Blind Item #4 - Smile - A Dancing Boy Blind Item

Meet *****'s mom - in the forthcoming feature, "the Dancing Boy: a Hollywood Story," and subsequent projects. This is the girl who clearly couldn't make it for school picture day (she was working at the time). Now, imagine if her cast mate from an earlier project (a movie, in this case, not a tv show, and one of my childhood favorites [hi Tom H******: I know you're reading this]) were married, in the screen sense, and had some kids, including this one son...(Yes, Him - the dad I mean.)

(Pictured here are also two of my high school beards, including the daughter of then New Line exec Mitch Goldman, now a kids book and tv writer [last name Margolis]. She is and always was a beautiful person. I'll bet you'll be hearing from her before long. She has *stories*.)

    Someone might.

How can two short paragraphs be so garbled?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I don’t understand the first paragraph except that Tom Hanks reads this. All I get from the second paragraph is that two of his beards are pictured here.

Too many commas, run on sentences. Correct punctuation is your friend. Remember, while you are trying to make people guess, they can’t hear what is in your head so you need to stop and consider what you are saying before you write it. You are going to need a major editor on your screenplay if you don’t want people falling asleep or walking out.

  8. First I have to say I usually really like the blinds by different people, Mr X, Birdie, Her, even Reader Blinds and I usually cringe when people complain about them. However, I am a post grad educated professional and I CANNOT figure out what the hell any of the Dancing Boy blinds are about! This one, even though it is shorter, is even more incomprehensible than most. Please Enty, editing a blind is not a betrayal of the blind's author and it will be a heck of a lot less frustrating for loyal readers.

  10. Anybody else feel like Chevy Chase in European Vacation as they read this over and over to make sense of it? Look kids, Tom Hanks! Wait what? Look kids, Tom Hanks...

I vote to hijack dancing boy blinds.

    Please? They are headache inducing!

  15. Oh shit Tom Hanks reads here? *Waves to Tom and Rita* loved Forrest Gump, a lotta Forrest Gump wannabes comment on this site daily. Usually the same person under 20 different alts, but still seems like a lot.

  18. A blind item should not make the reader go blind trying to figure out what is being said. Sheesh.

  21. I was going to say Cindy Margolis but I doubt that works here

  22. The writer is Leslie Goldman Margolis. I believe she is the one in the top right corner. This is probably from 1990. I'm assuming the girl who missed picture day is the blonde who is the only one not wearing a formal jacket like the rest of the class. I'm not sure that the Tom mentioned is Tom Hanks because his movie credits for 80s or 90s or 2000s do not have a wife that looks like this girl. I'm pretty good with recognizing faces and I have no clue who she is. Unless the blind means something else entirely which wouldn't surprise me.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm sure a lot more people than Tom Hanks read this site.

  24. DB - I feel like you’re probably an incredibly intelligent person whose mind constantly races at 100 mph! I’d love to chat with you and hear your stories, but I know that I’d be like “hold up...go back a second...who? Say that again...how does that relate to...so what you mean is..!” Lol That’s how I feel when I read your blinds, I keep wanting to interject and ask for clarification :) You’re absolutely bursting with stories that you need to share, but in your rush to tell them they can sometimes get a little too complicated for my slo-mo brain! 😂

  25. I hope DB isn''t writing the screenplay....Cannot follow this DB stuff at all..where is the crime? Some producer made him dance a la Cruise in Risky Business but he got away?

  28. I will say that I've noticed the number of asterisks is intentional. So it is Tom H, with 6 letters after the H. Not Hanks.

  31. Excerpt from above link- “She’s also thrilled that “Boys Are Dogs” is being made into a TV movie by The Disney Channel. It will star Zendaya Coleman, one of the channel’s top stars (and a finalist on “Dancing with the Stars”), and is slated to air in 2014. The story has been altered a bit for Hollywood. The main character is named Zoey instead of Annabelle, and the movie is called “Zapped,” but it’s still based on Margolis’ book.”
    Not Tom Hanks, Tom Holland?
I’m a newbie- so go easy on me:)
I still have no idea what this means??

    2. Honestly can't remember.

  39. Oy.

    So working backward...

Mitch Goldman's daughter is Leslie Margolis, who I believe is pictured in the upper left corner that matches a picture on her website - http://lesliemargolis.com/

Another reader pointed out she went to Viewpoint School, a private school in Calabasas, CA. Her Facebook notes she graduated in 1992.

The actress who couldn't attend picture day seems to be Christina Nigra, also a 1992 Viewpoint School graduate. http://ztams.com/wp-content/uploads/nigra72609.jpg

She was in the Twilight Zone movie (not the TV show hence the clue). Is the blind saying she will play the mother in this biopic of "Dancing Boy?"

Then also, I think the blind is asking which guy in the Twilight Zone movie, married "in the screen sense," had a son important to this Dancing Boy project. The movie has a segment that features a family with a son played by Jeremy Licht. Is there any info on him being abused or something?

Or is it referring to the actual son of one of the other actors in the Twilight Zone movie?

    ReplyDelete
  40. WOW THIS WAS AS UNINTELLIGIBLE AS I HAVE EVER SUFFERED HERE ON CDAN.. UGH

Sorry for the all caps, accident.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Also, Spielberg was the producer on the Twilight Zone movie. And we know all the talk about him. Is there some connection to him and Jeremy Licht?

Are we supposed to make some inference about any of the guys in the picture as well? I can't place any of them off-hand, but the guy second down on the right seem familiar to me.

  42. wow well done @countervail! Maybe the first boy in the first row is Josh Axelrad? he is a writer and was in 92.

I don't think any of the guys on this page are him. If you think about a yearbook, the seniors would be listed alphabetically. Goldman in the upper left, and (Christina) Nigra (or maybe Johnson) middle right. I don't know how many people in the class, but Axlerad would be on another page, right?

    1. You're right @countervail, I was so psyched about the yearbook photo that I forgot that detail! Makes sense

  44. I think what he is saying is that he is casting the 2 people to play the parents of young DB (Kenny)

    To fill in the rest:

Film: Cloak and Dagger 1982 (one of Db's favs)
Boy: Henry Thomas (earlier project castmate, Kenny's Dad)
Girl: Christina Nigra (girl who missed photo day, Kenny's Mom.)
    Writer: Tom Holland (Tom H******)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Correction:
Cloak and Dagger was released in 1984 (not 1982)

Photo of Kenny's "Mom and Dad" from that movie.

  46. I'm thinking Tom Howell. extremely popular in my youth for The Outsiders.

  47. @countervail

Great work finding that name from a grainy b&w yearbook photo! Everything else fell into place from that. (As much as a DB blind is capable to fall into place!)

    ReplyDelete
  48. @Sher That totally makes more sense now you've explained it. So Christina Nigra will be the mom and Thomas Henry will be the dad in this movie? Do you think the amount of asterisks is literal though? Henry Thomas only has 6 letters in his last name.

Again, funny that Henry Thomas is also best know for a Steven Spielberg movie.

    ReplyDelete
  49. @Countervail

Yes, the asterisks are literal, but it's not for Henry Thomas.
It's for the writer of Cloak and Dagger, Tom Holland (Tom H******)

It's just a coincidence that there's sort of a "Tom" thing going on in both names.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I missed your other question:

Yeah, I think he wants these two to play his mom and dad. They are the right age to have a young teen.
That said, it's anyone's guess which movie script it would be (we have heard 4 or 5 distinctly different ideas now!).

    ReplyDelete
  51. OH, so Tom Holland of Cloak and Dagger, not Tom Holland of Spiderman. Gotcha.

So for anyone struggling with the BI:

"Meet some of the actors in the upcoming feature "the Dancing Boy: a Hollywood Story." In the picture is one character's to-be-announced screen mom. She used her acting headshot in the yearbook because she couldn't make it to senior photo day, as she was away working as an actress.

She was also in a movie earlier in her career, written by her to-be-announced screen husband, Tom H******. It's one of my favorite movies (and I know he is reading this).

In the photo as well are two of my high school beards. One is the daughter of then New Line executive Mitch Goldman. She's now a kids' book and tv writer with the last name Margolis. She is, and always was, a beautiful person. I'll bet you'll be hearing from her before long. She has *stories*."

By the way, does this get us closer to "Dancing Boy" proper, or has that already been revealed? Can we assume he went to Viewpoint as well, or at least Calabasas High?

    ReplyDelete
  52. @countervail

Yes, a poster found his identity months ago (and that poster happens to be me!).

I think from time to time people write summaries of what we know but I'll give the broad background picture here from what I recall.

His name is Kenneth Hempel, son of King Hempel, a CBS executive who relocated from NY to Thousand Oaks in the 70's with his new wife Linda. He was born in July, 1973. He has 2 older sisters, Kelly Johnston who is half (since his mom was a widow with a toddler when she met King), and Kathy Dotson who is involved the Wild and Scenic film fest in Nevada City, CA. His father passed away a few years ago.

He went to Viewpoint School in Calabasas and graduated HS in 1991. He then went to Sarah Lawrence college in the 90's. During the same time he was a street hustler in San Fransisco and got into drugs ending in an OD in 1998 which got him to stop. He now lives in Redwood city, CA as an aspiring writer who suffers from terrible insomnia.
He is gay (out and proud). You can find him on facebook. There's a new twitter too, I think it's dancingboy1 (but check the post he made before this one...there's a link)

He has shared stories of being abused/exploited from the age of about 6 by people in the industry. He has also commented on here as Kendrick Schroder (but not on his own posts).

If you have a lot of time, you can google all the previous blinds as they are all titled with "Dancing Boy".

    ReplyDelete
  53. @countervail

You got the blind recap correct except for the "dad". The dad is not Tom Holland, he just got a shout-out for some reason. Tom Holland, the writer of Cloak and Dagger, was born in 1943--- 32 years older than Christina Nigra so that wouldn't fit very well!.
It's Henry Thomas, the lead kid actor in that film, that would be playing the "dad".

"I think he only went to Viewpoint for middle, and graduated Thousand Oaks High.... I *think*..."

Actually, I think he did graduate from Viewpoint and this is probably from his own yearbook. If we could flip left in this book, I think he would be on the Seniors pages. This 1990-91 yearbook doesn't seem to be available online.

  55. @Sher

Got it. Ha. So to rewrite:

"Meet some of the actors in the upcoming feature "the Dancing Boy: a Hollywood Story." In the picture is one character's to-be-announced screen mom. She used her acting headshot in the yearbook because she couldn't make it to senior photo day, as she was away working as an actress.

Once I knew the name (from a clue given about his sister), the details weren't hard to find. Other posters have figured out much more along the way. Plus, he provides many details himself - once we can decipher them!.
