I think this A- list mostly television actress is going to regret her decision to leave the hit show which brought her career back to life. She wanted way more money than anyone was willing to pay, so she walked.
In the original UK version of the show, Fiona was only in the first season. Obviously the US writers changed the plot quite a bit to keep her in it. In the UK version, Fiona, Steve, Debbie, 'Lip, Mandy, Sheila, Monica, Vi, and Kevin all left the show before the end, and other characters simply stepped forward to fill in the gaps. Doesn't seem like the American audience will stand for it though. The real focus of the show is Frank, not Fiona.
@BasiljH Emmy was huge in 2003/4 and being called a "rising star" and then her career stalled. She doesn't have the presence to carry a big movie, and she might never get lucky enough to land lead in a big show again. This is really dumb of her.
Completely disagree. Emmy is actually a fantastic actress who easily should have won an Emmy by now for her role. However, they only seem to nominate William H. Macy and the show is like in its 7th season. It’s bringing her NO WHERE at this point. She’s beautiful, classy and talented. She can easily find a role to make her career pop. I doubt she’s done.
I love both Emmy Rossum and William Macy. There can be no Shameless without both. They are brilliant in the show. This is the first I’ve heard of her leaving, I thought the upcoming season was the last. Wish they would’ve ended it two seasons ago when they all had the happy endings. For the record, I never heard of Emmy Rossum before Shameless so I’m hoping this is Debra Messing.
Fiona left the original UK Shameless after 2-3 seasons and the show thrived, but Rossum’s Fiona absolutely makes the show. I don’t think it’s about money. I think actors often don’t want to be permanently typecast which is inevitable if they play only one role for so long. I also think the timing of her hubby’s show ending has to do with it, he’s brilliant, and maybe they want to create a project together. Two talents I wouldn’t mind seeing a product from AT ALL.
TV is far better written than the cartoon-crap movies nowadays. Plus film is all about the boys with actresses playing paper dolls. Major actresses are fleeing to television.
Most actors sign a seven year contract when they are cast in a series. I believe that is based on court rulings that personal service contracts can't exceed seven years. That is not to say that actors don't break them or get released from them if there are problems. If Rossum is in her seventh season it probably means her contract is expiring.
Awww Emmy, poor thing. welcome to being a woman in a man's world. Now you get zero dollars! enjoy the money you have. Must be nice to have that option in life!!
Debra Messing?

ReplyDeleteHmm that's a shocker. The show has to end then.
ReplyDeleteEmmy Rossum
ReplyDeleteI like the Debra Messing guess, but only because I don’t like Debra Messing.
ReplyDeleteWelp, looks like hubris claims another victim.
ReplyDeleteAnother greedy actress shoots herself in the foot. SMH

DeleteThanks, Mooshki- didn't know that about her.
ReplyDeleteW/o Rossum's tits and dumper, that show is doomed.
ReplyDeleteER
ReplyDeleteKev and V could carry the show. Wish Fiona would take Frank with her.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I'm thinking Demi Moore.
ReplyDeletefirst Malek, now Rossum

DeleteDebra Messing's been talking about what they're doing in their next season - not her.
ReplyDeleteRuth Wilson
ReplyDeleteThe Affair
Shameless has sucked for the last two seasons, and Rossum is smart for leaving.
ReplyDeleteIs Winona Ryder leaving Stranger Things?
ReplyDeleteI guess she'd be mostly movies anyway.
ReplyDeleteI think this is Emmy Rossum too. She had issues with the pay scale in the past that I thought had been resolved.

TC, I thought last season was the best so far. I wonder if they'll cap it at 10, though, with Carl going off to Westpoint and Emmy leaving.
