Blind Item #6

Someone who will probably run for President in 2020, or at least test the waters would probably have a much better chance of success if they were able to talk about their James/Jane Bond like military record. Apparently what seems like a boring ho hum military job was actually something you could write movies and spy novels about, but that no one is allowed to discuss.

    1. Yes, I like her, Tammy Duckworth, and I can't remember the third lady I like.

  2. Joni Ernst?? This can’t be about Duckworth

  3. Interesting that all the names floated so far are women. (except Kanye, of course.)

Personally, I love the idea of having a president that's been in the military. (There hasn't been once since the first Bush.) It gives her or him some perspective when it comes to sending troops into battle.

  4. Hillary dodging sniper fire. Like Keanu Reeves in the Matrix.

  5. Or George W. Bush with his questionable National Guard assignment. (Not to speak poorly of the Guard; I just don't think W did much for them.) Or Reagan with his WWII movie assignment.

Carter and Ford both served, and of course so did Kennedy and Eisenhower.

  6. Trump will be asking for her birth certificate - American Samoa - isn't that in Kenya?

  7. Chelsea Manning? Whaaaaaa...? You go girl!

  8. The Kanye comment gave me a much-needed laugh on a crappy Monday morning, so cheers @parissucksliterally

i don't know the answer though but this person sounds fascinating

  9. Wow, now I can see that Nixon served too. I did not know that. And Harry Truman was in World War I. You learn something every day.

Before that you need to go all the way back to Teddy Roosevelt.

Apparently FDR, Hoover, Coolidge, Harding, Wilson, and Taft did not serve.

    1. It's understandable that FDR didn't serve. Way too many health problems.

  10. McSally. Gabbard was born in Thailand so to my knowledge can’t run. Duckworth, just no.

    1. American Samoa, to American citizens, mother by birth father, naturalized before her birth; not Thailand

  11. She was born in american samoa

  12. Chelsea is a great guess, but she will still be too young to run in 2020. She is only 30 now. Pres had to be 35

  13. @Marlin, that's an open question - what does a "natural born citizen" mean?

Tulsi's mother is an American, so technically she was a citizen since birth, wherever she was born.

  14. Chelsea is NOT a good guess. She's just lost her Senate primary in a landslide after several emotional social media posts, including one in which she was standing on a window ledge about to jump off. Whatever you think of her politics, she is not in the headspace to run for anything any time soon.

  15. Oops I meant Duckworth not Gabbard. Sorry.

  16. Carolyn, glad to give you a laugh. WE all need them these days!

  17. Tulsi Gabbard. They'll find a way to talk about it to distract from her anti-LGBT past.

  18. Duckworth father was American and therefore eligible for natural born US citizenship. She is no different from Ted Cruz.

  19. Dang. This is a head turner post. I'm looking foward to 2020 being just as weird as 2016. Half the tinfoil hat crowd thinks trump is great. I'm not in that half. Wish I had a better guess. Could be somebody completly out of left field and not in politics.

  20. FDR was very healthy before he contracted polio in 1921, when he was almost 40. (Although some experts now believe he suffered from Guillain–Barré syndrome, not polio.)

He was assistant secretary of the Navy during World War I, so one could argue he got military experience that way.

  21. Tammy Duckworth deserves all the respect in the world for her service and sacrifice. She is an Iraq War veteran, served as an army helicopter pilot, suffered severe combat wounds that led to the loss of both her legs.

But does that sound like "a boring ho hum military job that no one is allowed to discuss"?

  22. this is 100% about tammy duckworth, whose most badass moments are likely classified (literally)

  23. Evan McMullen? Is National Clandestine Service considered military?

  25. My guess is Gabbard, as well.
A month or so ago, it seemed that her name was being dropped all over Reddit's GA.
Seems like "testing the waters" to me!

  26. I'm going to guess Tom Cotton. I would love for him to run. I like the Joni Ernst guess, too.

  31. McSally seems like the best pick, her military career, branch, education, interactions with high level officials etc. However she didn't have "what seems like a boring ho hum military job"

  32. I am just proud that I am privileged enough to call Duckworth my Senator. She has given more than most for this country and deserves mad respect! Happy holiday week CDCN peeps! : )

  33. @LadySabreX

Yep. She's really making Illinois great. Soooooooooooo great. A real winner. Doing a GREAT JOB.
You are not privileged and should not be proud. Illinois is a pit of despair.

  34. Brad Manning? A haha, hah! I wish good ol' Brad would run for president but no, he's too mentally unstable. Even the Dems have to draw the line somewhere.
I like Tulsi though, a lot. I think she might actually have a good chance and she could actually do a lot of good.
Also lol. Duckworth. Almost as bad as Brad M. Almost.
