At an outdoor rubbage sale for a small public library in a small town in Ohio- got all the books I could put in a grocery bag got $5. I was 15 and was smart enough to fill it with all these old books from the 1800’s. Stilll have them all and one is a rare book worth over $100 (signed by author).
Break Up by TomyTronic for $1. It was this gigantic (compared to a Game Boy) electronic handheld game that used LEDs. It was quite fun, even though I had just gotten by my Game Boy. This was circa 1990. I still have it somewhere, and I'm sure it still works.
A Louis Vuitton briefcase with a combination lock, to which the person had forgotten the combination. Bought it for 5.00 and on a whim tried the numbers 777 since I had just gotten back from Vegas--and it opened right up!
Just last weekend. A smallish 60’s plastic ,6 drawer organizer with pre- Colombian artifacts( figurines,beads and painted pot shards) a piece of Hadrian’s wall various arrowheads and a piece of Stonehenge ,all labeled for 2$
it was a thrift store, but the buy was so good: a ralph lauren velvet little black dress for $5.00 with 15% off and it was tax-free school shopping days so i got it for $4.25. i can't ever top that and only dementia will make me forget every detail.
An ergonomic keyboard about 15 years ago for 5 bucks. It's traveled to 3 jobs with me and still going strong, I just need to use an adapter for it so it will work with USB connections
A 1939 radio console (like in A Christmas Story) with hook up for both Victrola and a new-fangled thing called television. Still works! Cost: $5 Worth: $300-350.
'Zebra II' a vasarelli print in a rich suburb of boston for 5 bucks...she said she paid alot for it a long time ago but no longer liked the color of the matting...i gave her the $5 and told i didnt like the matte color either but would change it...she looked at me like i was a genius...lol!
1975 Fender Strat for $200. Bought it in 1992. Occasionally still play it. Its crossed the country twice with me. Its beat up, but it's got to be worth more than $2000 now?
@Ddonna.... What's the big secret? My brother-in-law's father was in the FM, and my sister claims to know "something" but she won't tell me, she says if it got out, her husband could have his tongue cut out!!
Prior to gun control nuts and safety nannies taking over (1981) I bought a slightly used Ruger 22 cal rifle, with scope. I had just turned 12, bought it for $75 without my parents permission or knowledge. Those were the days.
I also bought five Lamiglas rods, and three G Loomis rods for $60 while at an estate sale.
10 years ago I bought 3 sets of original Star Wars-A New Hope figurines in character shaped boxes from the 70’s. Complete with little weapons. From an elderly couple who were selling their adult children’s toys from their youth. $20 for the lot. Each set is worth over $500 now and I still owe them.
2 things. A vintage 1950s bathroom scale for 50 cents in 1996, i used it until I sold it last week at our yard sale for $5. A painting for $5 that turned out to be worth $1000. Its on my wall.
