Your Turn

Do your parents follow you anywhere on social media? Does it change what you post?

  1. Yes, and not usually.

  2. No they haven't been born yet but in their time period social media is mandatory for everyone. ;)

  3. I think I may be one in just a handful of people that has never done Facebook!

  5. I follow my wife and daughter on Twitter.

I don't have any other social media accounts.

I deleted Facebook years ago. People I disliked in the past kept trying to be friends. (That option passed a long, long time ago.)

PS: Richard (The Old Man) Harrison of Pawn Stars passed away this morning. RIP Richard.

  8. My parents and several members of my family that are uber Baptist follow me. It most definitely changed what I post.

  10. Yes and not anymore

  11. Absolutely not. No way.
I removed myself from FB within a week of my parents signing on

  14. My Mama was my FB friend and I didn't have to censor myself but as she slid into Alzheimers, I did censor - she was not understanding my posts unless it was plain and simple. Really, it was only for her that I was there. She passed suddenly last October so now I can be as obtuse as I wanna. If I wanna.

  16. I am 52, but yes not only are my mom and sister friends with me on FB, but so is both my sons, their wives, and even my ex mother in law. (because of the grandkids pics i post. lol)
There HAVE been times I have blocked them from posts, many years ago when I was going through a dark time.
none of my family is on Twitter and Instagram, but I really do not use those 2 much.

  19. I don't have any social media whatsoever. Hubby has FB, and my mom just got on that a few months ago. Yeah, they're friended or whatever, and no, it changes nothing. We're grownups; why would it?

  20. @VDOVault My parents are deceased, also.
When my son’s were younger, SM was just taking off. There were all sorts of stories of how potential employers were seeing inappropriate posts, pictures, etc.
We (myself included) not to post anything we wouldn’t want our Minister to see.
Knowing what I know now, I wish I hadn’t started on FB.

  21. Both parents have been dead for years. But i use the blocking feature liberally be it "family", friend or foe.

  22. I follow my son. He is an artist and I privately text him if I feel he has shared something which crosses a line with a current or future employer. I had a friend lose a fantastic job at Warner Brothers and immediately after, had a job offer retracted by Disney because she was exercising her right to free speech via social media. Create an anonymous account if you want to shock and awe. If your real name is on it, create posts that won't lose professional opportunities.

  23. Possibly, but both are deceased.
