him a chance. It would be nice to think Johnny Depp would do the same if someone helped him. It`s a shame to see him go into a downward spiral, but perhaps it`s his conscience that`s creating that.
