Blind Item #11

A bunch of old white people got together and strategized how best to make sure people of color were placated but wouldn't be everywhere on the television screens. So, they came up with a new award which is such crap and they should be ashamed of themselves.

    3. Can anyone enlighten me as to how this whole sandybrook vs. geeljire feud originated? Because it feels like I've been seeing these back and forths between them for ages now and while it's entertaining (I won't lie I laugh at the responses), it derails the people trying to guess the blind. And it often carries on for a ridiculously long time and distracts from other comments.

  11. Geeljire, you know how this works. It's like FBI crime stats. Some people are white when they're the perp, and non-white when they're the victim.

I hope people of color don't accept this slap in the face. They should kneel during the anth-- er, I guess they don't have the anthem at Hollywood events, do they? Imagine that. I'm sure they can find some other way to protest.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Let me get this straight--Greeljie says something about Jews, maybe antisemitic I don't know ?

And sandybrook responds by calling him "Goatfucker" which means Sandy hates Greeljie, but also thinks he's a Muslim or Arabic person or third-worlder, and Sandy also hates them and thinks they have sex with animals all day.

    Got it !

  13. Let's face it. The majority of people in America haven't seen most of the best picture movies. One or two of the nominated films, but not all. Sometimes I haven't even heard of one of the films. Gone are the days you can honor a movie for being purely entertaining. Most best pictures are ones that make a. "Statement" and are often making liberal statements. So having an award for a popular movie isn't a bad idea. I probably still won't watch the show. But if they do it just to award a certain race, sex, etc. I wouldn't be surprised. Hollywood is so out of touch with the real world.

    ReplyDelete
  14. They are basically saying that although Black Panther was a huge hit it’s still not getting nominated for best picture. So they made up an award for BP so no one will protest and boycott the Oscars

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah no. Not buying this explanation, Enty.
Also, lolololololol at the Academy. You're ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Not a fan of the Geel/Sandy bickering. I just skim past those now and wonder if it's meant as distraction.

The new "Best Popular Film" award is just sad. The Oscars are showing how desperate they are, but it's too late.

  17. Oscars. They will give it to BLACK PANTHER

  18. @Tricia13

Not only are you sticking your nose into a tiff between sandybrook and Geeljire, you presume to tell us we should take sandybrook's side simply because he's "been here a long time". What flawed reasoning.

What does how long someone has been commenting on CDAN have to do with anything? Are we supposed to pay obeisance to you because you also have "been here a long time"?

  19. 99% of movies today seem like the old Drive In movie fare. You know the movies that could not cut making it to a theater. I base my comment on having watched them on tv.

We brought our 4 year old grandson to the theater to see Fallen Kingdom because he is a dinosaur fanatic. About 40 or so minutes into the movie, he said, "This is boring." My husband and I agreed so we left.

The last movie before that my husband and I went to see was Atonement. It was awful but we sat through it because we kept hoping it would get better. Finally, it did get better. It was when the credits began rolling.

  20. I guess i just find it strange that they created an award entirely for Black Panther...like, "Best Popular Film?" That's basically saying it's a lesser film than the best picture nomination anyway. It's just a dumbass consolation prize.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah, there's a simpler reason than blaming racism and saying the "old white men" who run Hollywood don't want blacks on TV. Maybe Enty hasn't watched TV in 30 years.

They created a monster by the way they hyped up BP as Important. Now the monster wants to be fed with awards. There's a lot of pressure to give BP Best Picture, because didn't everyone say it was the best thing ever? 97% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, top of the list for the year, and it appears to have the most reviews too. Everyone had praise for it! It has to be a great film, right?

There's just one problem: as a film -- you know, a story told with moving pictures on a screen -- it's not that good. It's average comic book fare at best, and that's not saying much. Even the CGI, the one thing those movies usually get right these days, was sub-par. All the critics praised it to the moon for obvious reasons, and everyone in the industry knows that even though they can't say it. So if they give it Best Picture, it'll expose them as the jokes they are.

So they're trying to satisfy the fans who bought into their BP over-hype by giving it this other award. Then they can still give Best Picture to some message fiction no one saw, like they usually do. They'll make a big hairy deal out of the new award, and try to disguise it as a wider overhaul of the awards rather than the pandering door prize it is. We'll see if it works any better than the NFL trying to get players to stop kneeling at the anthem by funding their causes.

  22. We've entered an era where we have to give Black people awards, whether they earned it or not, or it's "racist." Why should Black Panther get an Oscar? What makes it an Oscar winning movie? Be honest.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Even Geeljire actually likes Sandybrook he just never lightens the fuck up

Because realistically speaking this wasn't a room of Hollywood Irish or Italians making these plans at the Academy

  28. The Iron Man/ Avengers movies would never get the Best picture award. Let Black Panther just continue as a money making franchise, more black actor get work with💰, become famous, get real Oscar bait movies. That's how it is supposed to work. This is like give everyone a trophy for showing up.

  35. The Shape of Water should not have won Best Picture.
Sally Hawkins is a gifted actor; however, the director overdid the bad guy to the point of being ludicrous. It really was a remake of The Creature from the Black Lagoon, only with a successful love match for the creature.

  36. Not to stir the pot r anything but do the BET awards have a "Most Popular" entry so that Whites or Asians don't feel excluded?

"The Shape of Water should not have won Best Picture."

I concur. A friend loved it, begged me to see it so we could talk about it. Hawkins was fantastic. Other than that, it left me cold. Oversaturated, exaggerated, and way too busy, I just couldn't connect with it.

instead of awarding the best achievement in filmmaking they often give the oscar to the "Most popular movie"

    ReplyDelete
  53. Speilberg didn't get nods for his hits back in the day. This seems like a bone the Academy is throwing at a (not deserving, but PC popular) movie so's not to be accused of racism.

  54. Q: If you pushed tricia13, sandybrook, plot and viking song of the top of the empire state building, who would hit the ground first?
    A: Who fucking cares...

  55. Okay honestly, can we stop saying "people of color"? It sounds so pandering and stupid. I don't know a single black person who has ever been offended by being referred to as black, or referred to other black people as "people of color". It's a bullshit sjw term meant to make white people with unresolved racial tension feel better about themselves.
Also before anyone bitches, I know it's supposed to apply to a "broader spectrum" of ethnicities/minorities. Ie, basically anyone who isn't white. Same thing applies. I don't know anyone of any ethnicity who has ever been offended by being referred to as their ethnicity. It's so fucking ridiculous.
I'm white and when I have to bubble in "Caucasian" on forms, I always get slightly irritated -- and have since I was a kid. Just put "white", for God's sake. This hubbub about race is making everyone more on edge and isn't helping.
