Your Turn

Today is national martini day. Do you prefer gin or vodka martinis or just hate them in general because you dislike olives.

  6. Last time I drank gin martinis was at a beautiful home for a friend's bridal shower. We made pitchers (that should of been where I left) and I projectile vomited in the bathroom. omg I'm still haunted by that.

  10. Stirred, vodka or gin as long as it’s dirty. Have no use for green olives except for in a martini. In Chicago there was this exceptional martini bar called the Blue Stem. It was a dive but the proprietor and bartender Lefko was an intriguing broad, who would sometimes drink with you and made the most sublime martini’s I’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking. No need to order, you just trusted her tio do her magic. And then I found it had closed, taking a little bit of my love for Chicago with it.

  14. Generally not into gin or vodka.

  15. Chocolate martinis, cosmos, or anything fruity. Dirty martinis are good, but they have to be with really top shelf spirits.

  16. 1. must be gin, preferably Bombay Dry Gin.
    2. Olives must be cerignola unpitted, wiped dry of pickling brine.

According to Luis Bunuel the glasses must be from the deep freeze, the gin merely swirled in the frozen glass then put back into deep freeze.

Then the apertif and olive are added just before drinking.

I used to be into them but I don't drink anymore.

Personally I preferred gin and tonic.

The deadly Bombay sapphire! There is no substitute. Show up at my house with Gordon’s or beefeaters and you’ll be banished to West VA

  19. @Rosie and @Normal Nose vomits are the worst. No matter how thoroughly you clean, that smell stays with you 🤢 I’ve only experienced it once, but once was more than enough.

  20. Super dirty vodka martinis are divine (and I'll take whatever olives you want to add!)

  21. Cadmium77 - I like your style
Martinis are only martinis if made with vodka or gin and dry vermouth - that's it! If you add anything else it's a Cocktail NOT a martini.
Bombay gin, with a drop of vermouth, three large queen olives - stirred - you will bruise the gin if you shake it - I don't care what you do with vodka, that's gross

  22. I LOVE olives! Wouldn't drink a martini if you paid me, though.
