The old cream of wheat with the man sitting In his kitchen looking out at the snow and the old Gillette razor one from the ‘60’s that was on during Lassie. Or any of the classic McDonald’s Christmas ones.
There is a popular Dutch commercial that is on youtube. It's for English classes. Grandparents pick up the children, and they turn on the car radio to a very crude song. The grandparents want to appear to like what their grandchildren like, so they appear to enjoy the song. The kids are laughing in the back of the car. In Holland, there is no censorship, so they can say all the words which would not be permitted Stateside. I was pretty shocked when I first saw it. It does make the point that we should know what the words of the songs mean, and everyone could make use of another language. No need to be self-limiting.
I love that one where the kids are taunting another kid about the vcr light flashing in his house? What time is it at your house? 12:00? 12:00? 12:00? And they're doing the hand gesture with wavy fingers for flashing. This is a commercial right....
Remember when Cindy Crawford tried to sing in that Charlie perfume commercial? It aired for a week or so before being redubbed because the vocals were embarrassingly bad. Good times.
My favorites on TV now are the Haribo adults with kid voices and the Twizzler ads. Both are so brilliant and happy they even make a crotchety old bitch like me laugh.
I can't think of anything that stands out as favorite of all time, but I love the ad where the puts his Puli on his head. I think it's a beer commercial.
I also enjoy the original Clapper commercial, Matt LeBlanc pouring Heinz ketchup off a roof, Demi Moore & Michael J Fox's Diet Pepsi commercials, and my all time fave, Encyclopedia Brittanica.
I had a shirt back in the day: This is your brain This is your brain on drugs This is your brain on toast with a side of bacon (With appropriate illustrations)
WHOA! I remember that Folgers commercial but had scrubbed it from my brain. But honestly, the implied incest does not bother me as much as the implication that FOLGERS GROUND IS CONSIDERED "REAL COFFEE" COMPARED TO WHATEVER THEY'RE SERVING IN AFRICA.
Southwest Airlines had one I loved....guy walks through first class of a typical airplane, champagne is flowing, music loud, hostesses sitting on passenger laps, etc. He goes through a curtain the economy class, and the music shifts to a funeral dirge, passengers are huddled together like refugees. Only saw it once, but funny as heck.
@Sara You make a great point. The brother would be like, "I get back home and the house has turned into a Lutheran church basement?! Did you make this in an urn, ffs!"
Years ago, there was a Purina Kitten Chow commercial with this little orange striped tabby zooming across a hallway from room to room, while the lady of the house walked down the hall with a basket of laundry.
Then closeup of kitten revving his motor - "Vroooom-Vroom!"
Going waaay back - the 60s Right Guard classic “Hi Guy” series with Chuck McCann in the bathroom mirror. Alka Seltzer’s “Spicy Meatball” that kicked off the whole “I can’t believe I ate the whooooole thing” ads. And anything Stan Freberg had a hand in creating - like the prune spots. And Mariette Hartley and James Garner selling polaroids.
Rodney Allen Ripey eating a cheeseburger from Jack in the box! And any kibble and bits commercial. The Keds tennis shoe coomercial for bicentennial is memorable too!
E trade babies are my all time favorites! Back in the day—the litter commercial where the Indian cries at all the pollution and junk and someone is singing “Whose Garden was This?” Love that song.
An untalented gymnast walked into a bar.
