Anthony Bourdain Has Died

TV celebrity and food writer Anthony Bourdain has been found dead in his hotel room in France while working on his CNN series on culinary traditions around the world. He was 61.

CNN confirmed the death, saying in a statement that Bourdain was found unresponsive Friday morning by friend and chef Eric Ripert, and calling his death a suicide.

  5. He was so full of adventure and decadence—-all which made him a fantastic storyteller. It seems so contrasting to his nature (fierce and bold); I wonder if he was sick and just didn’t want to live out his days that way?

  6. I don’t know his mental health history or struggles but a couple of interesting layers to thieves story. His girlfriend of the past 18 months was one of the Weinstein accusers/victims/survivors and Bourdain wasn’t very outspoken about it. Secondly, two hours before he was found, his girlfriend posted a pic wearing a T-shirt that said “Fu** Everybody” with a caption “You know who you are.” Definitely more to this story...

  7. Maybe I've been reading this site too long, but my first thought was conspiracy! It's just too weird, he seemed to have the best job in the world. Also because of the Asia/Weinstein connection. Either way it seems hard to believe. RIP.

  14. I'm agreeing with some other posts here - more to the story. Let's think about these "suicides" - Cornell, Chester Bennington - heavily rumored they were putting together some type of documentary about teenagers that were being sexually abused by big Hollywood names. They both die of "suicide" within months of each other - and we know Vicki Cornell was DIRTY and PAID. Now we have someone who has a history of drug addiction & illness - but his gf is part of the Weinstein mess. HMMMMMMM

  16. Draw your own inferences, but isn't Bourdain the guy that's famous for eating absolutely ANYTHING?

I'm seeing connections between him and Marina, with Haiti + Penn and the C Foundation, as well as CNN which is all CIA'd up.

Much deeper story here than "poor guy"

This is sad. RIP Anthony. I do agree my spidey sense went off when I heard. I think the abusers and pedos/ traffickers are getting nervous and cleaning house...or sending messages to those who might be willing to talk? Yes, he did do alot in excess and prob drugs but look at Keith Richards. Not buying it yet. Too many apparent ‘suicides.’

These are scary, scary people. Usually they take out a nightclub or a school or baseball game. We can be thankful he was a coward the only victim he left behind was his 11 year old daughter.

  30. LINDY: The 'man' he was seen with was the man who found him in his hotel room. Eric Ripert, Chef Extraordinare and owner of Le Bernadin in NYC. Bourdin's heritage was French. He was first generation American. I posted his passing the minute I heard it this morning. I have a TV in my hospital room and when the news came on I burst into tears. The nurses turned it off. I will have to learn what happened on-line. Met him a few years back on the street in Manhattan. Stopped him and told him how much I liked his book on Typhoid Mary. He said he was stunned that anyone actually read it. We stood on the sidewalk outside the 42nd St. Port Authority and talked for 20 minutes. He was incredibly approachable and real. We shook hands as he walked away and I said halfway down the block, I love you to death! He stopped, turned around, hesitated, "Miss Boo, you just totally made my day! Thank you!" I can't believe he did this. Something is very wrong with this picture. If it had been anyone else. He was so ALIVE!!!

  31. "Great man"? His suicide broke your heart? What is wrong with you people?

Last September, Bourdain said he would give Trump poison if given the chance. In November, he said it’s great that in 70 years there won’t be any more white people. What a "great man"! /sarc

  32. Enwyn: I don't have a TV or Internet where I live now. I never heard this statement. It doesn't change how we feel about him. Obviously you have never read his books. He was mad, bad and dangerous to know, to quote a famous man from long ago. Can we lay off the snark just for today? He affected everyone the same way; we loved him.

  35. I have a food-writer friend who knew him very well, and she described him as someone who had a really unique abililty to get to know someone because of his authentic interest and curiosity in those he was around. He helped her both professionally and with some aspects of her personal life when she really needed it. Personally, I love his books and always looked forward to his travel shows - he will be missed.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I stunned that people are trying to pin his suicide on some Daily Mail photos of her embracing, not clandestinely as one would in an affair, but on the sidewalks of Rome, come on people, he is the reporter who has been in her corner while she has been attacked in the Italian press, Clement is the guy who showed her Cannes speech to the world in the press, and obviously him being an activist reporter, is her ally. They have been giving her hell in Italy. How can people read so much into that? Especially when the Daily Mail headline states 'Celebrating Harvey's downfall: Asia Argento embraces writer who shared her speech attacking Weinstein for using Cannes as his 'hunting ground', as pair stroll through Rome.' So she is going to go to Rome to appear on public streets cheating with photogs all over? She was clearly in a relationship with Bourdain, period. The desire to blame the victim is ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Rosie--Neither do I! In order to spare his young daughter additional grief, they are covering something up, big time. Did he shoot up heroin laced with fentanyl and OD? Hanging seems more au currant these days. ODing is so ghetto. I don't believe he hanged himself. Period.

  38. Why did Andy Spade make his first appearance after Kate's death wearing a mask of the mouse in the movie The Rescuers? That's creepy as shit.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Nobody in the news is saying what usually gets said about celebrity suicide so far about Bourdain: long struggle with depression, etc.

Since this is the only place I can indulge this, I'm guessing auto-erotic asphyxiation accident.

  40. As with all TV personalities, what is seen on screen is not necessarily their real self (obviously). Anthony had many great qualities, but there was indeed a side to him that just wasn't very pleasant. Summers in the Hamptons was never his best self.

  41. Andy Spade in the mouse mask was unsettling, to say the least. And a bright yellow kids' backpack, too?

  43. Then again, you were also trying to tell us the other day that Naomi Watts and Liev Shreiber were relationship goals (after Enty has told us for years all the did was cheat on her and another poster said the maid didn't even know Liev lived at the same residence because he was there so infrequently), so clearly you're as clueless as they come anyways.

  45. I might be in the minority here but i wholeheartedly believe that a person has the absolute right to take their own life. We might not agree but we have to respect their decision. RIP Anthony, yours was a life truly lived!

  46. Agreed. I've said before: Suicide is not the selfish act of a coward. For some, it is the only way to end the pain that very few people understand.

I can see your point. There are probably times when a suicide should really be described as euthanasia.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'd never do suicide out of fear of an afterlife. If you reincarnate you wind up in the same or worse gutter, 80% of the world lives in poverty, you want to roll those dice? Hell is hell, heaven is an eternity with the same a$$hole humans you couldn't stand in the first place. Sure you might hit the jackpot of sweet sweet oblivion, but you're much safer making the best out of your remaining time here. Because in all likelihood you are going someplace much worse.

  49. Add another to the Clinton body count. Not the man he was perceived to be. Only question is why? Did he fail to RSVP his Bohemian Grove invite? Who will do the spirit cooking atop the Bohemian Stove now? He sealed his fate when he signed on to accept paychecks from CNN, whooops. Dude would never hang himself either, Tony would opt for one last "hot shot" in a final dance with Mr. Brownstone. That's 4 "suicides" this week now. Tell me more...

  50. I don't buy that he committed suicide. He had too much life in him in recent photos. I know Alex Jones is crazy, but sometimes he's right -- and he think they killed Bourdain because of a spot he had recently filmed with Elon Musk in which Bourdain and Musk were going to expose some globalists secret. "Do a Kanye." Jones claims that if Elon Musk dies in a plane crash or also commits suicide, he was totally murdered. Read his take here. https://www.mediamatters.org/video/2018/06/08/alex-jones-anthony-bourdain-may-have-been-murdered-because-he-was-going-do-kanye-west/220403

  51. LUCY: I am always amazed at how much energy a few of you CDAN posters exert when I post on this site. You know who you are. I come back after being gone months and all of a sudden the site is riddled with long, long Enty stories. A certain person starts posting every three minutes while saying nothing new. I have really hit a nerve here. There is one subject that my close friends and people who know me get that is not spoken about: drugs and drug addicts. I have zero tolerance for people who are so weak they let someone talk them into medicating themselves for any reason. I recently had major, major surgery and have turned down all the pain killers, morphine drips or anything that can ease the searing pain I am feeling. My physicians and nurses are constantly asking me to take SOMETHING to ease the pain. I don't do it. I can't believe how petty some of you are. Liev and Naomi...come on! I have had an incredible life & have shared some of it with all of you. Some of you appreciate it, some don't. When the day comes I take the advice of a ghetto head to stop posting my thoughts on this site, you will be getting a message from my daughter telling all of you I died. Get a life little girl. Instead of spending all day on-line take a language class. Go to an AA meeting. Just don't lecture ME about what I can say and can't say. Have a great weekend.

Don't flatter yourself. Nobody is exerting anything on you. You're an old nobody laying in a hospital room and nobody cares. We're just responding to your repeated stupidity. I've seen a few of your posts on here and you fancy yourself as a sort of Manhattan socialite of sorts, and meanwhile you're just a big old nobody. Big deal - lost of Manhattanites spot celebs on the street, the difference is you talk to them like a thirsty moron and everyone else knows to just leave them alone. By they way, nobody likes your stories because they're not that cool or interesting.

  55. And cut the disbelief and shaking act. Anthony had major addiction issues for a very long time. I guess that just makes him "ghetto" though, right? You seem like a rotten person with your outlook on those who have problems; maybe karma is the reason you are rotting away miserably in a hospital bed.

    ReplyDelete
  56. It's also completely ironic you think addicts are "ghetto" when the person who is alleged to have started this site in the first place had once of the most documented substance abuse problems in Hollywood history and also has one of the biggest comeback stories of all time. I so wish he'd come back and comment on this thread because he'd put you in your place so fast your rotten little head would be spinning.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Boo Hearne, why, if you hate people with addiction issues, are you acting like this junkie/crackhead/alcoholic who just killed himself was a saint, and pretending that it is effecting you personally? You failed to read the many accounts from his own mouth of him on the floor in a cocaine-induced psychosis going through the rug for crumbs of what he thought was crack, and smoking paint chips and food crumbs, thinking he had found some? Did you fail to read his own accounts of his ten year heroin habit? You sound like a ridiculous liar boasting about not accepting pain medicine--want to know why the hospital demands you have pain medication after surgery, you fucking moron? Because you are at high risk for a cerebral hemorrhage or cardiac arrest from pain and elevated blood pressure, especially after a surgery, and they don't want you dying on their premises from a fully preventable death, needlessly sucking up their resources for a code red when you flatline from "searing" pain. But please, be my guest to stroke out and end up a vegetable for absolutely no reason, you will have really shown your iron will to those street ghetto druggies when you can no longer speak, see, or type stupid ass shit on blogs. About multi-millionaire celebrities who hated their lives so much, they hung themselves leaving behind young girls to cope with the disgrace of their deaths. I'm sure your daughter will appreciate what her selfish ignorant mother did to her when she is stuck taking care of a cabbage. And don't you DARE mock the agony and suffering of sick people in pain, who are dying from cancer or any number of horrific diseases and injuries, who are disfigured from lymphedema and going through the agony of not being able to breathe, but who also live in the 21st century and do not want to die without dignity, so they take pain medication.

  58. If anyone had a lust for life, it was Bourdain, this is why his suicide is so shocking. RIP.

  59. He was idiosyncratic enough that you could riff on his prose style forever, but it was a formula that obviously worked. He definitely had a streak of Thompson in him, probably on purpose, right down to speaking the same deep-seated disgust with Henry Kissinger that most upstanding citizens feel. The Lebanon bombing, visiting Gaza; it's not surprising there's a lot of love for him, and thus a lot of grief. He did what he wanted, built a pretty solid circle of friends and acquaintances, and did more than most people in his position as a celebrity chef would ever do. RIP.

You have really stirred the drug addicts into a frenzy. Enty Lawyer was a stoner who turned his life around? God bless him. He is a Truth Seeker and found the right Path in life. All those months I did not post and you did I was working and writing and photographing Nature out West. I was re-building my ranch. I was venturing into Mexico and photographing Mexican children. I was visiting my boyfriend in Paris. Riding horses in England & Spain, All the while you were on-line for hours commenting on people you don't know & will never meet. Do you really think I care what people think of me on this site? I have sufficient 'friends' who welcomed me back last week and who enjoy my stories to make it all worthwhile. I feel terribly, terribly sorry for those of you who have vomited all of this vitriol on this page. Hope you feel better now. After I am released from the hospital I will return to my happy, productive and creative life. And you will continue to post on CDAN. If this makes your life worthwhile then Enty Lawyer is doing his/her job. God Bless.

  65. Boo has been pretty consistent with posting when shes in range and staying off when not- she has a different slant on the world and opinionated because shes seen a lot. Also, she certainly appears to be in a different demograph than a lot of us. I think her stories are very interesting. The "grab your cane or go to bed" shtick is kinda old... You people want to run to the defenses of men saying they're women/women saying theyre men/everyone claiming theyre "ZE" (bigots/phobes/ists)and jumping all over people dare they call someone chubby(fat shaming) yet millenials can be AGEIST all day long. (I died a little inside just writing that word)
It doesnt seem fair to protect EVERY demography except what suits you- cant you be tolerant about *absolutely everything* consistently?
Full disclosure, I disagree with the addicts are ghetto statement as well as the refusal of all meds just to take that moral high ground. I recently asked for a friends epidural when she refused it at the hospital, and firmly believe in doing what it takes to be without pain. (Boo, you should consider marijuana)
Anyway. Just an observation here. Tolerance, executed in fairness, should be across the entire field.

  66. I just read through every single comment on this thread and am left sickened. Sickened and appalled that someone in 2018 would be calling people with substance abuse issues “ghetto”. As far as the go back amd read part...it wasnt to you, it was to alyssa. If she would do that she would see that my comment of "in a different demographic" was just an observation that over the course of her hundreds of posts, Boo certainly has been different than most.
She also missed when I said I disagreed with the ghetto remark.
I'm not ghetto either, and certainly had my fair share of drugs.

  72. Sorry, but after what Boo said on this post about addicts, Alyssa doesn't need to read a single other post from her (nor does she want to) to get an idea of the type of person Boo is. So if that's "judging", we will continue to judge on". Also, if she is so wonderful and worldly, why did 3 other people besides myself condemn her words on this post besides me? You talk about her like she's so amazing, yet if you've done your "fair share of drugs" like you say you have, she just considers you "ghetto" anyways. SMH.

I will not be back again so don't bother responding because not only am I bored with the back and forth, I also have to go write and photograph nature out west, re-build my ranch, venture to Mexico and photograph Mexican children, visit my boyfriend in Paris, and finally, ride horses in England & Spain.

  74. Lucy, Boo just called ALL of us drug addicts! Boo wrote: "This is a gossip site, they said to me. It is cotton candy for the brain. Wow! YOU HAVE REALLY STIRRED THE DRUG ADDICTS INTO A FRENZY." So, we are all drug addicts now? Boo is an offensive bully. She could go anywhere with her obnoxious passive-aggressive behaviour--to a blog for gossip, to a cancer ward, to a restaurant kitchen, to a post-op surgery unit--and proceed to announce to everyone she encounters that she has determined that they are all 'drug addicts,' and/or "ghetto," and she will incite precisely the same response she has received here, if not worse. There are people who are in despair this very moment, from depression, from chronic pain from illness, from their own substance abuse issues or those of a loved one, who are on the brink emotionally or mentally, and it is people like her who are there to push them right over the edge. In the comment section of a story about a man who just committed suicide after decades of substance abuse issues? Seeking to intentionally provoke by way of outrageous insult, being pretentious, rude, judgemental, and obtuse, is inappropriate behaviour for any age group.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Boo, you’re acting holier than thou over drug addicts, yet your beloved Anthony was a heroin addict. Make up your mind.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Why doesn't everyone just ease up a bit. Leave Boo alone. You too will be there one day, remember that. She used 'ghetto' as meaning 'low rent' and she used it originally meaning that ODing was a 'low rent' way of killing yourself. If you take that as a bigoted term, remember that there are plenty of white 'ghettos', along with every other race. As I said, that's not how she meant it anyway.
After that, she was baited and used it again, but what do you expect after being attacked.
She was doubting/questioning his committing suicide and how the authorities are so sure. So do I and hope that in the coming days those questions will be answered.
I have no reason to believe anything she says is a lie. Do you think everyone has had a boring life and that no one has hobnobbed with the rich and famous who posts on this site and others? Think again.

Look, if you didn't like Anthony Bourdain, that's fine but why the hell you would post your nasty comments WHEN HE DIED is beyond me. He was an incredibly intelligent, insightful, voraciously curious, hilarious, talented writer and story teller and compassionate man who many, many people admired and, dare I say, loved.
Those of you who would criticize his politics, too freaking bad. You'd do yourself well to actually read his books and catch his shows and once you had, I'd dare you to find him anything but provocative, despite your views, and in the best possible way.

    ReplyDelete
  77. And I'd like to add that he was an addict who had kicked the addiction, in his words. Also in his own words, he had his demons.
He was human and he lived more deliciously than most people could ever dream to. Cheers, Anthony. RIP.

Maybe he was just diagnosed with a horrible illness like ALS and didn't want to put his family through that? We may find out, we may never know... Only one thing is fact -- he's the only reason I ever watched CNN. Anthony, you will be missed!

  79. "I'm seeing connections between him and Marina, with Haiti + Penn and the C Foundation, as well as CNN which is all CIA'd up."

Great catch on his last tweet linking to the Rising Sun Blues (King Kong Remix) for the Hong Kong Parts Unknown. He stated "THIS song from the score from tonight's HONK KONG @PartsUnknownCNN is gonna stay with me." Recall that the 1964 song by The Animals is about the "House of the Rising Sun" in New Orleans, inferred to be the Horror House on St. Charles.

    Lyrics
"There is a house in New Orleans
    They call the rising sun
And its been the ruins of many a poor boy
And god I know I'm one"

Also, with regards to Hillary Clinton, Bourdain himself posted these tweets:

"know what Hillary Clinton is NOT? She's not stupid. Or unsophisticated about the world. The Weinstein stories had been out there for years"

Back in October of 2017, CNN’s Bourdain made that statement regarding Harvey Weinstein, suggesting Hillary Clinton had to know of his history of being a sexual predator. Bourdain’s girlfriend, actress Asia Argento, accused Weinstein of raping her.

The tweet angered Hillary spokesman, Brian Fallon. He took to Twitter to tell Bourdain to “eat a scorpion.”

Just last month, on May 2nd, Anthony Bourdain tweeted this:

"...and I am in no way an HRC fan. I've been on the receiving end of her operatives' wrath. And it ain't fun"

So infer away what you will about all of this...I don't know what to make of it. BUT...as far as suicides are concerned:

    Q"

Take a look at her ex Andy Spade's social media pics. Disturbing, pedo/Satanic symbolism. Something rotten in those circles.
