Blind Item #11 - Reader Blind Item

This writer/director who started out as a screenwriter first is probably not A list to most people which is a shame because he has written as well as directed some truly classic films.  It’s a travesty of justice he has not won at least a screenwriting Oscar.  Many years ago, when he was just starting out, he submitted a screenplay to this permanent A list director for a film he was planning about man making contact with another form of life.  His screenplay was not used for the film which became a huge hit.  The streaming service that is often written about on the site has approached the writer/director about editing his old screenplay and filming it for them.  He is strongly considering it.

  6. John Carpenter, he started out in the 70s and wrote a lot of sci fi stuff, still alive, did a lot of great films, but not A list, still cult. Never won an academy award

    Close Encounters for the film

  7. I agree with Sadie, sounds like Paul Schrader. He’s directed a lot of shite movies recently, The Canyons and Dog Eat Dog were rubbish.

    1. I didn’t realize Schrader did those. Although neither were A+ both were odd experimental films. Very interesting. I don’t think this is about him. The blind said that he directed some true classics. I like all of Schraders bigger films but I’d never consider any of his films as true classics.

    2. Perhaps American Gigolo, Hardcore and Blue Collar could be considered classics to a certain demographic. But yeah, I suppose he hasn’t directed any well known classics. The background behind the writing of CEOT3K was a little checkered, especially between Spielberg and Schrader, it sounds like they had some sort of falling out and Schrader just abandoned any involvement, so then SS claimed sole writing credit.

    3. Yeah those and I’d throw in The Light of Day and Affliction. Who knows though, that knew Ethan Hawks movie looks great. Maybe his Masterpiece is in his future.

  8. Definitely Paul Schrader/SS/Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Schrader's original script for CEot3K was leaked online a while back. Here's the link, don't know how long it will last.

    Unsurprisingly, it's quite good.

  9. OT: Looks like the other shoe is starting to drop on Gunn, showing why Disney acted so fast. Do any of the "it was just jokes" defenders want to try on "it was just pedophilia-themed parties"?

    1. I had a feeling that Disney knew there was more dirt on Gunn that was going to be exposed. He's just not worth the effort to defend. Doesnt matter what you believe of his attractions, I bet there's even more things that will surface to paint him further in this light.

He has no one to blame but himself though, just dumb either way.

      Thanks Cail.

  10. How is the other shoe starting to drop on Gunn?

  11. You fail to mention that it comes from the official Breitbart account, sweetheart. And Breitbart has a slight fucking tendency to distort facts for its own agenda.

  12. It's not just there, but go ahead and defend it. Keep digging that hole.

  15. I believe this is referring to Robert Zemekis and his film: CONTACT. George Miller(MAD MAX 1-3, Babe, etc.) was gonna make it but got fired. He never has gotten accolades for some classic films.

"It's not just there, but go ahead and defend it. Keep digging that hole."

No one is defending "it" (and by "it" you probably mean the many names strewn across the path of The Greatest Pedo Hunt EVAH!)

To the point, people are asking YOU to find a reliable source other than Reichbart which is known to make shit up, even to it's ex-employees who have admitted as much.

So, darling, if you can't manage that then no one needs to defend "it" since you've not made a real accusation.

  17. On the same IG account, Breitbart wasn't afraid two days before to call Antonio Sabato Jr. a "Hollywood Star"...

Because, when you think about Hollywood stars, the first name that pops in your mind is apparently Antonio Sabato Jr.

Also, I find it quite problematic when the "evidence" about Gunn being a pedo is that he is dressed as a catholic priest in front of some women and a man who are clearly over 18 even if they're dressed as slutty schoolgirls. It's in very bad taste, and I would have never wanted to be part of that party, but you know what's truly problematic? Sexual abuses on children inside the Catholic Church.
Which is now known to be a huge problem all around the world, on a scale where even the nuttiest and worst allegations against Hollywood just pale when compared to what catholic priests have actually done to little kids for decades and centuries.

Let's just make a Google search on the pages from Breitbart featuring the words "pedophilia" and "Catholic Church": around 310 results.
Pedophilia + Hollywood on Breitbart: around 25,000 results

    Yeah.... Absolutely no agenda...

  18. This sounds like John Sayles who I believe wrote the first draft to ET which was considered one of the best screenplays never made, "Night Skies".

I also heard that he will be directing the remake of Django, the old Western, not the Tarantino movie. If this blind is true, I am happy for Sayles, because he is a true underrated genius. His films really are American classics.

  19. This could also be Paul Schrader who is of course another underrated American filmmaker.

  20. These pedo-defending dudes like Angela and Plot-TWISTED are trying the "kill the messenger" route, suggesting that Breitbart can't be trusted, even when all the publication is doing is reposting pictures and comments from Gunn's own Instagram account.

The most interesting thing about all this to me is that these instagram posts and "Catch a Predator" party points were out there as the original pedophile news was breaking but nobody in the media wrote about it. Suddenly they are. Odd.

I'm expecting a bad week for Bill Maher.

  21. Angela your logic doesn't make any sense. You don't need some reddit/Q Anon 8Chan conspiracy to see that Gunn has some seriously poor tastes when it comes to parties and jokes. That is why he was rightfully let go. You don't have to believe Breitbart, but they're just posting photos of the party. It's the images that are the issue.

How do you jump from that to the Catholic Church? I get that you're trying to dispel the annoying internet pedo-hunters who accuse anyone of being in a ring, but in doing so you're indirectly defending Gunn.

Even if there is no massive conspiracy ring, and I for one doubt there is as much as you and Plot do, it's still a good thing that in all of this someone like Gunn was fired from Disney.

  22. ...and that was a poor swipe at Antonio Sabato Jr. He is a Hollywood star, just not a major A-list star.

  24. Angela and plot are projecting as usual. I said nothing about Gunn being a pedophile. As far as I know, he's just a man with an intense interest in the subject. I said we're finding out why Disney acted so quickly. Anyone not blinded by ideological or tribal loyalties knew from Disney's quick hook and Gunn's meek acceptance of it that there was more out there that would offend their customers and be harder to shrug off with the lie of "a few tasteless jokes." A picture is worth a thousand tweeted words.

Anyone confident that there isn't more to come?

  25. Uhh I would say STAR80 is a classic

  26. Antonio Sabato Jr is a total nobody in the rest of the world. It's funny that Trumpists basically vomit on any proper Hollywood star because they're liberals, but are ready to support some generic soap opera actor/reality TV contestant and label him a "Hollywood star", along with some has-beens à la Scott Baio, just because they're part of the few "celebrities" who support Trump. Badmouth the celebrity system as much as you want, but don't try to reclaim it later for your own cause when it suits you. That's some real hypocrisy. If Antonio Sabato's message must be spread, because he's a Hollywood star, there are hundreds of "Hollywood stars" who also deserve to be heard on the same rule.

Also, Paul Schrader has done some really poor films as a director, but his best ones are extremely underrated. There's his debut, Blue Collar, and also his Mishima, which remains a reference for artists biopics in the way it cleverly intertwines the works of Mishima with his life. And the Philip Glass score is great too.

  27. I think the Paul Schrader guess is right. He was involved in writing some amazing screenplays that never won Academy Awards.

"I'm expecting a bad week for Bill Maher."

Have any of your personal predictions come true? Or is this straight from Q, whose failure to predict anything is well known.

    @Predelicto

"Gunn has some seriously poor tastes when it comes to parties and jokes"

    No one is contesting this.

"it's still a good thing that in all of this someone like Gunn was fired from Disney."

Maybe. I doubt Disney cares very much actually. It was balancing the firing of Roseanne for all the Red States, in an attempt to prove to them that they will fire a leftie, too - SEE! It's not about Trump!!!! Honest!! Now don't hurt us Cernovich, love Disney.

    Pandering shits.

Gunn could be fired for any or all of his jokes (yuk-yuk, so funny, but not out of character with the rest of funny TV and movies in this country, come on.) What is objectionable is that a powerful corporation would play the country in ways like this. It's virtue signaling to the likes of 4chan, absolute pandering, which is a serious issue.

  29. The current rumors are that James Gunn could be rehired by Disney, as Marvel (not just the cast of GotG) fights for his cause.

    https://deadline.com/2018/08/james-gunn-guardians-of-the-galaxy-marvel-studios-disney-eleventh-hour-save-attempt-1202443199/

And the guy is anyway lined up with offers from every other major studio.

That would also show that the blind items posted here after he was fired are fake. If Gunn was an actual pedophile rather than a guy who made crude and tasteless jokes about pedophilia, there's no way there would be any talking behind the scenes.
I said it from the beginning, as it was rather obvious. If Disney had discovered that Gunn was a real pedophile, as this blog and other alt-right sources claimed, every party involved would have buried his departure under another motive, to make everyone look good. He would have been fired or would have left the project due to "creative differences" at another time, with a severance package and a NDA, as it would happen in most industries actually.

  30. Plot, I don't think his firing had anything to do with a "balancing act" to counter the Rosanne firing. I am not thinking in the left/right paradigm about this. I am thinking about how Disney, a family friendly company, feels about being associated with a guy who openly makes jokes like this and attends weird pedo-themed parties. I don't think the guy is a pedophile. I think the conspiracies are crazy, but I was saying that in the midst of all of this lunacy, I think Disney made a rational decision to let Gunn go. I don't think Disney gives a care about Cernovich and the alt-right internet mobs. They care about protecting the image of the company.

No one sat at a company meeting and said 4Chan has us by the balls or we have to make up for Roseanne. Not everything is political. I am actually trying to meet in the middle about this but you keep bringing it back to the left/right politics.
