Blind Item #7

This recent former candidate for President has been in the background saying he wants to run again. Some of the people in power want to make sure that doesn't happen again and have been reminding people about the lifestyle he used to live back in the day and cost him big time before. He tried to change that narrative with some personal moves shortly thereafter, but he is being subtly warned it will all come out again for a new generation to hear if he proceeds.

  2. Biden? MeToo movement might jump all over him.... Not sure if he ever was a true candidate previously, though.

  3. Bernie was pretty wild. He had that college newspaper story about a lady enjoying rape from the 1970s, which one might argue was too old to matter, except that the Dems went after Mitt Romney's fraternity pranks.

Biden is too old; Bernie is too old. Romney would have been perfectly timed in 2012. I like a president aged roughly 50-70, maybe 50-75.

    1. +1. He’s trash but had a really progressive political platform. It’s a shame. Also, my definition of recent is the 1990s!

  10. There are some legitimate issues against Bernie Sanders regarding his wife Jane and financial improprieties. And I am no Hillary obsessive, but, with that and his age, there is just no way he would win.

    1. @Do Tell Idk apparently Bernie polls very well and there are so many people obsessed with seeing him run. He has like a 90% approval rating and is the most favorably rated senator in the country, which is shocking to me. I don’t hate him or even dislike him but I don’t want to see anyone who ran in 2016 run in 2020 and I mean anyone, on either side. If I could wipe my memory all the way back to 2015 I would.

  13. So many possibilities, but I'm guessing it's supposed to be Bernie. The cabal cheated him out of a fair fight for the nomination, and then made him smile and give his endorsement, holding his and his wife's financial crimes over his head.

Rubio has the rumors of gay foam parties.

Ryan has stuff. I'm not sure what because I haven't been following that lately, but it was enough to put him on the Republicans-not-seeking-relection list that's been growing for the last year and a half.

Cruz apparently likes MILF cheating porn. Not sure that would stop him, though, and his being Cuban/Canadian might not either.

A Biden candidacy could be killed overnight with a collage of pics in a major media outlet like the NY Times, featuring his wandering eyes and hands. That would never happen once he became their candidate, but it could in the primaries. The nastiest stuff usually happens in the primaries, like Willie Horton back in the day, the Birther stuff, or Nevertrump Republicans falling for a 4chan scam in 2016.

Could even go back to someone like Gary Hart (is he still alive?), but I think "recent former candidate" means someone who ran in 2016.

  25. Edwards last ran in 2008. That over 10 years ago. Hart ran in 1988 that’s 30 years ago. I’ll buy Gingrich because that was in 2012. Recent to me means 2012/2016 campaign.

  26. It would be good to know what "recent" actually means. I'm figuring 2016.

Since I can't imagine anyone running for the GOP nomination against Trump, it's got to be Democratic Party, which only leaves Bernie Sanders.

Unless "recent" means within the past decade. Then maybe it would mean John Edwards?

If Marco Rubio is really considering trying to run for the 2020 GOP nomination, he must be a masochist as well as closeted.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Edwards kept his legal license and is back to practicing law, which he is very good at, btw. His new firm has gone national.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Rubio has wanted to be the first Latino president for a long long time.

He tried to resign from the Senate and mysteriously did an about-face a couple years ago.

If you look through his public statements, they seem (like Romney's) to project a "stable" force inside the GOP that denounces much of Trump's manor and decorum while essentially backing everything Trump does. To wit, Rubio furiously pounded the podium about dealing with dictators when Trump went to Kim for the photo op...but then turned around and supported it. These are the duplicitous actions of someone seeking a larger role in government.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Not Jerry Brown. 60 Minutes did a segment on him recently and his current term as governor of CA is it for him. He is happily retiring from politics at 80.

Could be John Edwards...could be John Kerry??? On the R side, I got nothing...can't be McCain and Romney is currently in a Senate race.

I don't think former recent refers to anyone who ran in 2016.

    ReplyDelete

  32. "But in fact, Sanders' trip to the Soviet Union was part of his official duties as mayor of Burlington, Vermont.

In 1956, President Eisenhower launched the program that a decade later would be called Sister Cities International, a program still in existence today. The idea was to promote peace and understanding through connections between cities in the United States and, at first, Western Europe. The program soon spread. In 1973, Seattle became a sister city of Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, then under Soviet rule. Other U.S.-Soviet sister cities soon followed despite the tensions of the Cold War.

In 1988, Burlington sistered with Yaroslavl, a city 160 miles north of Moscow. That was the same year Sanders married his second wife, Jane. In fact, the day after they married, they headed out to Yaroslavl. So, one could call it a honeymoon, and the pair have both done so, but jokingly or sarcastically. The reason for that is that they didn't go alone. There were 10 other people from Burlington who went with them. It was a trip dotted with diplomacy, official meetings and numerous interviews. Not most people's idea of a honeymoon getaway."

  34. I'm guessing a Dem, but "the lifestyle he used to live back in the day and cost him big time before" doesn't sound like Bernie. It would be nice if the DNC ran a clean candidate, but if wishes were fishes and all that.

  42. This blind is about a man who ran for President recently. We don't know how recently. Running only for Vice President doesn't count, so it's not Ryan or Kaine.

He has been saying that he wants to run again.

Back in the day he used to live a certain lifestyle that would hurt a candidate's chances. It will "all come out again", meaning that his lifestyle was already publicized and cost him big time in a campaign. This does not necessarily mean that it cost him in his recent Presidential campaign. It might have been in an earlier campaign.

He's fairly old, which is why the re-airing of his earlier lifestyle would come to the attention of "a new generation". Which supports the possibility that the lifestyle issue cost him in a campaign long before his recent run for President.

I don't think Rubio will run against Trump, and he's too young to fit the blind.

John Edwards' scandals are still pretty recent. For him, does the word "lifestyle" really apply? Maybe there's something I don't know about. And would he actually run again?

Sanders and Biden have been making noises about running in 2020. Has either of them been hurt in a campaign due to a "lifestyle he used to live back in the day"? Not to my knowledge.

I don't know who it is, but I'm curious.

  44. "He honeymooned in USSR when he was mayor of that podunk town"

George Will's accusation notwithstanding, it was not a honeymoon. Bernie exchanged visits with the mayor of the sister city in Russia of his town in Vermont when he was mayor. It's a common activity of sister cities all over the world.

  49. Al Gore has no interrst in running for office these days. And if you really knew anything about him or his family history, you might think he only ran to appease his mother. Al's sister would have made a great politician, but Mama felt it wasn't a job for a girl... and someone has to carry on the family line...

  50. I think it's John Edwards. A new generation mean that it's been awhile. He probably thinking that after Trump who would care that he had an outside baby while his wife was dying of cancer. John is still a scum bag. He paid an employee to say he was the father. We have to get back to some moral character with our candidates. John can stay where ever TF he is

    ReplyDelete
  51. The great presidents never seemed to have this "moral character" everyone speaks of. If they do, it was probably invented in the age before mass media.

Someone who is willing to work for the country and it's people, that's the only concern I have.

Well Trump had proven that being clean no longer matters right? Openly dirty. Could be the new trend helpful to many especially the unclean of the GOP party. Newt Gingrich, gag what a thought. It must be him.
