This former A+ list athlete who recently retired to enjoy the life of celebrity/part-time reality star/frequent strip club patron is developing a line of custom collectible bats to commemorate his home runs. For whatever reason, his A list girlfriend is the money behind the venture, although it is technically billed as a joint venture.
The original artwork for the collectibles is very on-brand - uses a former team's color scheme, very masculine.
The artwork his girlfriend wants used is very off-brand - feminine colors with lots of pastels and much too feminine for this type of item. Looks more like what you would see used for a line of cosmetics or skin care.
Our former athlete's people want to go with the original artwork because they know it makes more sense with the theme for sports collectibles. The girlfriend is pushing hard for her vision. Since she is the real money behind the venture, she's got big sway. The boyfriend is stuck in the middle.
Will be interesting to see if money beats out good business sense in this venture.

I remember when there was a blind here about A-Rod having the hots for a transexual fan. Was that one of the fake ones?

ReplyDeleteOK. I don't know much about sports, but I do know more about baseball than the other sports because my dad and grandpa very much liked baseball. And the really good Yankees and Dodgers were always a kind of celebrity, from Joe DiMaggio to Mickey Mantle to Reggie Jackson to A-Rod and Derek Jeter.
ReplyDeleteOne of the big naughty gossip things about the Yankees from a decade or so ago was a notorious Vanity Fair article by the at-the-time Washington Post sports reporter Christine Brennen (I think it was her, I might be wrong) that was spiked shortly before publication.
It was her guide to the "size" of all the best known athletes that she'd seen in locker rooms across sports. It claimed a lot of the tension between Derek Jeter and A-Rod stemmed from the latter being so big and the former so small. Greydon Carter killed it before publication, and nobody else would touch it. So to speak.
There used to be pieces on the internet about this small scandal, but I can't find them anymore.

ReplyDelete@DDonna, it would be the other way around. A-Rod and his steroids have side effects. Derek was a known non user,despite pressure to use. Yes,I heard about the transgender girlfriend,it seems she just disappeared. His woman before JLo were muscular and usually big fake boobs. He did talk Kate Hudson into getting implants,but they are pretty normal looking.

ReplyDeleteSince all these reports about the spiked VF article came second hand, it would definitely be possible the roles were reversed by whoever got the gossip out there first. It would also help explain why people would rationalize making it disappear on the internet.
